I took SAT tutoring here, back when the SAT had three sections and was scored out of 2400. I ended up with a 2040 -- which at the time was the ~94th percentile. I scored a 730 on the Writing section, which was the ~99th percentile for men back then. So why the bad review? I ended up dropping out and self-studying halfway through because I was treated in an extremely condescending and arrogant way by Vincent Perry. At first, I had a wonderful tutor who handled my English and Writing sections -- she was kind, patient, and professional. When she left, I was told I was "lucky" to be upgraded to a "master tutor," Vincent, at no extra charge. For context, they were charging $50 an hour at the time but paying tutors only $15 an hour. I know this because several UCSD students I knew worked there and confirmed it. Vincent started an argument with me during our very first essay review after I used the phrase "due to." He claimed it was grammatically incorrect because it supposedly referred to being "due" like a deadline rather than "as a result of." When I politely disagreed, he told me I was being argumentative. I can assure you, I was polite and articulate -- he simply didn't like being challenged. So I dropped out and finished my prep on my own. About a year later, when I was in college, I applied for a position there. Vincent sent me an unprofessional rant accusing me of being a terrible student with poor work ethic -- completely out of nowhere, and long after I'd left. Without his help, I still achieved an excellent SAT score and couldn't justify asking my parents to keep paying for those lessons. I went on to graduate from UCSB, a Tier 1 research university, taught math and computer science for six years, and later worked at Microsoft and several tech startups as a senior sales executive. I can't attribute even a fraction of that success to this place. From what I remember, the lessons mostly consisted of buying a review book, being assigned problems, and then going over those problems in class. You can buy the same books yourself for under $100 and save the trouble of being mistreated. Even though this happened many years ago, I doubt much has changed. Remember that students don't forget experiences like this -- treat them with respect and listen to them. Your students are your customers.

While Oh La La appears to have great reviews for group classes, I would NOT recommend them for 1st…read moredance lessons for a wedding. First, I did not find the scheduling/payment process to be professional. We negotiated for a package of 10 lessons for $700.00 (1 per month up until our wedding). Suzie, the owner, asked us to pay this entire amount upfront via Venmo. I informed her that having never met her or the instructor or even set foot in the studio, I did not feel comfortable paying up front via Venmo b/c if they were running some sort of scam, they could run off w/ my money, & I would be SOOL. I said that I would gladly pay up front via credit card b/c if they ran off w/ my money that way, at least I could dispute the charge. To Suzie's credit, she was understanding of this concern, & she allowed me to pay for each lesson, one at a time, 48 hours in advance via Venmo. Thank GOD, I had the foresight to be concerned about this b/c as you will read below, our instructor abandoned us after lesson 4, without ever completing our dance, so if we had paid the $700.00 up front via Venmo, he could have run off w/ our money. My 2nd issue was the lack of organization & professionalism in scheduling. Because we wanted to do 1 lesson per month up until our wedding, we asked our instructor, Mehmet, several times if we could book all of our lessons in advance on the same day of the week each month (e.g., every 2nd Wednesday of every month). Every time we asked this, he just brushed us off & told us to text him whenever we wanted to schedule, which just made a lot of extra work for us to have to text him the week b4 every time we wanted a lesson rather than already having it planned. Next, on our 1st lesson, Mehmet spent several minutes trying to talk us out of the song we picked for our first dance, which frankly, I very much did NOT appreciate as I put great thought into selecting it. Thankfully, I stuck to my guns & did not change the song, & eventually, it won Mehmet over, & even he liked it. Given we purchased 10 lessons, I expected we would spend more than 1 lesson on the basics, but by lesson 2, Mehmet informed us he had decided to be a flight attended again but assured us (1) it would not impact our dance, & (2) we would leave that day w/ the 1st minute of our dance complete (which seemed rushed for lesson 2 of 10). He even offered to fly back for our lessons, but we told him that was NOT necessary, & if he needed to, he could pass us off to another instructor. Lessons 2-4 seemed pretty rushed, & frankly, seemed like we were going to finish our dance way too quickly, with way too many lessons left, but we figured it would be good to have lots to polish the dance. We had lesson 1 in Oct, 2 in Nov, 3 in Dec, & 4 in Jan, but we never ended up having lesson 5 in Feb b/c Mehmet was not responsive to our texts. This could have been resolved had he agreed to see us on a consistent night each month like we originally requested. He finally responded after I followed up 3x & asked if we could do Wed, 3/2. Even though it was a bad night for us (we had my mom's birthday dinner), we said yes b/c it had been so hard to schedule w/ him. It was also a little disappointing that he asked us to send him the video he took of our dance b/c he apparently, forgot the choreography. 1.5 hours before our lesson, he texted us that he was sick & had to cancel. While are 100% glad he would cancel if sick, he said nothing about re-scheduling & merely asked us to call the owner, Suzie. My fiancé called her, & she said Mehmet had told her the choreography for our dance was done! We still have over a minute of our dance left that has not been choreographed!!! My fiancé asked if she could complete the dance, & she said she had too much on her plate to fulfill Mehmet's obligations. While she did offer to try & find someone else to finish the dance, we informed her that we have been so disappointed w/ the whole experience that we would rather go somewhere more professional. Now, we are behind on our scheduled lessons & having to find a new studio. We have a 1st lesson w/ another studio this week, where the lessons will be $15.00 more per lessons, but we are fine w/ paying more for a studio that is more reliable & trustworthy. Long story short, Oh La La seems to have great reviews for group clases for children, but planning a wedding is stressful enough. We thought our dance lessons would be something fun to do together, but thanks to Oh La La, it's turned out to be one of the more stressful parts of wedding planning. For anyone looking for private lessons for a wedding 1st dance, please heed our cautionary tale & go elsewhere! I'm giving 2 stars b/c we mostly like the 2 minutes of choreography we do have but are very disappointed that Mehmet not only lied to us when he promised to complete our dance but then also lied to the owner, Suzie, by telling her he completed our dance when he never did!

I was looking for a studio that was welcoming to a child with little dance experience, but still willing to give them a chance and work with them to perform on stage for competition. A competing dance studio said their try outs were demanding and wasn't sure my kid would cut it. They also played music that wasn't very age appropriate. At Ooh La La, the owner's biggest belief is to provide a welcoming place for all. She made all the parents sign a commitment form stating there is no drama at this academy. She said we applaud every dancer's successes and help those who need some extra TLC. It is exactly the right philosophy for how I wanted to introduce my daughter to her first sport. And a couple of weeks in, I already see. The teachers are working with me to help get my daughter her extra TLC and my daughter is learning from older teenage dancers that she thinks are just the most beautiful ballerinas. Thank you for having a great studio!

The kids were loud and cause disruption while still waiting outside. They let people in while chewing gum and making so much chewing noise. I complained about this and my concern was met with a cold shoulder. The lady at the desk did not even take it serious and just smiled in a creepy way every time I brought it up. They take forever to get people to be checked in and out. If you are taking a test and is on a scheduled break, this center is a disaster and they will waste your exam time chatting and laughing with the kids while checking them in. I waited more than 40 mins to check in when it takes simply no more than 10 mins at every prometric I've been to. They had 3 employees and none gave a damn about the 10+ people waiting in line. Do not trust them to take your exams here. The manager clearly just wants money and crams a large number of people including kids inside. On top of it, their headphones are very cheap in quality and doesn't even go over the ear. There is no noise cancellation in them. While I was listening to audio during the test I could hear all the noise outside which caused me a major distraction. Everyone here is so lazy and walks slower than a sloth and doesn't appreciate or understand the seriousness of exams. Do not take your exams here. Someone needs to close this branch or make changes to the useless apathetic staff working here.

On a separate visit, another staff member refused to scan me in until a fellow test-taker intervened. Staff also speak loudly enough to be heard from inside the testing rooms, and I've seen multiple people wait far past their scheduled test time due to disorganized check-ins. A few staff were kind, but overall, this location lacks professionalism, respect, and basic courtesy, especially toward people with disabilities. Sharing my experience both as a person with a disability and as a general test taker. First, I want to address the disability aspect. The only reason I used testing accommodations for my most recent exam was because I felt pressured into doing so--not because I personally wanted or needed them. During a prior visit, a staff member treated me with a complete lack of sensitivity and basic respect. She loudly and rudely told me to sign up for accommodations in front of others, as though it were a directive rather than a personal right. Her tone was dismissive and patronizing and she spoke in a way that implied accommodations would simply make things "easier" for the staff rather than for me. It's completely inappropriate to make assumptions based on someone's visible disability, and even more unacceptable to express those assumptions in a public and demeaning way. On the day I returned for my exam with accommodations, another woman on staff was so blatantly ableist that another test-taker actually had to intervene. She initially refused to scan me in for the exam and was only prompted to act when another test-taker, who witnessed what was happening, called her out and strongly insisted that she treat me fairly. Fortunately, the rest of the staff I interacted with were kind, respectful, and professional. Beyond that, there are general concerns with the center's environment and operations. The staff often speak loudly, so loudly that their voices can clearly be heard from inside the testing rooms, which is distracting for test-takers who are trying to focus. Additionally, although I haven't personally experienced this, I've witnessed multiple people waiting a long time, sometimes excessively long, to be checked in. That level of inefficiency adds unnecessary stress to what is already a high-pressure experience.

She sent over two different referrals while on vacation and then continued to follow up to make sure that we made contact and had everything we needed, even though she wasn't able to help us.
