Found this place on the internet as part of our planning for a big tour of Monument Valley. This was the third night of a road trip and we soon realized that Bluff Utah is in the middle of nowhere. No big deal but due to the virus and the fact that it was the end of the season, there were no restaurants open, only the gas station which had a small kitchen and good pizza. But the lodge was the coolest, most unusual motel we've stayed at. It had all the usual amenities but if you look at the construction and walk around the grounds, you can tell that this isn't just any stop. The history of the place and all the interesting 'rustiques', hiking and biking had us pleased to no end. Hat's off to Jim Hook and his predecessor Gene Foushee.

I got two nights here and had a very pleasant experience. In the kindest sense, this is a rustic hotel. Are you expecting lots of frills like a hair dryer and coffee maker in the room, and a thousand channels on your TV, and a phone in the room? Then look elsewhere. What Recapture provides which is very fun is a open reading/rec room with binders and books and materials on the area for you to study and possibly borrow while you explore the Bluff region. Topographic maps and clippings from articles and so much more. If you're here to see birds, hike, 4x4, ride the river, or learn the history of Bluff, there is much to obtain here (and there is a piano too!). My room had a comfy bed, hot shower (wonderful shower), and complimentary organic soaps. There is a sitting desk with chairs and a TV that provides some basic stuff, including a couple of movie channels, but really, who is here to watch TV? The floor squeaks a bit so I was worried about the people below me (if I'm below, will I mind them walking above?). There's seating outside so you can chill on the deck and get to know the people staying next to you, who could be very friendly and like-minded adventurers. There is a nice walk to the river, and a pool and jacuzzi (seasonal) and outdoor grilling and a play area for kids. In the morning they serve a basic simple breakfast that is carb heavy, lots of breads and bagels, from about 6 to maybe 11, and there's tea and coffee. The front desk is friendly and helpful and eager to chat. Call in advance. If you're here to explore Bluff, you should consider Recapture.

We love the individual cabins and when traveling with family the larger cabins are perfect! If you are lucky enough to stay while their restaurant Duke's is open I highly recommend eating there for dinner. The breakfast is better than any I have ever had and the staff are all friendly and always helpful! I promise you cannot go wrong when staying here.

I recommend better pillows though, we had like a million pillows on the bed but they were all small and thin. I would say hit the chair with a green machine because it seems stained, as well as the lamp shade was stained too. We had a toy roll under the drawers and it def needs a good vacuuming as it has other items under there too that we're not from us. It would be nice to have a little night light in the room as it's pitch black, we stayed with our toddler and had to keep a lamp on at night to see anything. Continental breakfast is decent, I'd like to have seen Apple juice since OJ is super sugary for kids. The WiFi is awesome! The TV channels are super basic so I'd recommend maybe install streaming Apps for guests. The staff is super nice and they all seem to like being there. Would def stay here again when visiting family again.

5 stars for the views- 5 stars for my furry friend and everything else was mediocre…read more Goulding's Lodge is a beautiful property with stunning views--waking up to the scenery from our balcony was definitely a highlight of our stay. The location alone makes this place special. That said, the accommodations themselves were not very impressive. The rooms feel very outdated, and the floors are quite dainty. There's also no microwave in the room, which would have been convenient. On a positive note, the side wall insulation was surprisingly good--we couldn't hear a newborn, two young kids, or their parents next door at all but upper floors were paper thin we could hear people walking and slamming balcony door. One unexpected highlight of our stay was a white, fluffy dog that kept coming outside our balcony. I completely fell in love with my furry visitor. When I asked the receptionist, I was told the dog has an owner praying she was right and it was not a stray which was reassuring I think :( --but the night before checkout, it rained heavily, and I couldn't help but worry about my little friend. Thankfully, the next morning when I opened the curtains, the dog was there waiting, as if to say goodbye. That moment truly warmed my heart and wished I could take her home. I hope to see her soon. We also had the best view from our balcony to watch fireworks to welcome the New Year! Overall, we had a great experience because of the views, location, and peaceful atmosphere. However, if management were to reconsider remodeling and updating the rooms, this place could easily be 100% better and match the beauty of its surroundings. The girls in the office are so nice and pleasant! We would stay here again, maybe stay in a cabin next time.

The bathroom didn't have a fan. The walls were thin and you can hear people walking upstairs. Our upstairs neighbors didn't stop walking until after midnight. Worst night at a hotel. The patio is nice with great views. I wish this facility had a complimentary coffee and hot water like other hotels. I would have given them a 5 even after my terrible night.
