It took 4 minutes, it cost $15 (+tip), and now I legit have some pretty enviable brows. Brow maintenance is super important to someone like me who was not blessed with beauteous, dark, full brows. My brows are patchy, kinda grey and super pointy all over. I've basically got the brows of a fairy tale evil witch (a gross one... not Maleficent, because obvi that bitch's brows are to die for) and it's certainly something I'm always looking to offset. I'd been looking around the area for a brow place that might be able to help me tame my mess and I think I've finally found my place. It's small, it's anything but fancy, and their hours aren't the greatest if you've got a 9-5, but my gal did a magnificent job. I went in and instead of me just sitting down and letting the threader do whatever, I spoke up and told her exactly what my goal brow was and that I was working towards fuller, less patchy brows with an ultra clean shape. I don't think they would've asked what I wanted if I hadn't just outright told them, but I was also thinking that there was still about an 80% chance that my threader would just do whatever she felt like anyway so there really wasn't much to lose on my end. The end result: Exactly what I had asked for. My brows were basically the most perfect they've been in a looong time and I left feeling mostly human again, or at least less ogre. I'll definitely be going back every few weeks to keep up on the maintenance and make my brows less crazy evil witch and more, eccentric evil witch with maybe some good bone structure. read more

After reading the Yelp reviews & going by the majority of reviews, I thought this was going to be a good place. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!! She ripped off the skin under my brows and left hairs that I had to pluck out after I got home (see photo). The photo doesn't quite clearly show how nasty it looked. I made sure to use Neosporin on the raw skin to make it heal faster & prevent infection every day for the next few days. I've been getting my eyebrows threaded for years at Kash Fabrics & Threading Salon in Hayward and she has never done the kind of damage that this woman did. Save yourself the pain... go elsewhere for threading. Seems like this place isn't consistent. Unfortunately I didn't get the name of the girl who did my eyebrows but not really worth taking the chance that you'd end up getting the girl who did my brows. read more

I've never had threading done before so I was a bit apprehensive. Based on advice from Christina F., I called at whim on Saturday & was able to get an appointment ASAP. She moved, btw and raised her prices to $12. My brows are very light, and I've never bothered to really maintain them besides the random plucking here and there. She was able to create a shape for me in less than 15 minutes. Amazing. I wish I did a before & after picture. Like the others have mentioned, this is in her home (though she'll have a studio soon) and so if you're looking for frou-frou salon...this isn't it. Eyebrows and upper lip was $22. That is not worth the money because honestly, they didn't even do a great job. She only cleaned them up and she didn't even shape them. She left them bushy when I asked her to make it a little thinner. Also, I felt super rushed when I was the only person that was there. Service wasn't even that great. Completely unprofessional. I've been here at least 6 times (usually when I'm in a rush because it's close to my work) but I will not be coming back after this morning. She was on the phone and hula-hooping (um ... what?!) when I got in. After 2 minutes of doing my eyebrows, she said she was done. I was completely rushed, despite being the only customer there. I even had to remind the lady to trim my eyebrows after she said she was "done." She went back on her phone when she was running my card. She didn't even bother to look up at me. This is the first time I've ever declined to give a tip to anyone. That's how bad this lady was. I left this location infuriated. $22 for sub-par service and my eyebrows don't even look good. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. I can get the same services done for $17 at nicer places in Castro Valley or Dublin. read more

After months of not trusting anybody with my eyebrows because of a traumatic experience at another place where they nearly waxed my whole brow off, I finally decided that my brows needed to be fixed. They had a few missing hair patches and had absolutely no shape at all. Seeing how nervous I was, Bella talked me through the experience. All signs point toward the fact that I will be a horrible bride. And toward the wedding being a complete disaster. Luckily, I could not care any less. The wedding can (and probably will) be miserable, but the marriage will make up for it. Being a horrible bride-to-be, I have done little preparation for said future disastrous wedding. I received some bad news from home about a month ago, and my mental and physical state have been on a steady decline since then. I have also all but forgotten about the fact that in a week, I will be a married woman. A friend gave me a much needed reality check and told me I need to pull it together, and just get through this wedding. She then gave me a list of things I have to do. Step one: get my eyebrows done. I decided to try out threading, because I heard it was less painful than waxing. It is. I also heard it is faster. Correct. And better for sensitive skin. Definitely. I wasn't a bit red when I left. And cheaper. Yup. So thanks to Simor, I will at least have nicely shaped eyebrows for my disaster of a wedding. I will also have a lower self-esteem for it, because she nicely, but bluntly, told me I should also get my upper lip threaded. Since I declined, I guess I will also have a mustache for my wedding, though as close as I inspect my upper lip, I can't for the life of me seem to figure out what she could have threaded. My mother-in-law was in town and needed an emergency eyebrow fix. Of course, the first thing I did was look up Yelp to find out where the nearest top rated threading service was. Simor's name came up and I gave her a call. She was so kind and accommodating that she offered to meet us at her home (her studio in Belmont had closed for the day) within a couple of hours. I really appreciated her flexibility. Simor lives up to all the glowing reviews I've found here. My mother-in-law (who's been to gazillions of threaders in her lifetime) admired her threading technique (key is skilled, fast, painless) and was immediately at ease with her hospitable and approachable manner. I really wanted to like this place. I really did. The location is great, no problems even with the street parking. Three main grievances: 1. Biggest issue - my eyelids were cut. I'm not a threading rookie and I know the drill. Yes, I was long over due for my bi weekly thread and I was bracing myself for a more painful clean up, but this was plain painful. The woman was slow, and each movement was in slow motion. A good thread job is efficient, and this was not. 2. The chairs. So small. So uncomfortable. I'm 5'7 and had to slide way down (nearly off the chair) and distort my neck. It was was not very stable. 3. Finally, price was steep. 16 dollars plus tip, that's definitely one of the highest prices I've paid. Ever. Otherwise, lady was nice. Place was clean. You will know by my reviews that my eyebrows have had their share of adventures. I must however admit that I have been fortunate to find artists who exceed my expectations, and make me feel special! Amongst the several eyebrow threaders, I have met I like the lady here the most because she does a great job and very quickly. I got my eyebrows, upper lip and sideburns threaded in under 10 mins to perfection.All three areas require different abilities in terms of threading mainly because of the contours of one's face.But the lady here did such a great job, so quickly that I marvel at her skill and talent. And did I mention that it costs you only 28 dollars for all 3 together :) I liked reading their website and also liked the cleanliness and emphasis on maintaining a pleasant inviting deco. Most eyebrow threading centers are either too small or have very little to offer in terms of ambiance. I would highly recommend this studio for people who like efficient and excellent service. I love this place!! I called 15 minutes before closing and Simor tried fitting me in, but traffic had other plans for me. So I figured it was worth another attempt today. I called at 1pm and was in the chair getting threaded by 1:15... out the door by 1:20pm. Fast?! Well, you tell me!!! Simor was amazing. I had never had threading before and I am so going back for more. For the first time in my life, I wish my eyebrows would grow faster so I can go back sooner to have it done again. I give this place a firm 10 out of 5 stars, because Simor is exactly the type of woman I want to trust my lovely brows to. She is incredibly sweet, sincere and honest. Quick, easy, relatively painless and best of all, Simor actually listens to what you want. She's not like other eyebrow fixers who listen then do what they want to do anyway. Best ten bucks I've ever spent and I'll be returning in 21 days for another round of threading. If nothing else, you should go just to try it out. She even got a nice reclining chair to do her work on (much better than the stiff back one I had to sit in when I went to Deepa in Santa Clara). I purchased a deal on LivingSocial to visit RB's threading salon to have my eyebrows/lip done. The deal was fantastic and the service was excellent. This was my first experience with threading, so I will say it hurt a wee bit more than waxing only because instead of it ripping off with one swoop on waxing, she has to work across the brow with the threading. The shape is perfect and she was even able to leave a portion of my right eyebrow where I am trying to grow it out. I recommend this place as the parking is VERY easy, they are extremely nice and the brow shape I have is excellent. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Sat down and explained to the young woman that I'm growing my brows out and would like to keep the current thickness, and just want to clean up the stray hairs and get an overall hair trim as it's grown long. She proceeded to hack away at my brows, I could even tell while in the chair that she was taking too much off the bottom edges. Lo and behold upon inspection, she had indeed taken off at least 1/4 of my previous thickness, and the bottom edge of the left brow is completely jagged with two noticeable gaps. When I told her that she had taken off too much and that the left side bottom is jagged, she had the balls to reply "oh you want the edges to be even and smooth?" Um...no sh*t Sherlock! Who in the world would say to their brow aesthetician "you know what? The look I'd really like to go for is uneven and jagged, make that happen." The technician is clearly incompetent, and failed to listen to the customer request and now I am forced to relive the 90s over plucked look, except this time I have the privilege of paying $16 plus tip for this disaster. Which is the other thing, the price tag here is higher than SF, in the city I only pay $14. Bottom line: save your $, go somewhere else unless you're dying to overpay for the over plucked look. read more

I wish I had read through ALL the reviews more carefully before coming to this place, but I just went by "majority rules" and now regret not taking the time to be more thorough. So to those of you who have carefully groomed (or grown) your brows, think twice before coming here. Simor took off 1/2 of my left eyebrow, so it definitely looks uneven with the other eyebrow! When I was shocked and mourned the loss of my eyebrow, she tried penciling in an eyebrow. The lady has no artistic skill: Even when she tried drawing in the eyebrow, my eyebrows still looked uneven. Yes, I know I am a woman of very little eyebrow. I was keeping all those fine little baby hairs, so I could apply eyebrow mascara to extend them or use them as guidelines to draw in eyebrows. Now you have ripped them all out. She also left 3 bloody nicks under my brows, which took a few days to heal and scab up because that area under the eyebrows is so tender and delicate. I guess if you do not pull your own skin taut enough, it gets caught in the thread...ouch! Hmm, I did not know that I would have to participate so much in getting my eyebrows done. My mother and my sister also went to have threading with me that day. My mother also ended up with 2 cuts under her eyebrows. My sister, who went before me, had a series of raised white bumps on her upper lip and very irritated skin by her eyebrows after the threading process. Apparently, her skin was too sensitive and prone to acne breakout, which my sister did mention before the process. Fortunately, the irritation did subside by evening. Ugh, Simor recommended that she put olive oil on her skin (yeah, great idea...put oil on acne-prone skin) and gave her a clunky ice pack to use. After my sister and I suffered ill consequences, I'm not sure why we proceeded to let her to do my mom's eyebrows. Too shocked to protest? Ugh, stupid us. She went very conservative on my mother, saying she was an older woman, so she shouldn't have too much eyebrow removed. I think she only spent a few minutes on my mom, not doing much, and charged $18 for eyebrow shaping. Place is cash only. It is located on El Camino Real with an unimpressive storefront and surrounds (next door to some car place). Use Google Maps to have a look at the street view of the studio's address. Only one chair in the store. She does not cover you with a cape, cloth, towel, or paper towel to keep all the little hairs off you. You just have to brush them off yourself and get them out of your clothes. Felt kind of gross and unsanitary to me. Certainly not a luxurious spalike environment. As of August 2009, she raised prices, so it's $12 for eyebrow cleanup, $18 for eyebrow shaping, and $23 for eyebrow shaping + upper lip. $53 total for the three of us. Four other reviewers Cali L., Sophie S., A. W., and Mandy R. have also written that their eyebrows turned out uneven. Reviewer Mona B. also mentioned there was bleeding when she got home. Anyways, my point is read through the reviews carefully. By the way, this is the first time I have ever written a Yelp review. This threading experience was so traumatic that I felt impelled to write. Threading never, never again. Waxing I like much better, and its grooming seems to last longer than threading. I am utterly shocked how Bela (one of the owners)insulted me today. I went for chin and upperlip and there were cuts and blood all over. I asked her why she took the ones that were under skin and she said this is how she always does it. I said one of the other girls never takes those out and there is never a single cut. And she got testy and only asked to come when the other girl is in the shop. Shilpa has just changed her schedule and only comes on Saturdays which I cannot do so I told Bela that I cannot do that. Why don't you just leave the ones ubderskin untouched and she plainly refused and started to argue. I was shocked and said why are you talking like that and she said you don't tell me how to do business as I have been running it for a long time. She said I have a lot of customers and I don't need you. and it was a downhill from there. I buy packages (or used to) from them and And when I tried to point my name in the register, she pushed my hand and said I am going to rip your page from the register as I don't need you. She was literally screaming and asked me get out of her shop and slammed the door on my face. Her expression was like she wanted to hit me. My 4 yrs son who was with me got scared and said 'mommy, don't come here again. She will hurt you'. I am in a shock. Have been going there for a few years and this was a real eye opener. Am attaching the picture of my chin and I will attach another one tomorrow after all the scabs have formed on my face. There are ways to show displeasure but bullying a customer, never seen that before. So arrogant of her business like everyone is a fool. For God's sake it's just threading, not rocket science. Only go there if you are ready to be cut and yelled upon. There are so many places where they really take good care of your skin. These guys don't even clean your face or put moisturizer but still charge so much. On top of it you get served with bad attitude. read more

Just went to Karisma for the first time after reading the Yelp reviews and I will most definitely be going back and want to spread the word! I've been to a few different places for threading (Berkeley, Palo Alto, San Carlos) over the years, and this has been my best experience yet - the price was reasonable ($45 for full face and brows), the owner, Simor, was so incredibly nice and warm, she was quick, thorough and less painless than other places I've been. Most people are on schedules and would like to be able to go to a business when it's "supposedly open." I called no answer. Granted, I caught her without an appointment or calling ahead, 30 minutes before she was supposed to close on a Saturday. Granted, it appeared that she had been expecting another appointment that ended up being a no-show. But all I wanted was some eyebrow threading, and, inspired by Yelp, I was hoping for, at the very least, a friendly but efficient, capable job. I take that back -- I don't even need friendly, although it's always a bonus. Simor seemed more focused on getting me in and out. Barely any prep of my eyebrows, nor discussing what she was going to do (although she did ask if I had had my eyebrows threaded before, which I have). And it wasn't until I felt something land in my mouth that I remembered my thread artist considerately laying a tissue on my face the last time I got this done. Yeah, I don't generally associate "beauty treatments" with eyebrow hairs in my mouth. She finished without trimming my brows (which I had been looking forward to because I'm always afraid to do it myself), nor even wiping off my face or applying some lotion, or even putting the lean-back chair back to its full upright position. So I sort of brushed my face with my hand, handed over some cash so that she could lock up shop (with another 15 minutes or so before her actual closing time), and decided to call ahead next time.
