Location 3: In Tarzana, California on the corner of Ventura and Wilbur, in a busy strip mall. While they do have a few designated slots, parking can get difficult due to the small number of the spots. There is limited street parking as well. Venue 3: They have been around for 30 years since 1995! While most record stores folded in the 2000's along with the CD succumbing to streaming media, they have been hanging on to their niche clientele. The recent resurgence of vinyl has definitely helped them stay afloat. Typical mid-sized utility-minded store, much reminiscent of the many record stores in the 70s and 80s... kind of nostalgic :) Although this is not a small store, they seem to be very short on space, doubling up on storage by placing the record bins on the floor under the shelves that usually hold the records. These lower bins can be hard to reach and browse through, and are inconvenient. Merchandise and Pricing 3: New and Used Vinyl, CDs, cassettes, DVDs, Blu-ray, posters, t shirts and memorabilia, with emphasis on "used". Selection is not bad for a brick and mortar store, but the merchandise is not well organized or presented. I already mentioned the hard to reach record bins under the shelves. Also, the used vinyl records are mostly shut sealed but not rated or annotated (although a few were), so it is hard to know what you are paying for. The media should either be graded in detail like online sellers do using standard benchmarking language (most commonly the Goldmine Standard), or be left unsealed for buyers to inspect visually and/or play test before purchasing. I buy quite a lot of music online and noticed that their prices are on the higher side, especially given that the condition of the merchandise is unclear. Staff 4: I have had limited interaction with the staff but they seem friendly and helpful. The Last Word 3: For me, they are OK for the nostalgia and the social interaction and when you are looking for physical props like posters, apparel or cool-looking records to pin on your wall! But for serious music shopping and collecting I usually have better luck online.

Came here for record store day 2024 to check out some new possible vinyls. They have a ton of CD's and vinyls, they also have posters, collectibles and rare finds. I been coming here for years for CD's, now that vinyl's and CD's are gaining in popularity, it nice to have a local spot in the valley to go to. They have been around since 1995, started in Thousand Oaks. You can find some great deals here, but you can also find things that are pretty pricey, so tread lightly when trying to find the classics, rarities and just in general, don't want to drop a grip chasing down that vinyl you just have to have. As far as service, hard to say, typically don't need any help, but at least on record day, they kept the line moving quickly and were friendly, so I would say service is very good. Check them out, support local and grab some cool music. Enjoy!

It's like a mini Amoeba Records store located in Hollywood. They have nearly every CD and vinyl you could want, or at least most of them. The store is much larger than it appears when you first walk in, and I especially enjoyed the rock section, my favorite! They also have a great selection of DVDs and Blu-rays, often with excellent deals on most items. I even found several Iron Maiden albums. Now I don't need to make the trip to Amoeba in Hollywood for my music fix. I love it!

Terrible experience here over the weekend! They have…read moreconstruction in the area and plead with people on social media to come and shop. Then, they treat you poorly! It was a pain to get here, lots of construction causing Terrible traffic and delays since we don't leave on Westside. When we went to check the movie section a store employee was sweeping around customers in that area. My husband went to look at movies and he called him out, insulting him as "oblivious". The employee was too concerned about some in store concert, moved things around. But not about getting business from customers. Rude customer service! Well, that's why folks shop online. Who needs this crap? You go through difficulties to come and support a local record store and that's what you get. No respect! On top, not enough merchandise, poor selection. Dusty. We left what merchandise we were planning on getting and left. To never return! Stay away!

All in the study reported feeling better post exercise but those who listened to "The Four Seasons" said they felt even better; performed even better in cognitive testing. Well, that was enough for me to trade in my vinyl for the aforementioned piece in CD format so I could listen in my car (remember it was twenty years ago). I played "The Four Seasons" as I drove to and from work, wrote reports, did my taxes (similar studies show improved math skills in children), or simply relaxed and like those in the non-control group Ohio study, I felt better even recruited long forgotten vocabulary! Mere weeks ago that very same CD bit the dust; skipped over way too many movements. I washed it, talked to it but it was gone... Yeah, I know there's a myriad of more technologically advanced listening platforms but I'm old school. Enter Record Surplus (The Westside's Amoeba equivalent?) for replacement and much, much more. This place is HUGE! If you can't find disks, vinyl here perhaps it doesn't exist. Ah, but it does! Knowledgeable staff will help you find what you seek. Found Itzhak Perlman's performance of "The Four Seasons" and some Mozart. Recycle or trade your unwanted CDs and vinyl here. Parking on Santa Monica Boulevard.

What a great vintage record store tucked away in a strip mall between Torrance Tavern and Cost Plus…read moreWorld Market. There's a huge and decent selection of $5 and under vinyl in bins as soon as you walk in. I found several used albums to add to my collection and they were all in great condition. My 13 year old son also enjoyed perusing the records and kept bugging me to get him the Labyrinth soundtrack, Beastie Boys' "Licensed to Ill" and a Queen compilation but those were all more expensive and I'd just rather we select from the $5 and under bin. The owner was lively and helpful and there's definitely a lot to look at in there from records and CD's to posters, stickers and a collection of colored pens. If you're a record collector like I've recently become, you'll definitely want to stop on in at Dudley's. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I believe it's cash only if the total price is less than 10/20 dollars. I unfortunately forget which.

This store is exactly what I mean. I loved the open book in Northridge when it was on Tampa and still when it moved inside the mall. Was excited when this location opened. I am a sucker for old books and this place has ample with a really cool ambiance to it. Kinda like a nerdy library. I say that because they also have comics, collectibles and even have a section for banned books. As if you're buying something taboo. Staff is always friendly, place is organized so you know where to look, they always have some type of deal going on. So great value no matter what you buy. So if you're in the hunt for something to read, just skip Amazon for a change and support your local bookstore. Let's keep brick and mortar stores alive!

All books, to my knowledge and memory, were sorted alphabetically by author last name. Prices were shockingly reasonable! It became too easy to rack up the total price; six books for fifty dollars! Perhaps it is an issue alone to compare, but one would not be able to get as many books of this quality at similar prices in bookstores like Barnes & Noble. I am unsure if the total price was altered by the "buy one, get one half off" sale that was active the day I purchased from The Open Book. I approached two staff members to see if they had a specific book available; the book was not in stock, but both staff members were very easy to approach, friendly, and genuinely helpful! I would recommend anyone to bear with the parking and traffic to check this shop out!
