She came highly recommended by a family member, and although we were on a waitlist for a while, it was absolutely worth it. Over the course of about 9 months, Therese worked with my son and made an incredible difference. She was patient, knowledgeable, and truly understood how to support him in a way that built both his skills and his confidence. By the end of our time with her, he had not only improved tremendously but was reading at his grade level. I can't thank Therese enough for the impact she's had on my son's learning journey. Highly recommend Learning Convergence to any family needing reading support!

** FROM STRUGGLE TO HONOR ROLL THANKS TO THERESE **…read more We turned to Therese FitzRandolph after our son finished sixth grade. At the time, it was clear he was struggling with reading comprehension and test-taking. Therese met with us in person and completed a detailed assessment. For the first time, we had a clear picture of what he needed and how he learned. They met twice a week for 50-minute sessions throughout the next school year. Therese used storytelling, repetition, and verbal cues within a structured approach that gave him tools to follow a narrative, retain detail, and speak with clarity. Their final project was the recitation of a five-paragraph story. She read it aloud once. He took notes, reconstructed it in writing, and repeated the full story back to her word for word. This was not a monologue he had practiced for weeks. It was a cold read, a memory exercise, and a comprehension challenge all at once. He accomplished it through steady work and patient, consistent guidance. As the year unfolded, his confidence grew. His reading improved, and his understanding deepened across subjects. His test scores now place him above grade level. Our son earns honor roll grades, thinks through material carefully, asks questions, and speaks with insight. While many students focus on test prep and recall, he learned to engage in real analysis and deeper comprehension of the material. Therese helped our son step into his own mind. Her approach met him where he was and made space for his strengths to emerge. He enters high school with a stronger foundation, a clearer voice, and the belief that he can succeed. We are deeply grateful.

There was a lot of reading (3 text books) to prepare for quizzes and since it was strictly by reading the material I had no classmates or instructor to answer any questions. If I had to look up a term in the book I had to be sure I had the term right. Also , it was very difficult to retain the information, since, as yet, I had no experience as a real estate agent. It was like reading a text book to be a brain surgeon. First Tuesday is affordable but it would have be helpful to have a Zoom meeting from time to time to get clarifying answers. However, with EP Real Estate School you get all the study materials on line and can easily search a term. The areas of discipline for a real estate agent are broken down by subjects so its easy to navigate and retain. The quizzes after a subject is open book and the answers are after the quizzes. I found the material presented to be easy to read and held my interest. Maybe that's because in the four years I've had my license I've heard horror stories about mistakes agents can make when not understanding the concepts and laws. I could easily understand the literature and found myself saying, "That was interesting!" I was lucky to have Annette Barton as my counselor. Not only patient and professional, it seemed that she answered the phone each time I called or at least returned my call within a few minutes. Annette always answered my questions cheerfully and never made me feel embarrassed asking the same question more than once! Thank you, Annette You made the renewal of my license very comfortable and streamlined. I will definitely sign up with EP Real Estate School to renew my license in 4 years!

Students attend weekly meetings that include Hot Words (usually SAT prep), a family style dinner, a take home lesson, and tutoring by college students or other volunteers. RC also sends eligible students to UCSD over the summer to take courses for college credit, to a week-long summer camp to bond with other students, and helps seniors complete their college & scholarship applications... did I mention this is all for free? The students who I've met here are some of the most intelligent, friendly, and resilient high schoolers I know, and everyone on staff is wonderful. If you live in San Diego and you have a couple of free hours every week, definitely DEFINITELY check out this organization! Because education is a right, not a privilege - and you can help make one student's dream a reality!

Over the years, Reality Changers has proven that it is much more than a non-profit program. I have volunteered as a tutor and mentor since Spring of 2008 (back when I was still a student at UCSD) and it has been extremely rewarding seeing the students grow and mature into responsible citizens and adults. The weekly program consists of S.A.T. test preparation, an insightful lesson, a delicious homemade dinner (which is five stars for sure! not every volunteer gig you do feeds you!), and then 1.5 hours of study time. During this time, you are paired up with a small group of students which makes it easier to connect with the students. Reality Changers has even had inspiring guest speakers such as politicians, leaders in the San Diego community, and university officials. With the help of the supportive and encouraging staff and volunteers, these inner-city youth from San Diego become the first in their families to attend a four-year university.. and not only do they defy all statistics against them to get ACCEPTED, these students earn scholarships to go to schools such as Duke, Harvard, Dartmouth, USC, UCLA, and more. This truly shows how Reality Changers is more than just a program that helps high school students. It gives teens who never might have had the chance an opportunity of a lifetime and I am happy and blessed to be a part of it. It is amazing what a few hours a week can do to transform a student's life. This organization is unlike place I've ever volunteered at because they really make everyone who is a part of the program - whether you're a tutor, a parent, a volunteer, or a student feel like part of the RC Family. Also, tutors come from very diverse backgrounds - there are many college students (from UCSD, SDSU, PLNU, etc), professionals from the community, retired adults, and more who are all invested in helping inner city students from San Diego be the first in their families to go to college.
