An apartment complex was "unable to approve" my lease application at this time based off erroneous information in a RealPage consumer report. Apparently they have up to 30 days to correct this, which is too damn long. Any amount of time is too long, so this review will stand even if it only takes 30 minutes. Oh, and I just want to add, I am a disabled veteran trying to restart my life after being medically retired from the Navy. I just moved to a new town, and now I face this major stumbling block because RealPage apparently can't accurately report consumer information. read more

Not ideal for anyone without credit. I am a college student in a predominantly student-rented apartment. My roommates and I were all accepted, but I am left unable to make any payments on my rent due to RealPage's software being "unable to verify my identity". After spending an hour or so talking to a customer service agent, I learned that there's essentially nothing I can do because the database "which is JUST credit scores" cannot find satisfactory information as I have not established a credit score yet (I am a college student). The advice I was given was "call the credit bureau". I am left feeling incredibly overwhelmed, as I have successfully paid rent and utilities for years, but those things are not reported on credit. I have been in contact with my leasing agent as well and she has expressed frustration as this is a fairly common occurrence for the building. Even Electricity companies have a fee for those without credit, I just don't understand. EDIT: wish it was a happy one but no. All the help they've offered has been 3 emails asking for the same information and nothing else. No word from the leasing agent either, probably having a similar experience. read more

I am currently trying to get an apartment. The leasing company uses realpage for their determination on approving/denying apartments. I was called and told by the complex that "something popped up" on my report and to call RealPage. Well of course, they were closed and you have the option to email. Problem is, I have 48 hours to decide if I would like to withdrawal my application (and save $200). I have had no felonies, never been evicted, and my credit is not terrible. I have no idea what would have come up on this report. I hope to provide a change in this review, but as of right now, this company is putting a hold on moving forward with my life and has completely disappointed me and any hopes that I had of having a place to call home. read more

This service is absolutely terrible. I got denied for a rental property because of a false background check. My husband & I have never been denied from a place EVER. When we disputed it they denied us. I am a preschool teacher and I have to get fingerprinted by the state of Illinois for my job, yet they're denying me for a 2k a month apartment. Unbelievable. read more

I received an inaccurate rental report that showed a criminal background and listed incorrect bank information. I've been emailing and calling to get more information about the timelines for disputes, how they pulled this wrong data quickly and received no updates from their staff. I'm really sad this company pulled a false report about me which is causing a delay to receive my first apartment for work purposes. ): read more

this place is ruining people's lives. Today I was denied my dream apartment due to "Rental history unsatisfactory or insufficient" I've lived at my current apt for 6 years and my prior 5 years without any evictions. Also, it seems they use Equifax instead of the other credit bureaus which is horrible. Not fair for people trying to move and live a better life. read more

I was recently denied on a recent application through RealPage. RealPage extracted an eviction mark on my record from several years back that has never showed on any credit report nor was I aware of. In light of this finding and wanting to clear this item immediately from the screening/record, I escalated matters through the local housing courts. The matter was recently cleared through the appropriate channel and I had submitted the court document provided by the clerks office clearing the said eviction to RealPage and I'm still waiting on the mark to be cleared through RealPage. I have made several attempts to call and obtain a status, but they continue to provide the same response that "it's being reviewed" despite providing a legal court document outlining the matter is resolved. @Paige S read more

I applied for an apartment and my screening came back showing that I owe an apartment complex but the amount is completely wrong and because of that, they won't accept my proof of payment. It's not wrong on the credit report side. It's wrong in real page's side. This is frustrating. Me and my family is homeless and now I have to wait for them to dispute it with the credit bureau which can take 30 days. read more

I'm so frustrated. This company denied me for an apartment after paying $200 non refundable fee for something supposedly from 2018, with no info. In addition, they said my Equifax score was 506, which is actually 575, not the best but close to 600. I'm so pissed right now. No property info provided. Then that said my income to rent ratio is off. I make $20 an hour, I'm sure I can afford $1200 a month. Like why? read more

Got denied an apartment because this company reported a class D traffic violation (same class as a speeding ticket for 10mph over limit) as a criminal offense. Now I've lost money, a place to live, and have extra hoops to jump through to prove I'm not a criminal. This company should not be allowed to exist. read more

Just like every other review on here. I applied for an apartment and was denied because of a "criminal" reason. No one would tell me what the findings were but I'm able to request the disclosure that will take an unknown amount of time. I filed a dispute right away and called them directly and again was given no advise or help. I've never been arrested in my entire life. I'm completely surprised by this. Why are these companies using this place when everyone is running into similar situations?!? This place is a massive joke. I have a deadline to move and there is only one apartment left.. this is ridiculous that I'm dealing with this. Leasing desk is a joke. If my apartment gets rented before I'm able to I'm more than happy to contact a lawyer for this negligence. My husband is deployed in the military and I'm left here alone trying to figure this out. Not ok. read more

I am relocating and was just advised my application was denied due to fraud alert. I do not have a fraud alert on my account. I have lived in 2 apartments my whole life! So here I am 5 months pregnant with a 8 year old in a different city with nowhere to go! What a fucking joke! read more

I applied for an apartment who uses this company 3 weeks ago and was approved, we ended up going with a different place and they also use leasing desk. This time my application was denied. It showed up i owed an old apartment money from furniture left behind by my then roommate. i paid the balance in full (this was also my first time hearing about it) and submitted my dispute. We HAVE to move out of our current place in 3 weeks and the apartment we applied for move in is in two weeks. No one can give me a time frame and just keep talking in circles. I showed proof from the collection agency that it has been paid in full. We cant wait around for them to investigate we have to know if we will be homeless or not in 2 weeks. Super frustrating read more

I applied for a new lease at a new apartment. After running a background check I was informed that there was a *criminal* charge in my history. After further investigation (with no help from RealPage) it turns out to be a red-light violation that was dismissed 3 months prior. I am now having to delay my move-in-date because it takes RealPage all of 5 business days to do the investigating that took me 10 minutes to find. The fact that there is zero distinction between a red-light violation and committing a heinous crime is ridiculous. read more

The company ran my husbands background check for an apartment and it came back with false charges. The apartment complex denied our application. We called the police department to report the inaccuracy on his report and they suggested we run our own criminal background report on the Texas DPS website. Not to our surprise, nothing came back after we performed a statewide criminal background search. We have a copy of this document. my husband also recently accepted a contract position in which they performed a background check literally last month! We talked to the leasing consultant and manager and they informed us that they could not provide us with the copy of the criminal background report they allege includes a felony charge that does not belong to my husband. we were given the real page 1-800 number and submitted a dispute. they stated that I had to wait 5 days before hearing back on my dispute, which will likely cause us to lose the apartment. Reading through the reviews and we are completely astonished read more

Paige contacted me and the next day my application was approved. Updating review to 3 stars because I was still out a lot of extra money in hotel/storage fees due to the unexpected delay. I never received a reason for why it took 10 days but am glad it was finally resolved. Thank you Paige for helping with this. read more

My husband and I are currently in the process of applying for an apartment. We make well over 3x the rent. We have excellent rental history, great credit, and no criminal history whatsoever! Yet my husband was asked to provide additional information because of a mixup between someone with the same first and last name and date of birth. The other guy has a criminal record, but my husband does not and is currently in the military and has been for the past 20 years! Apartments are hardly available for next month, and it would be extremely inconvenient if we have to find something else at a later time! I think it's ridiculous that Realpage only uses names and dates of birth to identify people! Why not social security numbers?! With the poor business practices of this company, I am sure people with common names like my husband run into this issue often! This asinine approach to identifying people during background checks has caused a setback for my family! After my husband provided additional information, Realpage states that they will provide a response to a consumer request in 5 days! Realpage is a real pain!!! Update: Paige reached out immediately and provided prompt assistance. Within 24 hours, the issue with the inaccurate records pull was resolved. Realpage quickly identified the discrepancy and removed the other guy's information from my husband's. I really appreciate Paige's help, but I really hope this does not happen to someone else. read more

So I have reached out multiple times asking real page to please update the screening. I disputed all the inaccuracies and all they can tell me is that the leasing company ultimately makes the final decision. I just wish real page would fix the issue instead of saying well even though its showing failed, or we've emailed the resolved dispute, or have them contact us for any further questions. I just wish someone would go in there and fix the problem of my failed screening so if incase another apartment uses real page I won't have this issue ever again. someone help! read more

I have no criminal background or history whatsoever and I am denied an apartment for a "criminal history". I am outraged and unable to move to my apartment until I dispute that I literally have no criminal background but that is taking 3-5 days, but I am supposed to move to my apartment in 2 days. The apartment is unable to help me speed up the process and I am now about to lose $500 cause of a false report. I had another background check done and I have absolutely history to report and showed that to my apartment but they are unable to do anything until this company disputes the false information. Overall I would give this company negative stars. I would still like my dispute to be process from the false information so I can move to my apartment??? read more

I applied for a new apartment and was denied because of "criminal" coming up on my background check. Mind you, I am in the same property that uses this exact same company to do background checks but for some reason this came up on my newest apartment rental. The "criminal" record they are reporting is a traffic violation. Nothing criminal whatsoever. I need help asap so I can move in to the new apartment. But this is crazy and doesn't make any sense as to why they have denied me. read more

Backstory; I was denied the apartment due to my criminal history, which does not exist, so I requested a copy of my consumer report. After being told my report would arrive in 5 days, it finally arrived in 6 days, after constantly calling to expedite the process, as I relocated from another state for work and needed a place to live. During these 5 days I was asked to submit a photo ID, so they can ensure they have the correct background information for the correct person. I received my report and the criminal history is for a 5'9, 336lb, African American Male; mind you I submitted my drives license that shows I am a 5'8, 120lb, Caucasian male. I cant do anything but laugh at how angry I am. I call the support desk for the 8th time to let them know they have it completely wrong; well that was no help because they asked me to submit a dispute form to have it removed which could take an undetermined time to remove. I am following up with the apartment community today to let them know how awful of a service Leasing Desk has provided and the defamation of character this has been to me, not to mention releasing someone else's criminal history to someone else without them knowing. read more

Literally, the system and algorithm is horrible for individuals like myself that has no credit established!! If Ive never had anything to report on my credit I cant even submit an application online because the system is "unable to Verify". I have verifiable income, as well as renter history but none of that matters according to the computer. Almost every apartment I've tried to apply for uses RealPage software and there is no way to even apply and pay for fees because I can't be verified. very inconvenient And I've missed out on potential residency due to this. I NEVER make reviews but after seeing this being a common issue amongst other things I thought I'd just share my input. read more

Company reported inaccurate information to the out of state apartment complex I applied to. I got denied based upon the false info they reported and now I have no guaranteed housing. I MUST be out of my current apartment in two weeks and the info they reported will likely stop me from getting any apartment. Not to mention I already set up my business to move to this new state in two weeks. This is holding me back and I am upset about it. I don't know if it will be resolved by my move out date, this has costed me lots of unnecessary stress, money & time. read more

We are a military family, and need to move. Put in an application with a large property company that uses this service. The report I received included a derogatory rental account for an apartment complex we lived in 7 years ago. It states we paid late once, and didn't provide proper notice upon move-out, none of which is true. This complex is pretty run-down, and we have no paper trail to provide evidence to dispute, and it may cost us and our 2 small children our home. If this isn't resolved in the next few days my kids and I will be homeless while my spouse is deployed. I'm livid! read more

If I could give a lower rating I would. I have documented identity theft and despite having all documentation and being noted on my credit report I was denied renting an apartment. My domestic partner has an 810 credit score and we make over 100K a year. Yet nobody can tell me why I was denied or help me remedy the situation. Don't ever do business with this company and if they are doing a screening for your tenancy, good luck. read more

UPDATE: After posting my review, a representative contacted me within 2 hours and talked me through what had happened with the situation. She was calm, courteous and thorough in her explanation, taking time to answer my questions and recommend actions. In the end, everything was fine and we were able to sign our lease the same day. It seems like that company needs to streamline and clear up their processes and communication steps, because according to the representative, the reason I got "denied" was because of an issue on the apartment's end and not on RealPage's end, and that according to RealPage, I had actually "passed" their clearance check (even though the letter said that I didn't). She suggested that I call the leasing department to clear it up with them and the leasing agent told me that all was fine on their end as well and that this "flag" often comes up for their prospective tenants and not to worry about it. Like I said, there must be a better way to complete this leasing process as it seems that many people are getting caught in this "red flag" loophole, resulting in RealPage getting all of the brunt of the "bad reviews" even though, according to them, these prospective tenants are actually "cleared." read more

Like a lot of the other people say in reviews, I was looking to lease an apartment and was denied due to a "previous eviction" on my boyfriend's credit check. After talking with the leasing agent at the apartment complex, we were directed to RealPage/LeasingDesk to file a dispute with them. When I then went to follow up with the number listed on their site, I found myself in a revolving door of "call this number, now go to this place on our website and contact us that way" but there is no link to go to to actually contact them. I've called several different numbers, tried to talk to several people, and no one has been able to help with the dispute at all and I run the risk of losing out on leasing an apartment because of a fraudulent charge. read more

I applied for an apartment with good credit, no criminal and good rental history so I assumed I shouldn't have an issue then I get a call stating I'm denied due to a criminal charge which I don't have. This company is a joke and you property management companies that make us sign up with them should be ashamed of yourself for making your contractors go through their BS. I run a small waterproofing & decking company here in Orange County, CA. One corporate property manager uses these people to "make sure our insurance and other paper work is in 'compliance'". UPDATE: Despite experiencing a hiccup in my screening process as many others have, the Consumer Relations team helped resolve this within a day. Paige reached out directly via private message and I was immediately contacted by Ashley from the consumer relations team to sort all of it out! I, like the many other people here, have been wrongfully denied based on an INCORRECT criminal record for my boyfriend. How can a screening company base their findings on just a birthday and name, and not a social security number? Called customer service, and basically had no help delivered. And now I'm in the middle of disputing the results because I've already paid my application fee to the property I am looking to lease. PLEASE Paige S. help me ASAP. We are being wrongfully denied on data that is incorrect. We have never been denied for an apartment, have excellent credit, no evictions, make enough income, and certainly do NOT have a criminal record. This company is a scam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I am not one to write reviews, but my experience with Realpage really upset me. I applied for an apartment two months ago and was denied due to "unsatisfactory criminal history". I was confused and worried because the only tickets I have gotten were parking tickets, which were paid off right away. Even after several calls to the apartment complex and Realpage no one could tell me what violation I had made. I had started to worry that my identity had been stolen. Three weeks later I was told that my criminal history came from a county that I had never been to or heard of. I called the court in that county and was told they had no records with my personal information. I submitted a Dispute form, but it took them a little over a month to provide me with the results stating that the records they had pulled weren't my records and that I am cleared. Not only did I spend countless hours trying to figure out why I was being accused of being a criminal, but also spent over $400 on the apartment applications and getting any records that I could get a hold of. Realpage caused unnecessary stress and cost time, money, and a housing opportunity. I strongly recommend apartments to not go with Realpage when dealing with background checks. A recommendation to Realpage: Start hiring employees that won't half-ass their jobs or find a better way to do things. If you're looking into an apartment that works with Realpage I would highly recommend to not waste your time with them. read more

Paige S. Help Please!!!!!! I am so frustrated right now!!! I completed a rental application on Friday, May 19th at a great complex and paid my deposit. Afterwards I simply went back to my condo to await my approval. I have never had a rental application denied. To my surprise the complex calls to tell me that LeasingDesk recommended that they denied the application due to judgement against me. I was floored. I knew I didn't have any judgements against me but still called all 3 credit reporting agencies and searched for county court records in call the areas I have lived. All the records were clean. I even called LexisNexis which "powers" most backgrounds check to do a search. They were very helpful and told me that they also see nothing in my record. I provided all this information to LeasingDesk in hopes of getting this negative information that couldn't be found by Experian, Equifax, TransUnion, 5 county courts or LexisNexis removed. Instead they rushed me off the phone. They said it was up to the rental complex and they have nothing to do with the rental application decision. In fact, if a rental application is denied because of information in a tenant's screening report, you are entitled to a copy of the report. You also have the right to dispute the report if it has errors or includes information it shouldn't. If you dispute a report, the tenant screening company must investigate and correct any errors within 30 days. There was NO investigation before I was rushed off the phone!!!! With a simple Google search I found that LeasingDesk has done this to plenty of applicants and has violated the Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). In many cases they failed to follow reasonable procedures to ensure the maximum accuracy possible of the report as the FCRA requires. They won't even check to make sure they are reviewing the right person. Their outright dismissal of all my request to investigate the errors on my report, shows me that they don't care about accurate reports. They want to do the least amount of work and still collect their fees. read more
