Specialties
Led by a Ph.D. in Mathematics (UCSD) with over 30 years of experience, Ask A Way Tutoring specializes in high-level mathematical mastery. Unlike traditional tutoring that relies on rote memorization, we utilize the Socratic Method -- a process of inquiry that builds genuine intuition, critical thinking, and long-term confidence. We don’t just show you how to solve a problem; we teach you how to think through it.
Our specialties include:
Advanced & University Coursework: AP Calculus (AB/BC), Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Number Theory, Discrete Math, and Advanced Engineering Mathematics.
Competitive Math Prep: Specialized coaching for AMC 8, 10, 12, and AIME.
Standardized Testing (Quantitative): Expert prep for SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, PSAT/NMSQT, and ISEE/SSAT.
Higher Education Support: Specialized tutoring for students at UCSD, SDSU, USD, and local community colleges.
From middle school fundamentals to complex university-level theory, we find "a way" to excellence for every student. We specialize in working with high-achievers looking to get ahead, as well as students looking to overcome "math anxiety" by building a logical foundation from the ground up.
Proudly serving the San Diego community, including La Jolla, Carmel Valley, Del Mar, and Rancho Santa Fe. Inquire today to experience an inquiry-based approach to mathematical success.
History
Established in 2013.
Ask A Way Tutoring was founded to bring university-level mathematical expertise to personalized coaching. My journey began in San Diego, where I earned my Bachelor’s in Mathematics (CS minor) from the University of San Diego, followed by my Ph.D. in Mathematics from UC San Diego (UCSD).
With over 30 years of teaching experience, I have guided students from San Diego’s top institutions -- including La Jolla Country Day, Torrey Pines HS, and University City HS -- to university students at UCSD, SDSU, and USD. My background spans from academic lecturing to competitive math coaching and international online mentorship. I transitioned into private practice to focus on the Socratic Method: a process of inquiry that replaces rote memorization with genuine logical mastery. Today, I continue to help local students and professionals conquer everything from Honors Calculus to graduate-level quantitative exams.
Meet the Business Owner: Archie M.
My passion for mathematics began in elementary school and led to a lifelong pursuit of the subject's beauty and logic. This drive was so strong that by my senior year of high school, I took AP Calculus AB and BC simultaneously -- a challenge that set the stage for my academic career.
After earning my Bachelor’s from USD and my Ph.D. from UCSD, I realized my true calling was helping others find their own "Aha!" moments. With over 30 years of experience, I’ve refined a Socratic approach that goes beyond "showing the work." I believe math is not just a set of rules, but a language to be mastered.
I founded Ask A Way Tutoring to provide San Diego students with more than just homework help. Whether I’m coaching a student for the AMC 12 or guiding a university student through Linear Algebra, my goal is to make math as intuitive and engaging for them as it has always been for me. I look forward to helping you find "a way" to mathematical excellence.
