The owner, Juerica, is extremely unprofessional. Her character and conduct are highly questionable. She over-promises and under-delivers to prospective parents. One of her selling points is the presence of accessible cameras for parents to monitor their kids. However, the cameras were never installed during the three weeks my son was enrolled. When asked about the cameras, she would come up with excuses like HIPAA, which doesn't even apply in this setting. It seems like she tries to sound knowledgeable by using certain buzzwords. Ms. Juerica also promised and allegedly registered for an app to communicate with parents about their child's day, but that never materialized. She never provided any documents on my son's formula intake, bowel movements, sleeping patterns, or disposition. Often, she wouldn't share this information at the end of the day. At one point, she even displayed an attitude because I refused to disclose a private conversation with another parent. It was unprofessional for her to inquire about our conversation. I decided to remove my son from the daycare at the end of August after that incident. In addition to her unfulfilled promises, she lacks an understanding of personal and professional boundaries. She found it acceptable to discuss other children and families with me. Her mother, who also works at the daycare, displays the same lack of professionalism. They had issues with another family and misrepresented the number of enrolled children to me. It turned out that it was only my son and one other child at the beginning, despite Ms. Juerica's claims of limited spots. The final incident that led to my immediate withdrawal of my son was when her mother made a derogatory comment about another child's parent, who is South Asian. This display of prejudice and lack of emotional intelligence was unacceptable to me as a parent. When I confronted Ms. Juerica about her unprofessional conduct, she did not respond or offer an apology. Additionally, she has not refunded me for the rest of August's tuition or for logo embroidery of onesies that were never done, nor has she allowed me to pick up my son's belongings. It's disheartening because as a parent, you trust caregivers like Ms. Juerica to not only care for your child but also to act professionally and with decency. I hope this review helps other parents avoid the stress I experienced in finding quality childcare.

It's a quaint operation with a big heart. Bean put a lot of work into the effort, building a box office, providing refreshments including wine, a crawfish spinach artichoke dip, and hot dogs, chips, etc. for the kiddos. :-) The menu mixture threw me off for a minute until I thought about young theater-goers. The theater puts on good productions which normally win praises from people who truly appreciate seeing local talent at work. Bean's dedication to providing that venue for local actors and playwrights, who are mostly African-American, has been a joy to follow. His acting school component provides an opportunity for amateur thespians to learn and sharpen their skills. Most impressive is the effort the Anthony Bean Community Theater has put into the little things which make the theater experience enjoyable. The chairs are nicely covered, the surrounding curtains and risers make you forget that you are on the second floor of an old school, and (best of all) the lighting and sets are very good.

I have heard nothing but positive comments and stories from the audience members. Mr. Bean directs his focus on developing the talents and acting skills of local children. When you attend a production at the theater, you get the whole theater package with superb actors, dancing, set design, and costumes as well. This has to be one of New Orleans best kept secrets, a small theater company with first-class productions that will rank way beyond your expectations. I am looking forward to the new location in Gentilly on Paris Ave.

JCC Aqua Fit program has been declining for months. Suggestions by members to increase classes,…read moreupgrade equipment and replace instructors are ignored. Since the hiring of a new CEO a couple of months ago, several aqua fit classes have been canceled so the pool can be used for swim lessons for the child care center and summer camps. This has especially impacted the seniors who joined the JCC specifically for the low impact benefits of water aerobics. Since summer camps, swim lessons and pool parties generate significant income, It seems that the financial bottom line is more important than addressing membership in the "community center." Too bad, the aqua fit program affects at least 50 members who are the active adults who use the facility daily. Do not join for the aqua program right now. Hopefully we will be heard in the future and classes will be restored.

Re: COVID-19 operations and safety practices…read more I gotta slow clap for y'all because I am loving the new implementation of the appointments online and how serious the JCC is taking COVID-19. Members of JCC Uptown are able to book appointments up to three days in advance for one hour block sessions. Everyone has to wear a mask upon entry and get your temperature checked. Per their constant email communications all members must arrive ready to workout (lockers are only available for bathrooms so no showers or storage purposes) and bring in your own towel and water bottle. They allow no more than 7 people at a time in the cardio room and around 8/9 in the weights room. Within the cardio room every other machine is shut down to practice social distancing. You'll also find plenty of marked disinfected and used cleaning sprays so you can wipe your machine before and after. Their team also cleans the machines CONSTANTLY. Like I seriously would get off the cardio machine wipe it down, just to then see them wipe it down again themselves. I feel safe coming here and appreciate there isn't a crazy occupancy capacity happening right now. TAKE MY MONIES. *Just know you will have to sign a waiver the first time you initially go during COVID-19, because liability and lawsuits ya know...

So after trying out several different options, she clearly picked out karate, at Church's. I found this interesting, because the results after each session was a state of mind and behavior much different than what went with the grain of her being. A very calm, focused, determination that I had not yet seen in my daughter. It has now been a few months that she has been enrolled, and she shows a strong desire to continue, and looks forward to her "karate days". She is more focused in school, for her homework, in her home life, and in how she handles her interactions with me, and her sister. I highly recommend this amazing program, Master Jason is great with the kids, the times are perfect in coordinating with homework and after school time, and my kid has found an inner peace through the discipline that she was feeling lost with finding in other activities. Thanks Church's!
