We come here every year for our annual fall photos and to get some small pumpkins and gourds. The farm is adorable and everyone here is so nice. The pumpkins we have left with always lasted long too! Overpriced produce. Not all grown on farm obviously. Now, political signs all over their property, not too bright for a business . You should keep your political party to yourself when you own a business and are trying to sell products . I simply do not trust this farm anymore , your party is all for in pesticides , rolling back consumer protections and price gouging . I would not feed your food to my children for fear of how it was grown and handled . I will never buy anything from Whittle Farm again ever again ! read more

What a rip off! Not only was everything outrageously expensive, "pick your own" pumpkins consisted of walking around a grassy area where clearly various winter squash/pumpkins had just been placed there, not grown there. More than half of them were in different stages of rotting. read more

I've been going to this farm all my life for summertime corn. Their corn is very good. However, I stopped by for a dozen ears and some tomatoes, also grabbed some early macs. The corn was pre-bagged and when I shucked it, was lots of shorts. Really sucked because I have people coming over & we wanted to celebrate the end of summer & enjoy full size corn at the full size price I was charged. This really sucks because I was going back there to give them another chance after buying macs. I looked at the macs behind the counter and asked for 3 of them on that excursion. The lady behind the counter told me I couldn't have any if those until they sold the other apples in the next bin over. The old, mealy looking ones. I skipped that purchase entirely. Hopefully they'll look for feedback & make some adjustments. I'd live to support my local merchants before others. read more

New to the area, went to Whittles road side produce stand today after driving by several times. First a little back story... I owned a produce store for 15 years beginning in 1989. before buying my own 12 month a year store, I managed someone else's store for over 10 years. We were open 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year. There is nothing like buying fresh produce right from the stand. I had great relationships with all the local farmers and as soon as the local produce was available, I had it in my store. Tomatoes, Corn, Cukes, Eggplant, Beans, Apples, etc... When I went to Whittles today, I expected to see some beautiful fresh produce. A lot of what I saw was not grown at their farm and in fact some was straight from Florida. The eggplant that they tried to pass off as native is not from CT. I know this because I sold native eggplant when it was in season and I sold eggplant from other parts of the country in the off season. (Mostly Florida) Native eggplant is very distinctive. Besides being dirty, the tops are very prickly. This eggplant was shiny and smooth including the tops. They had some tomatoes, small peaches, apples and pears that I believe is grown right there on their farm. They also had corn which I believe was native to their farm. The issue is that they keep the corn in the back of the counter and it is already pre-bagged. I thought to myself... what do they have to hide? I have never ever seen corn hidden in paper bags and behind a counter. Well... I found out. The corn is small and highly doubtful that it was picked today. I'm positive that they pick corn every day but the corn that isn't sold on the day of picking, shouldn't be sold as fresh picked corn the following day. When I returned home to shuck the corn, I was really surprised with what i found in the bag. The corn was small, the tops of the corn were dried out and the corn looked to have been semi shucked as if someone removed some of the dried out husk. I called the farm when I was done shucking all 6 ears. A woman answered the phone and she was to her credit, very polite. I explained what I encountered and I was told that the corn that I purchased was picked today and that any corn that is left over is fed to their pigs. Of course because of my experience in this business, I disagreed with what I was told. I then asked about the eggplant. I asked if the eggplant was native. The woman answered YES. I know what your thinking... I set her up. Your right but I couldn't help it. I needed to know if I would be lied to about other products that they are selling. So I went on to ask if they grow the eggplant at their farm. I was told that they purchase the eggplant from other farmers and they they frequently trade products with local farmers. My answer to that is simple. If you truly believe that your eggplant is native, get out of the business. You were either sold Florida eggplant from another farm or you bought it yourself at the farmers market when you were buying your onions and potatoes. Either way you know that eggplant is NOT native to CT. Just like many of the other things in your road side stand. I was offered an opportunity to return the corn for a refund or to just tell them the next time I go in and they would make it right for me. I look at it as a lesson learned and declined the offer. Dishonesty really bothers me, especially at a produce stand. It's kind of a pet peeve of mine. read more

Great spot for pumpkins! Not great for apple picking. The apples were tiny and they had a poor selection. The people working we're nice! But the apples were far too small. We ended up picking Granny Smiths which are great for eating and they were a good size. But I wasn't able to make the pie I wanted to. Oh well. read more

This place has become kinda a family tradition for my kids and I. We first went apple picking when my daughter was 9 months old and we went every year while I lived in Groton, and now this is a special place for me. The apples are not the best, but the folks are super friendly, the veggies for sale are nice and we have a gerat time. We have always gone to this farm for our veggies and pumpkins. We go there at least once a week, but after today we will not be returning and neither will anyone in our family. We went to go get pumpkins. I had 30 dolllars on me. A 20 and a 10. our bill came to 23.38. I gave the woman 30.38, she hands me back two bucks. I told her this was not right and she insisted that it was. I was floored. she never even gave me a reciept. I know how much I gave her. We went to go feed the chickens and I thought about it some more. My change should have been 7.00. I went back to explain and the woman crossed her arms, shook her head and said no you are wrong. I said the ten i gave you was folded in half, can you please look, she said no. How rude, how unproffessional. I handle money for a living and I know how much i brought. I understand that they sell their product to make a living, but when your clerk is stealing customers money, that is wrong. We will NEVER be returning and i will be spreading the word. It makes me sad to see the "less than sterling" reviews here. I'm 71 years old and have been buying produce from the Willow Spring Market for as far back as I can remember. It was a treat to go there with my dad when I was just a little girl. As far as my family is concerned, there is no better corn around, though I'm aware that they sometimes get corn from other farms when it's early in the season and theirs isn't quite ready. I really take issue with the reviewer who accuses them of lying about the origin of their eggplant. Because she fancies herself some sort of eggplant expert, we are expected to believe her over the good folks at Whittle's who we've done business with for decades. For me, a weekly visit to Whittle's is a nice ride and I'm rewarded with tasty, fresh produce and often a free apple or peach to eat on the way home or to share with my great grandson. Kudos to Whittle's for creating generations of happy, satisfied customers. read more
