If you want to find the state's most delicious grinder, it's right here! Fresh bread is just the start. The meats are so delicious, my favorite it the roastbeef grinder, with provolone, tomato and lettuce. Another favorite is it meatball and the chicken cutlet. Great for a lunch in the park or on your way to the beach. Staff is very friendly and helpful which is always a plus. Great job, keeping it REALE team! read more

I'm somewhat surprised by the all over reviews for Reale's. Reale's is an old school neighborhood market that also serves grinders. While I do like their grinders I would never consider them the best in New England. They're definitely better than anything you'd get from a Subway but I would never consider them gourmet. Prices aren't high but you get a good sized grinder with plenty of meat. I don't see how someone would complain about them though. I'm partial to their chip selection which includes a great selection of Utz & Dirty Chips brand. Their Dirty Chips brand selection is the best in town & they also are one of the 2 places I've found Utz's Carolina BBQ which are phenomenal. They do carry an awesome chicken salad but sadly it's not made on site. Plus they carry Faygo. Good grinders, awesome chip selection & Faygo. I'd recommend it for a quick lunch spot if you're in the area. read more

I heard that this place had good Grinders so I stopped by to check them out. I posted a photo of half of the meatball grinder. It is the neatest meatball grinder I have ever seen. So the service was really lack luster. No smiles but willing to answer questions. A nice selection of chips and drinks. I got a plum Arizona tea that's hard to come by. The food was just meh, okay. Needed more meatballs or more sauce. I'd rather have gone to Subway, really. read more

I've lived in westerly for 3+ years and have never even heard of or seen this place. But after starting my new job, we're only 2 minutes down the road, and it's our go to place. It's not the best, but it is good. if you like an Italian sub, you may find the meat is sliced a little thick, and the bread a little soft. On the other hand, the maple turkey is by far my favorite sandwich that they offer. They have a good selection of chips and drinks and other snacks. Also some odd things in there. Prices are cheap, I'm out the door for about 7$. Im there 4 times a week usually, service is always consistent, along with the maple turkey. It's a small shop, looks a little ghetto, but has hard working, fast, and friendly employees. No tables to eat on, or seats to sit in. But they do make a decent grinder. I was all excited about the grinders here based on the reviews. Sadly the grinders we got were pretty average. I ordered an Italian which was nothing special. It had the usual meats on it and a ton of chopped lettuce. Oil & vinegar, banana peppers and onions rounded it out. The bread was the biggest disappointment - from the reviews I was sort of expecting the bread to be something like you'd get at a real Italian bakery (Buono's in North Providence, for example). The bread was soft and tender, lacking that chewy crust that epitomizes real Italian bread. This was more like what you'd get in any ordinary sub shop. I asked for a chicken salad grinder. She never asked if I wanted anything on it , so I figured I was safe with just getting chicken salad. When I got home , there was lettuce , tomato, and cheese. Completely & totally average. My husband picked this place based on the other glowing reviews & we were completely underwhelmed. The meats- totally delicious deli meat. The bread- soft & squishy like subway (actually Subway might have better bread). It was an overall thin sandwich- nothing too impressive to write home about & certainly nothing to go out of your way for. We also ordered a pasta salad & a potato salad to try & both were completely tasteless. In fact, if I had not known the potato salad was a potato salad, I would not have known what I was eating- didn't taste even remotely like potatoes to me, let alone a baked potato salad- yuck! The pasta salad was just odd tasting. Overall, we both deemed it completely mediocre. There are plenty of places to get a better sandwich around town. read more

This is a solid sandwich stop. The pickles are cut thick, which is awesome. They also carry some flavors of Faygo, my favorite pop from Detroit. I don't know any other place here that sells it, limited flavors though and not really the popular ones. read more

Okay I moved out of Westerly in 1966. I also belong to a facebook page of 1340 people who all used to or some still do live in Westerly. We all agree that the grinders at Reale's Grocery are and always have been the best anywhere in the United States bar none. If you don't know what a "grinder" is you don't understand what other people call a sub sandwich or what their history it. They were invented in the RI and Groton CT area during world war II and this place makes the best there is and gives you a taste of why now the word sub is universal all over the United States. In the war the Italians served these to the sailors on the subs out of New London and they were so good they demanded them when they went back home after the war ended in 1945. Thus now a very American meal is known as subs. When the real name was "grinders" which is a reference to the grinding that you do on your teeth when you bite into a real grinder from Reales' Grocery. The bread is what no one around the country can recreate, because in order to get the hard crust on the fresh italian bread right out of the oven you have to throw water on the dough as it cooks. AND THIS DESTROYS THE OVENS, so none of the bakers want to ruin their very expensive ovens so there are only a few people in the US who can make a real grinder and REALES GROCERY has them. I have no idea who is still making that special bread but after 50 years of trying to find other people who could equal it around the US myself and 1340 other people who used to live in Westerly have given up and yes, we do drive to Westerly to get these great grinders. I have lived in Baltimore, MD for thirty plus years and I still say this as do the other 1340 plus members of the Facebook ex Westerly citizens website. I look here periodically to make sure that the third generation of this establishment haven't screwed it up. Tell me if these aren't the best italian grinders you have ever had. Great grinders! I go to Reale's especially when I just have to have the prosciuttini grinder (kind of a smoky, salty ham). I don't think anyone else in town has it. Really fresh and delicious grinders - bread is wonderful. Side salads are pretty good - nothing to write home about, but a nice accompaniment to their grinders. People are great and the service is fast. Have been going here since I was a kid and will keep it up as long as we're both around! read more

In our continued search for the best value lunch, today we visited my buddy's childhood town of Westerly. Last week North Smithfield (Beef Barn), this week the opposite end of the state where only the locals would know about this place. Apparently Reale's has been here forever turning out grinders on fresh soft torpedo rolls. I loved the freshness of the roll and for those that are not lovers of SOFT rolls, this is not your place. Since I had never been there before, it took me time to look at their menu on the wall. My bud knew exactly what he wanted and they quickly whipped out his grinder with a smile. He went for a small Italian which looked good however I did not really get a look at what was put on it since I was trying to make up my mind. It was wrapped up in classic white paper before I could blink my eye. I think his was $3.90. I went for the small Italian HOT ham grinder. Not Capicola, which I love also (minus the fat). This is very lean spicy ham. Some provolone, lettuce, tomato, oil & vinegar and it was ready to eat. They have a list of EXTRA's which you can put on the grinder if you want. $4.90. Since there are no table/seats, we sat in the car in enjoyed our sandwiches. What I enjoyed most was the freshness of everything. Yes the meat is piled up where you can see it already sliced but I think that is more for their convenience to speed up the process. Being a north end resident I appreciate reales being within walking distance, the grinders are fairly priced and well filled with ingredients, ppl have complained about the bread, as far as I know it is delivered by calise bakery which makes a decent bread I have never been dissapointed by reales. If you are looking for a crustier sandwich bread go to petes grocery in bradford, id rate them at 4 stars as well read more
