I hired Ashyana to perform kitchen and bathroom remodeling in my condo in April 2018. I was…read moreimpressed by their references and had a week when I was out of town where they had full access to the apartment, which Mustafa Khaliqy assured me would be sufficient to do the work. The first day, they locked themselves out and had to destroy the doorknob to get back in. Three days in, the demolish was done but no work was done for the rest of the week. After I returned, I found the condo full of dust with no groundcloth laid down to contain it, and was forced to stay in a hotel a full three days additional. Inspecting the work, the countertops were misaligned to the wall and the standing shower was installed with a 6-inch concrete lift that forced me to raise the showerhead nearly to the ceiling. The kitchen tile wasn't even extended halfway under the sink! To his credit, Mustafa's team finished the tile and moved the showerhead. Still, the fit and finish were substandard. I discovered quickly that the shower grout was not sealed properly and several of the shower floor tiles came loose. Just a few years later, the condo below mine indicated that they have water leaking into their ceiling. The culprit is the drain pan installed in the shower; from the inspector: "The drain pan (Which is a basically a rubber liner) was not properly installed. The purpose of the the liner is to trap and water that seeps through the tile and divert it back in to the drain. In the access panel on the living room side you will be able to see that the rubber liner was cut and not glued properly at of the corners. This is causing the water to drip on the ceiling of the unit below. To repair this, the shower must be demolished completely and redone properly. Unfortunately, there is no way around this."

Unfortunately, Amilcar Benitez is a is no longer ethical and has turned to dishonesty and being quite shady. He painted our brand-new home in early 2020 at a cost of $10,000, which included every wall in the home as well as all the ceilings. Amilcar asked for the specific white color from Sherwin Williams that we wanted, and we gave him the information. I noticed that while they were painting the house, at the end of each day they left the grey paint for the walls on the job overnight (normal), but there was never any ceiling paint around while the crew was not here. On one of the days of the job, I dropped by while the crew was here and I noticed a 5-gallon bucket of paint that was not the correct white. I asked Amilcar about it and he assured me it was for the garage, which was also going to be painted white but we had not specified the color because who cares, it's just the garage. At the end of the job, Amilcar mentioned they couldn't finish all the last rounds of touchups, but they would be back after we finished moving in. Even though his contract stated the last payment was not due until the job was finished, he asked me to pay him the rest of the money. I wouldn't have paid him if I didn't know and trust him, but that was a mistake because he never sent anyone by to finish the job. In addition, within a few days, I noticed a lot of sloppy work had been done in the basement since it was painted last. The crew didn't protect the carpet, and there are several areas with a lot of paint that had been dropped. I contacted Amilcar a few times about this, but he did not return my calls. Fast forward 8 months later and the builder is fixing all the nail pops on the drywall, which is pretty standard and covered under their 1-year warranty. I went to the basement where Shalom placed all the leftover paint, and there was no ceiling paint which I thought was odd. Oh well, I still had a record of the paint color for the ceilings that I had sent to Amilcar so I went to Sherwin Williams and asked for gallon of the same color ceiling paint. After the builder touched up the ceiling paint all over the house, we noticed that the white color was completely different than what was already on there! I was stunned, but now it made sense why Amilcar and his crew had been so shady about not leaving us any leftover ceiling paint and why every day when they were leaving, they would take the ceiling paint with them. I called Amilcar about this and he stated it was probably a mistake and that he would look through his records and talk to his guys. This was in November and since then, I have called him multiple times, emailed, texted, everything. He has completely ghosted me, which further shows this was all done intentionally and he doesn't want to do anything to make it right. Unfortunately, now I have 6,0000 square feet of ceiling that looks really bad on all the spots that were touched up. Since Amilcar wasn't even nice enough to tell me which color they actually used, I have no way of matching it, so I am going to have to pay thousands of dollars to re-paint all the ceilings in the entire house. Mistakes are human, but anyone that is ethical would try to fix it. When they purposely are shady and don't offer to make things right, this is when you're better off avoiding this person at all costs!

They took great care to not damage other areas of the house and to keep the dust contained in the kitchen. They even cleaned up every night while working. Communication was great and payments were handled appropriately. From the time the cabinet order came in to NCK completing their part was 30 days. The counter subcontractor also finished within a week of getting the measurements. Where we went astray was with two subcontractors, one for the custom cabinet doors and the other the plumber needed to update a floor heat register. They were nightmares. Cabinet doors were not completed until January 2023. The plumber left the register install half completed and just returned to finish LAST WEEK. I don't fault the owner of NCK for the subs not meeting their obligations. However, due to his frustration at trying to deal with them, communication with me failed. Plus several times he suggested changing the scope of work or leaving the heater install incomplete in an effort to avoid having to deal with the subs any further. That said, when I asked for updates, NCK did respond and he did pay out of his pocket some additional costs involved in finally getting things completed. If these two subs have been dropped from NCK's work list, then all will go well with any future project NCK does. As noted, it's almost a year later and I am still pleased with the work NCK did and with the final outcome. I get a lot of complements from visitors to my home.

Every job he's done for us has gone beyond our expectations. He helped us tear down the panel walls and ceilings in a bedroom to get rid of a strong smell left by the previous owner, and then installed new drywall in both guest rooms. He worked efficiently, paid attention to details, and cleaned up everything thoroughly. We were so happy with the results that we asked him to install quarter round throughout the house, put in a bathroom door, and redo the floors in our powder room. He even helped with a few extra things just out of kindness. The backsplash he installed in our kitchen made such a difference. It completely brightened up the space and gave it a fresh, clean look. Giancarlo is not only skilled but also thoughtful and easy to work with. He listens, makes adjustments when needed. I'd highly recommend him to anyone looking for quality work and a trustworthy contractor.
