He asked for payments before they were due bc he "ran out of money". We are no left with a cracked shower that was installed damaged, walls that required a 2nd coat (which he left the paint for us to finish ourselves), all white trim that has grey on them from painting the wall after trim was installed, doors that are too big and rub the ceiling, and worst of all sub standard flooring from his father's company (BG Carpet and Flooring) that is lifted at every seam that he agreed to replace then stopped responding to our texts and answering our calls. His workers complained the whole time about him not paying them and his electrician called us looking for money as he failed to pay him as well. By far the absolute worst, unprofessional experience we have ever had. Now we have to spend even more time taking this guy to court. He was able to keep our vision in mind while providing these suggestions which helped produce a better overall approach and outcome to the project. He served as the general contractor for the project and used hand-picked companies that he has worked with for years. He does this to ensure he knows what quality he will be getting out of who he works with and understands their work reflects upon him and his standards. One of the things I really liked about working with Dave is he was onsite throughout most of the work. In fact, Dave and one other staff did the majority of the work. He told us during the interview that he would be doing most of the work. I was glad to see this was the case. To kick off the project, Dave stepped through each phase, to include costs. The contract was specific and detailed. He understood the contract protected both him and us and was meant to keep everyone on the same page for expectations and the work to be done. We have come across plenty of people in the past 12 years that felt contracts were not needed or evil, to then use this fuzziness to get out of doing work or asking for extra money. Dave worked with us on any changes we requested as well as needing to adjust due to unplanned circumstances. He was very easy to work with and very fair when it came to the extra or unplanned work. The final outcome was a fantastic living space plus garage that we are very pleased with.
