I absolutely love this place and Fara is a magician with Hair. I found her several years ago after I had a lady burn my hair with bleach. Fara saved my hair and has brought it back to health. Right now with Covid, she is working outside on her beautiful patio. There two spots where she can do hair. If it's hot she has a cooler place and if it's cold or raining, a warmer place! I don't know how others get bad results with this lady. She's perfect. The day before my graduation, I went to her for a haircut. I couldn't decide on a style, because while I love the side-part bangs, I have a strong hairline down the middle. I eventually gave her a few pictures, two with middle-parts and one with a side-part. She chose the side-part one on the basis that it would fit my face shape. When I explained the part problem, she dismissed it with a wave of her hand and customized the hairstyle to my convenience. When she heard I had a graduation the next day, she immediately invited us to come in the next day so she could style it. I accepted, and the next day, I came in. She styled it beautifully, and it held up through all 5 or 6 hours. It probably would've lasted longer if I hadn't showered. I definitely recommend her for everybody! read more

I received a phone call for a very big interview. Knowing that I wasn't pleased with my former salon and I needed a cut and highlights, I began researching salons on the internet. I read the reviews on YELP and decided to call Fara. Even though I had never been there, I only had a short time, and she had no openings, she worked me in. She cut my hair at one time and brought me back several hours later to do my highlights. She also didn't try to sell me the most expensive shampoo and conditioner that she had in stock. I absolutely love the cut and highlights. My hair is very hard to work with because it is fine and is thinning on top. Her cut made my hair look thick and it is very easy to style. Honestly - I am surprised that this salon has gotten so many A+ reviews, my hair turned out really really bad. Like, REALLY bad. Like, I came home and tried to convince myself it was ok, but then realized it looked like someone shat on my head so I cried to the BF and commemorated the moment with a photo album bad . . . it was baaad. I mean, I cried about it, it was that bad. Not only was it NOT what i asked for, but it was just done poorly - the color was WAY more soaked in on the bottom half of my hair than on the top, layers weren't done correctly, and the only way I could hide a large patch of black hair was to change my part. (not to mention, I didn't ask for black hair, I asked for Auburn low-lights.) Everyone is right about Fara, she is super nice, has a crazy back story, I definitely admire her for getting where she is today, but I don't know where these good reviews are coming from, maybe the clientele base is a totally different age group with totally different hair, or maybe a lot of these reviews are family friends. . . .I'm not sure . . . but my experience was no good. Don't get me wrong - Fara is extremely nice, made a point to fit me in, and, like other reviewers have said, she explained to me what would be the best for my hair in an effort to prevent damage. Unfortunately, I think it was this confidence in her taste/abilities that led to my hair turning out the way that it did. While I am all for a stylist that has a lot of experience, and "knows what is best for your hair," it can backfire when a stylist is so confident in her abilities that she ends up ignoring what you want, or making excuses when things don't turn out very good. I normally get very natural looking fine high/low lights - Fara's style is chunky - that's fine, I was down to try something new. She put in the color, I was thinking at the time the dye looked darker than I wanted, but she assured me it would be a rich auburn tone. While I was under the dryer waiting for my color to set, Fara got on a phone call, another client came in, her husband and dog came by, and a few other distractions - as all of this was happening, I noticed that a very dark black color started dripping onto my arm. I couldn't get her attention because, well, she was on the phone, and I'm not a rude person. When Fara finally came over and took off the foils, she got to the hair cut. It was ok. As it dried, I was like "WOW - my hair looks black" - and she said that it was darker than I expected because my hair was damaged (well somehow my normal stylist, Tiffany, manages to pull off amazing color creations, and shouldn't she have mentioned that/compensated for that if that was the case?) Honestly, to me, it felt a little bit like an excuse. Like, maybe she thought I was a dumb blond who didn't know a lot about hair, so she could talk me into thinking that it was my own hair's fault, or my previous stylist's fault. No way. Not the case. She said I needed to style it was in big waves (I have very straight hair and normally use a straightener just to smooth it out, but Fara didn't like that and said I needed to stop.) She also parted it on the other side to hide a dark black section, which, in my opinion, is a bad move - you never change a client's part without asking them. Style aside, the quality of the color job was poor - it was lighter on top. If you just looked at the crown of my head, that was basically what I wanted, but as you moved down it got totally uneven with an excess of dark color, and the ends looked pretty crack-whorish (as in, dark black and super light blond.) I mean, for someone who 'knows colors' I am surprised Fara chose the color palate that she did - I am not a cool toned person - ashy blond and blue-blacks look HORRIBLE on me - and that is exactly what she gave me. In Fara's defense, she offered to have me back to fix it, but i had to wait 2 weeks, and go to some important events with a pony tail. When I went back in, it was all excuses and blame, and even though she lightened the color, my hair was still uneven from root to tip. It took 2 sessions with Tiffany for my hair to look good again and for all the black to be gone. I felt bad because I had another appointment with her, and I was afraid to call and cancel, so I just disappeared off the map. That was probably bitchy of me, but honestly - Fara seemed to think that she knew everything about hair, about me, about what was best for me, and it was a little overbearing - I am sure if i had called she would have talked me into coming back, and that would have been a BIG mistake! read more

She then explained to me what would be the best for my hair so that I would not damage my hair. She blended my grown out roots with my previously highlighed hair perfectly. I'm not a big hair person. I kept my hair at waist-length starting in 8th grade. When I finally decided to cut it, I looked around online and found Creative Image, which was close to my house and impressed me with the many excellent reviews it had received. I was not disappointed. At my first appointment, Fara immediately understood she was dealing with someone who had very little experience with styling hair and that I was very nervous about chopping it off. She helped me prepare it appropriately so I could donate it and gave me a fantastic haircut. My boyfriend just smiled and said "you look so sophisticated" - a major compliment coming from him. More importantly she gives me haircuts that match me - never cutting it too short and always in a way that it looks fantastic styled or simply left alone, my default. Fara has given me 4 great cuts in a row . I can't report (yet) on her coloring skills, as I have never dyed my hair, but as far as her haircuts go, they are wonderful and I get comments all the time. Fara is everything you read in the many positive reviews - she is genuine and caring and serious about her work. She loves the interpersonal interactions with her clients and more than anything wants to make you a happier person, be it through a hair-related service or through interacting with her while she does her work. She is also very popular, as many of the reviews attest to, and gets phone calls from clients all the time. Her popularity can make scheduling slightly complicated at times. But the way I see it is that this is because we all want to get her service and therefore sometimes we have to be patient with each other since there are so many of us. Fara bends over backwards to accommodate all of us and our schedules as much as she possibly can, staying open extra-late when necessary and helpful with rescheduling you if a more convenient time for you comes up. But most of all, Fara goes above and beyond for her clients. And she creates sheer magic for them - as she did for me on my wedding day a few weeks ago. When I was getting my hair cut in preparation for my friend's wedding last summer, Fara was giving me some advice on updos, and while doing so, she said "if you ever get married, I would love to do your hairstyle". I took that to heart and, during my recent wedding preparations, I sought her out. She had meant 100% what she said. I got married in a non-traditional red dress with no veil. But I still wanted to look different and special and "like a bride". Based on some pictures from the internet and discussions with me, Fara came up with the best, most glamorous, hairstyle I've ever had and will probably ever have. She put my hair up with elegant twists and turns and with curls coming down everywhere and integrated spray roses and jasmine flowers by tucking and pinning them into the curl sculpture at the top of my head. Then she finished it off with some small red-rose pins I brought in. The result was stunning and the best I can do is include a few photos above, which don't start to do the hairstyle justice. Fara was very concerned about all the practicalities as well ie. how much time did I have on the morning of the wedding, when did I need to be done. She clearly knew what she was doing. Most importantly, I got married on a Sunday and she came in and opened her salon to me that morning even though she is closed on Sundays. I kept asking if she was sure she could do it because it was a Sunday and she just said "no problem, I'll schedule things around it, don't worry at all" etc. She was completely accommodating. She also agreed to shape my eyebrows - something that's not so easy given their bushiness and curliness. She did that better than I've ever had done before. Unlike most of my friends, who did a full practice run with their wedding stylist (and paid for it), Fara and I just discussed the general idea beforehand, so she'd have an idea how much time she would need, and then I simply let her do her thing. What I've learned about working with Fara is that I trust her and her abilities. And when you give her that trust and let her go at it, she is free to create her magic. The morning of my wedding she was very excited and had a vision of what she could create, and she went at it with amazing fervor. She also juggled in my maid of honor, who got a hairstyle of large soft curls that held the entire day. Fara also happily welcomed both my moms and pretty much let us take over her salon while she worked. It was a wonderful emotion-filled time and, truthfully, it was very much due to my transformation in her salon that I left feeling extra-elegant and ready to "be a bride". On top of all of that, as if it wasn't enough, her prices for the styling where very reasonable. In fact they were less than I had paid for bridesmaid styles in past weddings and this hairstyle was way above and beyond any of those. I didn't have as good of an experience here as others did. This is a very cute salon. I booked my haircut over my lunch hour on a weekday. I was the only customer there when I walked in. Fara greeted me right away, but immediately got removed as cable tv showed up. That took up to 15 mins. before she could even get started. My appointment for a haircut ended up taking 2 hours because of all the interruptions. Following the cable guy, it was the fence repairman. Each time, she had to leave me to tend to all these guys and show them stuff she wanted done. In the meantime, I'm sitting there waiting and waiting. Then on top of all that, she had personal phone calls come in that she had to take care of. After awhile it was getting pretty annoying. My haircut and style was nothing to speak of. I know she tried hard, like the other YELP reviewers, she did try to examine my hair and offer suggestions, but I don't think her style is as modern as other salons that I've been to. I asked for my thick hair to be thinned a bit and she said not to thin anything as it leaves it too spikey. Well, a good hairdressor should be able to thin thick wavy hair if they know what they're doing. My cut and style were okay. But needless to say, after two hours, I was anxious to get out of there. After a week of getting my haircut, it lost it's shape because of the weight on top. I couldn't even get my brush through it to style. I think Fara could be a very good stylist, but with all the interruptions it was a bit of a turnoff and I didn't walk away with a WOW feeling about my hair. read more

I found Fara on Yelp. I don't usually select hair stylists this way, but I was desperate and needed to find that combination of great stylist who can also handle color. My last stylist rocked at haircuts, but never got the color right. I read about 10 reviews for Fara and was amazed that her clients seemed to love her, I mean really love her. So, I held my breath and made a call. She answered the phone herself and took the appointment and calmed my nerves with her easy manner. I later learned that she always is there for her clients when they call. I've never had to leave her a message. Her storefront is immaculate. A great sign. And her salon is very welcoming. She has a few other stylists that rent space there, but it's never crowded or noisy, something I appreciate very much and didn't even realize I enjoyed until I left my old salon, which was always crowded and hectic. She gave me a consultation on my first visit, and was very patient as I asked many questions. I was most curious about her experience with color. She was trained with one of the best colorists in Los Angeles before she moved to the bay area. So, right from the outset, Fara had intense training in hair coloring as well as cutting and styling. I've seen her now for about a year. She is amazing. Always warm and inviting, and I always enjoy my visits with her. Her prices are low, too, and she keeps them low by not having any one sitting at the front desk all day answering calls, so just realize that when the phone rings, she will answer it. My old stylists would just push their calls to voicemail. I'd rather have lower prices and wait a few minutes for her to take calls (doesn't happen every time). As far as her color work, I've asked her to try several different shades on me, and we did settle down to the one that looks best on me. But, she makes suggestions for something new from time to time, and we continue to have fun trying new color, which is refreshing, because I don't want to get stuck in the same routine, and again this was something I never experienced with other stylists. And the cuts I've had are perfect. She knows I like long hair, so I get it trimmed every other visit, and for the summer, we went a little shorter. Fara still receives a 4 star rating for her friendliness but the fact is I want a great haircut (every time) without a guilt trip. After the first cut where she spent quite a bit of time on my hair I walked out thinking it was a better than average cut at a reasonable price. The three that followed fell short each time. The second cut came after she returned from out of town without any sleep and when I got home there didn't appear to be much cut off. Each cut thereafter got a little sloppy and uneven. On a positive note, she insists that you call if you are unhappy with your cut and she will fix it. I have to give her points there for customer service. But on a less positive note, I don't want anyone to lay a guilt trip on me for calling to schedule an appointment with less than 2 weeks notice. When she couldn't accomodate me I didn't push her. SHE decided to move someone around and squeeze me in but I had to get a lecture when I arrived about calling "last minute". I didn't appreciate that as a customer. read more

So I'm extremely skeptical about getting my long hair cut. I just moved to San Carlos and finding a hair stylist near where I live- that was open late, and could handle my type of hair- I thought would be pretty much impossible. My hair requires a dry cut in order for it to come out manageable when styling on my own. So I went to Fara. I have to say she's really a wonderful woman with allot of education behind her, and the 25 years of experience totally helps. What I most admired about her is the fact that the woman stayed open until MIDNIGHT to help ME out. Wonderful truly wonderful woman. Like most if not all yelp reviews written on her are true- she listens, and pays great attention to your needs. Not only that, but her husband and her are a great team, and VERY hospitable. If I hadn't already eaten dinner before my appointment, I would of eaten the 5 star looking salad offered to me. Yes, they offered to feed me- how cool right? I gave her three images to go off of- and she worked her magic. She's not pushy when it comes to selling hair product, just makes recommendations & explains how it would benefit my hair type & care rituals. Up recently, he rented a space in a salon in San Mateo. When that salon closed John moved his operation to Creative Image. What a difference! The owner of Creative Image, Fara, runs a comfortable and inviting shop; the space is light-filled and warm, the shop is spotless and the decor is homey and delightful. I feel comfy and at-home in Creative Image. John does a terrific job cutting and coloring my straight hair. Even better than his skilled scissor work is his reasonable prices, flexible schedule and great sense of humor. Well - maybe his humor isn't for everybody ... but he and I spend the appointment laughing at the world and its foibles. So my 4 year old gave herself a ridiculous haircut on a Monday morning, and guess what? Salons aren't open on Monday's!!!! But I checked out yelp and started calling the Salons with good reviews. Fara just happened to be in her salon, even thought it's a Monday and the salon was closed. I explained the situation and being the sweetheart that she is, she said, "I can't tell you no. After many years of occassionaly getting a good haircut from my hairstylist I was ready to make a break. After months of growing out my hair I was desperate for a new style and a new hairstylist. I was willing to make an appointment with any stylist that had an opening. Fara at Creative Image Hair Salon agreed to see me. After a consultation, she refused to cut my hair. She told me that due to the growth pattern of my hair and shape of my head I would need to let my hair grow longer (for a couple of more months!) in order to achieve the look I wanted. I was stunned. I wanted so much to have my hair cut, but she told me that I'd be unhappy with the results. I was amazed that Fara had the honesty and integrity to turn me down when I would've paid any price to have my hair cut. I waited three months, went back to Fara and was thrilled with my new cut. I finally got the look I wanted and I always get compliments. I will not go to anyone else. When first looking for a salon, I was alarmed by some of the reviews only to find out that yelp is not displaying 39 other reviews this salon has. I am surprised at the low star reviews. Sometimes customers don't understand a stylist can only do so much with damaged hair. Most of the time it is not the stylist's fault, the customers hair just does not take in the color correctly or it needs to be shorter than desired because of damaged ends. Also, I read in one review a woman stated she is not a certified hair stylist. I am not sure why she assumed this. Fara owns the salon and all has the appropriate certifications to cut and color hair displayed by her work station. This salons is located on laurel street. The outside is adorable and the inside is amazing. I can tell the owner Fara jas taken her time to give her salon a five star look and feel. I came to Fara with dry and damaged hair from years of box dying and straightening. I explained to Fara that I wanted healthier hair but still wanted to keep my hair blonde. Fara then explained how she was going to color my hair using a low damage treatment. I also told her I wanted a layered full look. Fara was amazing. She listened to each of my requests and explained how she was going to achieve the look I was going for. My hair has never looked better. I felt as if she really cared about my hair. I felt like a valued customer. I could tell she gives 100% into her work. She highlighted my hair which gave me a natural blonde tone. She cut off my dead dyed hair without chopping too much off and she was able to layer my hair without thinning it out. After she cut my hair, she styled it and helped me pick out products that would make my hair thicker and healthier. I have used the products for several months and I have noticed a huge difference in my hair! I am so thankful to have found Fara. I will definitely be a returning and long term customer. read more

Fara is a wonder woman with an extraordinary ability to work well with all types of hair and to truly listen to the needs of her clients. As a superb stylist, she gives a great cut and is a master with color. Fara takes enormous pride in her work and is lovely to be around. She treats everyone with the warmth and respect of a treasured friend. Her appointment schedule runs on time, which is especially important to me. I have been going to see Patty for 5 years now and she does a great job. When I went in my hair was thin and limp and way too long and out of style. Patty worked with me and we shorten it and did some gradual color changes while she helped me get my hair back into shape. Now my hair is thick, shiny and healthy and my color is great. Patty does an amazing job with color and hightights. We just started adding lowlights as something new and I love it. Give her a try. You'll never go back to your old stylist. read more

Many of the reviews of Creative Image are from one-time experiences and also from women. I'm a guy, and I've had Fara cut my hair for over 15 years, so I have a different perspective. What's important to me is a reliably great cut - I don't want to look different every time. I previously had good stylists, but noone provided consistently great haircuts. It may take a couple of visits to totally understand your hair, but once she does, it looks the way you want it every time. (OK, maybe once or twice out of 150 cuts it was't perfect, but I doubt anyone but me noticed). Yes, her schedule is packed, so plan on scheduling your next appointment before you leave. If you do have to reschedule, she does her best to accomodate, but be reasonable folks, there's only so much flexibility in a full schedule. On the personal side, as so many have mentioned, Fara is a delightful person. Hopefully you'll be as pleased as I have been over the years. read more

Each time I come here it's always an experience. From the moment I walk into this beautiful salon to the moment I get a warming kind "see you next time" there is an essence of the pampered life every woman would dream. Fara's salon is always clean and welcoming. Today I wasn't getting my usual trim though, I was seeing the other beautiful woman, Bahar, that not only has been threading my eyebrows to perfection but now does..yes... you guessed it, EYELASH EXTENTIONS . Me, having very almond shape eyes, was overjoyed to learn that Bahar now does eyelashes. She first layed me down on a very comfortable bed with pillow and blanket. She was very gentle and knew exactly what she was doing. I told her I wanted them to look natural but noticeable. As I lied there while Bahar started her magic, I fell asleep to her sultry music. Not even noticing or feeling her do her work, I got to take a nice well deserved nap and woke up to another person staring back at me in the mirror. Who is this person?! This beautiful long lashed woman?!? I was shocked, I looked over at Bahar and said aloud: "YOU did this?!" She smiled wide and nodded and asked if they looked good. I said of course they look good I don't even need to wear makeup! Bahar's stunning work had literally transformed the shape of my eyes. They looked bigger, wider, brighter. This salon had made my dreams come true! I can get 3 things done at once now, not only do I get my hair cut by Fara and my eyebrows threaded by Bahar, buy now I no longer have to hunt down the perfect eyelash extentionist because she has been here the whole time. I will start off by saying I am so glad I found this place. I have been looking for someone to do my eyebrows since I moved up here everywhere I went nobody did threading only waxing. I finally found this salon and bahar did such an amazing job with my eyebrows I was extremely happy when I walked out she actually fix them. I also have a consultation with Fara for a hairstyle she listened to every word that I said and gave me my hairstyle exactly the way I asked her she was very polite and very helpful I will most definitely be going back I have finally found my hairstylist and my eyebrow threading lady super excited. read more

After years of trimming my own hair because I was tired of trying to have it done, only to end up unhappy and out-of-pocket, a friend recommended Fara at Creative Images. I am now hooked! Fara has the rare gift of being able to look at your face and determine what hair style will be the most flattering. She was very respectful of my fears, and really listened to me, taking less off in the first cutting than she knew was most flattering, because she knew I needed that. Now I trust her completely and the comments from close friends as well as people I only know slightly support my assessment. Going to Fara was like getting a makeover! Fara is consistent, so you never have to worry about her having an off day; you always leave feeling prettier than when you walked in. As a woman in my mid 50's, this is a real treat. I have been going to Fara for years to cut and color my hair. She is an incredible master at doing highlights-- I always appreciate her perfectionism and get many compliments on my hair. I would also like to commend Fara on styling my short hair for my wedding. I had never gotten my hair done and did not know what to do with my short hair to make it special for my wedding. Fara found time to experiment with my hair a week before my wedding and despite my last minute booking, she went above and beyond to move her clients around and do my hair the morning of my wedding day. It was wonderful to start my wedding day with her and my hair has never looked so good! She designed my hairstyle with love and made it prefect-- better than anything I could have imagined!
