Got the chance to eat there on Christmas Day... beautiful place. Beautiful evening views. Very attentive staff. our server was very nice and gave us right recommendations. Quite large serving of food. And the taste was really good too.

We stopped into the bar for some drinks and dessert. The environment was amazing! Friendly service and amazing drinks!! The cheesecake was also delicious. Enjoyed learning about the history of this lodge!

Disappointing experience. Placed two pick up orders during my week stay. The first time, they were out of both sides I requested so I just went with a side salad which was ok. The second time, they struggled to take my order and get it correct. I placed a simple order of a salad with an add on of grilled chicken and a drink. The chicken was the smallest, blandest, and saddest piece of chicken. For a whopping total of $20 plus bucks. I rarely call to complain, but I did this time. When I called they acted like they could care less and that they could not be bothered. Will not be back. There are much better choices for food in the area .

We stayed at Deerhead Campground and the lodge is just a couple miles up the road. We were seated promptly and our waitress brought ice water in a carafe. Why don't all restaurants do this? My husband I both ordered side salads and split a cheeseburger. The food was wonderful, our waitress checked on us several times and the ambience was delightfully historic.

This is our favorite special occasion restaurant! We ate here every night on our honeymoon and again tonight for my husband's birthday! The food is spectacular and the ambiance is incredible. They have the best views of Cloudcroft and fantastic staff! We adore the sweet potato and jalapeño bisque. It's a MUST! My husband was still stuffed from lunch so he had a green salad with grilled chicken and the house dressing and loved it. I skipped lunch so I had the Keto friendly 12oz ribeye with double veggies (asparagus - yum!) and it melted in my mouth! They always start the meal with homemade bread and herb butter. It's heavenly! It was my husband's birthday so they gave him a complimentary slice of cake with a candle in it. He went with the lemon cake with white chocolate frosting and it was amazing!

Rib Eye - perfectly prepared.

However, it was a goal to check out the lodge so that I could attest to others on its history. Emily at the front desk was so nice as well as the manager. They allowed me to walk the hotel, have coffee and cookies, take in the historic site and relax. I asked could I see one of the rooms since online the pictures were great and they have kept the original look and feel. the manager said he had step better than a standard room. He handed me a key to look at the Governors suite (see video). I returned the next day after hiking to have lunch and peruse the gift shop. Prices are a little higher, however the food is pretty amazing. I split a burger and chips. Food is great in the bar area. Dinning opens in evening but requires reservations. Pets are allowed for Small fee There is a golf course across the parking lot. Majestic views and well kept greens. don't be surprised but if you find yourself golfing around the deer, elk or wild horses. If you're lucky, you may see snow which makes all that much more beautiful. There is rich history of the lodge hanging in the walls and in areas to read upon. This used to be timber country and the original lodge burned down years and years and years ago. While at the Lodge check out Cloudcroft museum to take in all the history that included the Lodge, baby sanatorium and 1st Calvary visits, where it all started this beautifully small town.

I travel a lot and have been to some amazing resorts and hotels, but I can honestly say that my…read morestay at the Cloudcroft Mountain Park Hostel was one of my favorites! This hostel offers a unique and authentic experience for this region and encourages you to get outside, explore, and connect with yourself and nature! And if you're traveling here, that's EXACTLY what you need to do. First off - Stephanie is a gracious host and makes you feel right at home :) Her positive energy makes her highly approachable and that same energy permeates the hostel. She makes herself available to her guests but also gives you space if you're looking for solitude. The rooms are simple but have everything you need. I stayed in a private room with a comfortable queen-sized mattress. It gets pretty cold at night but the heater inside the room made it warm and cozy! The rooms have two access points. One door leads outside to the deck, where you have chairs and a stunning view of the mountains. A second door leads into the shared areas - a full kitchen with cookware to make your own meals, a comfortable living room with plenty of books and a TV (with Netflix) if you absolutely need it, and bathrooms with showers and a few complimentary toiletries. Everything is very clean and well-taken care of and it was fun getting to know the other guests! We had a campfire on Saturday night (a weekly ritual, I believe - weather permitting) and cooked some delicious food on a grill. You can't beat a campfire dinner, complete with s'mores, underneath the stars. Some locals even came by and shared their knowledge and stories about the area! Because it's elk mating season, the males could be heard bugling for a mate at night. If you're really lucky, you might even see some elk wandering around the property! A herd of females showed up one night while I was there - right outside of my room, in fact! But because it was 3:30 a.m. and I'm a heavy sleeper, I had to settle for security camera footage the next day, haha! That's important to note, too. The property has security cameras and plenty of lights so I felt extremely safe the entire week I was there. Stephanie lives upstairs and has two dogs (and a cat!) that will alert you of any strangers (and wildlife). The dogs are really friendly - and smart! They don't seem to bark once they recognize you! What else can I say about this GEM in the mountains... the location is perfect and easy to get to. There's SO much to do here, you'll forget all about any TV or technology addiction you may have had at home (there IS free Wi-Fi if you need it, though). The village of Cloudcroft is only 10 minutes up the mountain, Mountain Park and High Rolls are 5 minutes down the mountain, and Alamogordo is 15-20 minutes away and at the bottom of the mountain. There are plenty of unique shops and cafes to check out, as well as bigger chains to fulfill more extensive needs (those are in Alamogordo). And let's not forget White Sands National Monument, which is about 30 minutes away. White Sands is absolutely breathtaking and Stephanie even has snow saucers you can borrow, to go sand sledding on the dunes! If it's hiking you're looking for, you've got countless options throughout the Lincoln National Forest. You can even hike up into the mountains behind the hostel. I could probably go on forever about this place but at some point, you're going to stop reading this review because I rambled on for far too long. If you're still with me, thank you for indulging my love affair with the Cloudcroft Mountain Park Hostel :) Honestly, I was sad to leave and I absolutely cannot wait to return. I've never seen skies so blue, sunsets with such vivid shades of pink and orange, and mountain backdrops so perfect they almost don't look real. There's magic in the air that makes you grateful to be alive. And if you're willing to slow down and enjoy each moment as they come, you'll experience more peace, beauty, and connection than you ever thought possible.

Stephanie does a great job making us feel welcome and at the same time, running a tight ship so that the place is both comfortable and secure. The area around the hostel is beautiful. There were elk grazing right across the street. So many hiking trails. Everything you need to cook your meals. Highly recommend!

Outside looks a little shabby kind quirky but the inside is better. Close to the little square of eateries and businesses. Food/breakfast bar: They offer pre package to go style breakfast and pastry snacks which was an added bonuses as we had kids with us. Coffee Keurig machine, milk cereal fruit. etc. It's in a little communal space in the middle of the hallway so I feel kinda bad for anyones room that is right next to that. Cons: walls are thin so you hear just about everything especially your neighbors tromping up and down the stairs and talking through the hallways. Probably because it's an older property. The garbage truck pick up at 7am on Thursday morning was pretty disturbing- woke everyone up out of a dead sleep. The staff not friendly or warm at all, in fact they looked mad to be there having to clean up rooms. I smiled at one blonde lady as i was coming back from the communal coffee area and she just gave me a dirty look. I said hi the bigger fella taking out trash and he was just kinda abrupt. I was like geesh are these the owners?? Anyhoo, if we ever get to go back probably won't stay here. Maybe check out some other places. Cloudcroft is a Cute mountain town if your on a road trip or going to the White Sands Nat Park. Pretty scenic drive up and down both sides.

Prices are crazy high too. My son was injured at the end of the day and we had to take him to the local ER. Needless to say, we were not able to return the equipment rentals but were assured by the medic at the ski resort that he would take it back for us. Shame on me for trusting him because he returned it three days later. All the while, the owner of ski palace then called and threatened to send me to court for the three days the equipment was not turned in if I didn't pay him $40 for the time he lost on renting the equipment. I understand that this is his livelihood, but when I stated that I wanted to contact the ski resort (before I agreed to pay the $40) just to find out why it wasn't turned in on time, he became irate and told me if I contacted the ski resort about this then I could forget about paying him $40 and he would charge me $140 instead. What the heck?? We ended up paying him $40, never heard back from anyone at the ski resort and the ski palace also ran my debit card without my authorization for an additional $8. My family and I will never do business with the ski palace or ski Cloudcroft again. In my opinion, it's a crooked business they are running and I'd rather go where the customer is appreciated and not treated like they're a dime a dozen.
