Very cool public park on OU's campus. To begin, it is large. It has a large wooden play area for kids, several picnic/covered areas, baseball fields, basketball courts, volleyball, and greenbelts to walk/jog through. It's so large that the Medieval Fair had to be moved to Reaves when it outgrew the duck pond. It's also home to Norman's annual 4th of July fireworks display. There is some parking, but it's not great. It basically surrounds the park. But, Lloyd Noble is very close, so if you do have to park there the walk isn't brutal.
My son loved the castle play area thing. It's really large and very cool, and can accommodate a lot of kids at once. Additionally, the park is home to several older trees which provide much needed shade in the summer months. Also, the park just looks nice, it looks like a park rather than a random jungle gym stuck in the middle of a piece of land.
The picnic stations are pretty basic, they're just tables in a covered area. You can rent them for a reasonable rate by calling the city. We've been to kids' birthday parties here and it's a good spot. I would bring trash sacks to haul your garbage away. There aren't many trash cans, and they can fill up quickly.
The main reason I don't give Reaves 5 stars is the restrooms and trash can situation. The trash cans, at least in my experience, don't seem to be emptied enough, particularly on weekends. Hence my recommendation to just take your own trash away. The restrooms (which the website says are only open April through October) are atrocious. I get that it's a park, but these were really bad. Worse than many highway rest stops I've seen. And, given how many kids use them, I wish the city would clean them out more frequently. Or, spray them down with a firehose. Or, bulldoze them and start over.
All in all, a large park with a ton to do for kids. Certainly one of the better park options in Norman. read more
