We were stumped about finding another school for her, and traditional public style wasn't sitting right with us for many reasons. Then I started seeing posts on Facebook about Kidwings, and their summer camps looked so fun, easy to sign up for, so we gave a few weeks a try. Turns out my 4yr old loved them, and we enrolled her in the 25/26 school year without hesitation. She picks wild flowers everywhere she goes, and tells me about the different plants she's learned at school. Yes, we live in beautiful San Diego- there's many outside activities available, and good weather almost all the time, however I still don't think most children these days are getting adequate time in nature, especially with all of the smart phone/tech that's at their fingertips. Outdoor time for my kids is essential to me. Finding this resource for my daughter- to learn while playing outside is the biggest blessing. I can't imagine a better start for a child than one spent learning and playing in nature. KidWings has been such an amazing experience for her. She has always been on the more cautious side, and having the opportunity to spend hours outside, go on nature walks, and play at different parks and playgrounds has helped her gain so much confidence in her body and what she's capable of. I couldn't have asked for better teachers than those at KidWings. They are the sweetest, most loving people. My daughter was home with me for her first three years, so dropping her off to start KidWings was especially hard for me. But I quickly realized that these kids are in such great hands, and I always felt completely comfortable leaving her there. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about each of her teachers--Ms. Claudia, Ms. Daniela, Ms. Mar, Ms. Emmy, Ms. Adriana (as well as the subs and camp instructors), and especially Ms. Ursula, who has been Annika's primary lead teacher since she started two years ago. Our family has also loved the special events KidWings hosts, like the lantern walk, potlucks, and drum circle. Sandra, the founder, has done such an amazing job creating this special community for kids and their families, and we're so grateful to have been a part of it. We just finished two wonderful years at KidWings and are moving on to our local kindergarten. My wife is struggling in college physics and had a Zoom session today that should have been a simple slam dunk for a Physics Tutor. We sent homework in advance, including my wife's attempts to work through the homework so he could see their thinking. He wasted half the session fiddling with equipment, did not talk through even one of the problems, got confused about what number they were on when he asked my wife to talk through their thinking on a problem, went on strange tangent, and effectively did no physics tutoring. He also sounded odd and we won't speculate on why but he didn't seem like he was fully present. I was very hopeful about this, but will have to look for another tutor.

I've come back after many years to leave this review. For context, I was briefly a student here…read moreback in 2009. You'll understand in a moment why I waited so long to write this. I took SAT tutoring here, back when the SAT had three sections and was scored out of 2400. I ended up with a 2040 -- which at the time was the ~94th percentile. I scored a 730 on the Writing section, which was the ~99th percentile for men back then. So why the bad review? I ended up dropping out and self-studying halfway through because I was treated in an extremely condescending and arrogant way by Vincent Perry. At first, I had a wonderful tutor who handled my English and Writing sections -- she was kind, patient, and professional. When she left, I was told I was "lucky" to be upgraded to a "master tutor," Vincent, at no extra charge. For context, they were charging $50 an hour at the time but paying tutors only $15 an hour. I know this because several UCSD students I knew worked there and confirmed it. Vincent started an argument with me during our very first essay review after I used the phrase "due to." He claimed it was grammatically incorrect because it supposedly referred to being "due" like a deadline rather than "as a result of." When I politely disagreed, he told me I was being argumentative. I can assure you, I was polite and articulate -- he simply didn't like being challenged. So I dropped out and finished my prep on my own. About a year later, when I was in college, I applied for a position there. Vincent sent me an unprofessional rant accusing me of being a terrible student with poor work ethic -- completely out of nowhere, and long after I'd left. Without his help, I still achieved an excellent SAT score and couldn't justify asking my parents to keep paying for those lessons. I went on to graduate from UCSB, a Tier 1 research university, taught math and computer science for six years, and later worked at Microsoft and several tech startups as a senior sales executive. I can't attribute even a fraction of that success to this place. From what I remember, the lessons mostly consisted of buying a review book, being assigned problems, and then going over those problems in class. You can buy the same books yourself for under $100 and save the trouble of being mistreated. Even though this happened many years ago, I doubt much has changed. Remember that students don't forget experiences like this -- treat them with respect and listen to them. Your students are your customers.
