The best thing about today, Sunday at Aldi, which is normally busy, but today it wasn't, is ... I got my shopping cart free from a lady in the parking lot, pay it forward, she said. I then walked in the door, where the fruits and vegetables greet you now, to find it all disheveled! Empty cardboard boxes, fruit, such as grapes and strawberries, and other berries, opened, and askew. I mentioned this to the cashier, who said, about 2 hrs ago, some really unruly kids came in and made the mess. 2 hours ago !!! Nobody to clean it up? Nobody .. this is the 2nd time I have been in this store and it has been like this. Have they cut down on their staff to save $$? I love Aldi's; their products and prices can't be beat. I frequently shop the Westerly store and the staff are normally very pleasant and helpful...all except a cashier named Spencer. He is a very rude and unpleasant man. He should not be dealing with the public. read more

All the food is full of chemicals. Poor selection Not sure why people like this place. Walked out without buying anything.

My new go-to for groceries. Prices are low and service is always friendly. Pros: Quick moving check out lines. Cashiers do not bag your items. UPC symbols cover every side of the product for quick scanning. You bag your own- no squished or lost items (unless that's how you bag...) Low prices. I can fill up a cart for about $80 at Aldi's. Stop and Shop I would easily spend $200 per week. Walmart trips always ended up with me busting out another Franklin. Store Brand is just as good or even better than national brands. Also their chocolate is from Germany. It's perfectly tempered. Even the cheap Christmas stocking stuffer chocolates had a delightful snap to it. My hubby has always been an Aldi skeptic. Last week I made meatballs and sauce. All using Aldi's products. He was impressed and we both went to Aldi's the next day and he bought 6 jars of sauce. Workers make above state minimum wage. Items are displayed in the boxes they came in. No more chips that have been smashed to bits because of over handling. Tons of organic, gluten free, and nonGMO products. We love the organic non GMO hot salsa. At $1.99 it's even lower than Tostitos salsa at other stores. Everything is backed with a 100% guarantee. Cons: No fresh herbs. Not many name brands (in case your particular for a certain product) You need a 25¢ for a shopping cart (deposit) and to bring your own bags. It takes getting used to but after a few trips (and having to buy their bags each time) and it becomes second nature. Limited flavors and varieties. Aldi's carries about 2 or 3 of each of their store brands products. For instance Hot Pockets comes in a dozen or so flavors. Aldi's hot pockets come in pepperoni and cheese or ham and cheese (kid approved. He likes them better than Hot Pockets. And the packaging is easier to heat in than the name brand). If you see a deal on the shelf- don't wait to get it. I saw a nice travel mug. I got home and regretted not getting it. So I went back the next day- they had taken all of the mugs into the office for mark downs. I came back the next day and found that the mugs had been lowered to $1.50 and some lady (rightly so) bought the rest of the mugs. Seafood is sourced from China. Our household (even though we are Chinese) would rather have USA sourced seafood. I believe The US has better fishing ethics. I find that the pros out weigh the cons. All in all we love Aldi's and will continue to shop there! read more

Eastern Connecticut and western RI are terrible for quality, healthy food. There are no Whole Foods and grocery stores carry the B and C level goods but a - level plus pricing. ALDIs is the top of the heap of junk food providers. Yes their stuff is very cheap. But you have to live to pre packaged produce from packers with US based locations but no country of origin. I saw garlic which is very easily identified from China if the roots are shaven clean. However In aldis packaging from a local address the garlic are carefully packed back to back to hide the roots. I bought one and sure enough enough Chinese garlic. For anyone who doesn't know look it up. In China they use human waste and other very nasty things for fertilizer. Interesting ALDIs works are obscuring this. Bought a large watermelon. 6.99 and very large. But when cut Open it looked rotted, yellow around edge and puke level disgusting. There was red in the center. Way in the center. I tasted it and it was sweet but very weird aftertaste which not pleasant. I know this wasn't from China but apparently some Chem farm operations. Ok, so over the past couple years this has become my new go-to grocery store. I love that I can walk in one week and leave with a carton of almond milk, a buffalo chicken cauliflower pizza and a new door mat, and the next week I leave with dark chocolate covered sea salted cashews, a package of chicken thighs and a new set of sheets. This place is genius! I wouldn't recommend that this be the only place you shop as everything is hit or miss and you never know what they will have. I still like to get my veggies and such from a couple local markets around but Aldis is a great way to start building your meal (on a budget.) Also, bring a quarter. Get a carriage. I've learned pretty quickly, that your arms fill up in no time. read more

I love Aldi's!!! So why not 5 stars ? If I could give it 4 1/2 , I would - I have had good results with meats, fresh and frozen seafood, canned goods, breads and produce. The exception is there is a limited variety of produce and sometimes certain products they normally stock are absent , which necessitates a subsequent visit to another store. But in terms of savings, Aldi rocks! And my store in Westerly is lucky to have friendly and very efficient checkout personnel as well. read more

The past two times I have shopped in the store there was no disinfectant at the entrance. I spoke to two women who were employees, not line workers they had store badges and dressed in business attire, obviously managers from the corporation. When told there were no disinfect going supplies one answered there was a dispenser with disinfecting solution. I told the young women that there was no solution in the dispenser. She said it would be refilled. She seems uninterested and turned back to her co worker These days are especially dangerous . I am hesitant to shop here since my last two times nothing was provided for safety. Please make supplying disinfecting supplies a prorty. read more

They've been in Westerly for a couple years now, just went through a major renovation. I don't shop there anymore. Problem is keeping items in stock, and "temporary items". Some items will be there one week, and the next week they're gone....you either have to wait for the next truck to arrive or they're only there for a spell and then they disappear. It's frustrating, the unreliability. Get there early for fruits and vegetables if you want good pickings. The workers, if you can find them are very helpful. Meh, what are you gonna do? read more

I don't mind buying private label, generic canned or boxed items but I've had lousy luck with some of their fruits. The bananas don't taste right and have "lumps" in them. Not sure where they are imported from. And recently we bought mandarin oranges (3 lbs netted bag) that peeled easily but the fruit inside the peel was found already separated and it felt slimy to the touch. The flavor differed from one to the other, from sweet to bitter to rancid. Some had mold on the outside on the peel, and more than half had to be discarded because due to mishandling they were beat up and mushy. Mold was also extensively seen on their strawberries. I'm not sure how old these products are when they are displayed to the public, but more considerable effort should be put into supplying quality to their clientele. When you're throwing half of the package away then it becomes twice as expensive. No more Aldi beat up fruits and vegetables for me! read more

Aldi's is great I buy most of my fruits and vegies there.They keep them out on shelves, so they are not sprayed with water, they are displayed in the boxes they are shipped in so they are not handled as much. You can't always find what you are looking for but they have most things. Have not bought meat there looks like it was packaged who knows where rather go someplace with a butcher. They fave a great section of gluten free products at a wonderful prices. Westerly store seems much cheeper tthan their Groton store. read more

Aldi is awesome. All of their products are private label (not generic) and taste great. The prices are amazing and the quality is equal to larger grocery stores. They have a decent selection of gluten free foods and are working to eliminate all artificial colors and additives to their products by 2017. Some people get thrown off by having to bag their own groceries or rent the shopping cart for $0.25 but it's actually a smart system. Aldi saves money by not having to hire extra people and the customers benefit from the lower operating costs! Also, I like that Aldi is known to pay their workers a respectable living wage with benefits. It's a smaller store so I can't always find everything I need but it's always my first stop on grocery day. read more

Great prices for eggs, cheese and staples (chicken broth, crackers, etc.). Their Beaumont brand of coffee is cheap but good. Not thrilled about some of their produce. I tried to buy a bag of spinach once and couldn't find one that looked fresh (although that's happened at my Richmond Stop & Shop plenty of times too), but prices are usually lower if you find produce that looks good. I also appreciate the fact that they pay a living wage to their employees and provide good benefits. They don't contribute to plastic pollution by handing out single-use plastic bags - you must bring your own bags (it's a GOOD thing!). read more

Wanted beef stew...went to aldi's to check out what they had. It's not a typical market not what I was expecting but I was able to get everything I needed and more. The produce looked good and the prices were better than Walmart. The meat is choice which is a desirable cut, and the milk prices were the best in town. I picked up some TP at a good price too.
