if you're looking for a great workout, a workout that uses your brain and your bod, and a way to…read moreremove stress, this is the best place to do so. this is a traditional Shito Ryu Karate studio where you will be required to learn the history of karate and Japanese terminology. Sensie Sherry is an excellent instructor who genuinely cares about the health and well-being of her students. she understands that people age and may not be "kids" anymore. she will push as much as she can to get the best out you. her classes are fun and challenging. I can't really speak to her work with children because I don't have any, but I do know that parents love her. what I've seen is that she is "real" with kids and tough on them. she is also very maternal with all the kids. she trains champions and takes pride in the accomplishments of her students. she will toughen up your kid, teach them discipline, respect, and how to be gracious. it's a different dojo because it's run by a women. I've found that other dojos can be a little too testosterone driven for me. So this one was refreshing. this dojo is not going to make you an MMA fighter but it's going to make you stronger, more able to defend yourself and give you a strong feeling of accomplishment. highly recommended.

Kept saying sorry and that he was following the rules, yet I did not see a sign stating I could not enter and he saw me reading the note and taking off my boots before entering. Not a place I want to learn from. To think that today was the last day and I was about to join. I spent the three days making sure I can fit it into my schedule to be turned off.

My son, Tristan, has been attending karate since he was a Tiny Tiger at just four years old, and he…read morehas continued his journey as a youth member. Throughout the years, his instructors have had an incredible and lasting impact on his growth, confidence, and character. Master DLC has helped mold Tristan into a stronger and more resilient young man--something he truly needed. He is firm yet kind, and his encouragement and motivation have helped Tristan push himself beyond his comfort zone. Mr. Lee is always a pleasure to be around. His positive energy and ability to motivate the kids while keeping things fun create an environment where they genuinely enjoy learning and growing. However, I would like to give a very special and heartfelt thank-you to Mr. Felarca, who is Tristan's personal trainer. When I informed him that Tristan had been experiencing bullying at school, he immediately reassured me that he would help Tristan learn effective anti-bullying techniques and, more importantly, how to handle those situations with confidence and self-control. Everything Mr. Felarca has taught Tristan has been admirable. The words and responses he taught Tristan to use when confronted by a bully were thoughtful and appropriate. The defensive techniques he taught him were equally valuable. Most importantly, he emphasized that Tristan should never throw the first punch, but should always be prepared to protect and defend himself if necessary. As a parent, knowing that Tristan has instructors who care not only about his martial arts skills but also about his character, confidence, and well-being means so much to me. A very special shout-out and sincere gratitude to Master Convento for bringing together such an exceptional group of instructors. Their dedication, encouragement, and positive influence have truly made a difference in my son's life. I am incredibly grateful for everything they have done and continue to do for Tristan.

I cannot say enough about how wonderful Sensei Frank and all the staff/instructors at Practical…read moreKarate are. This is a great place for martial arts, especially if your child has anxiety. I have a highly anxious preteen daughter, who was very apprehensive about martial arts. Sensei Frank listened to my concerns, and our daughter started with one week of Spring Break camp, and completed two weeks of summer camp at the dojo. To see her blossom after just days of camp has been nothing short of amazing. Sensei Frank has a curriculum for kids to earn their belt stripes, and starts with very achievable goals which builds their confidence to keep trying and striving. I highly recommend this dojo!

They had a try one class free so I completed the form on the site but never heard back. I ended up calling to find out if we could drop in to any class or if we needed to let them know in advance. The answer was just let them know when we wanted to drop on (and apparently there was an issue with the website not processing the sign up for a free class properly). When we came to class we were greeter by the owner Frank, who was super nice and had us review the consent forms and other paperwork. They have a small lobby with a TV so you can see what is going on in class but it is also a suite with a large roller door on the back so you can go around back to watch class (if you like). We decided to sign our child up and they were given a uniform and belt same day. We got an email with the tasks for completion to get stripes and earn the next belt. Kids are allowed to stripe test at the end of class. The studio is clean, staff are friendly and helpful and it seems to be a community feel (I don't go super often, I am the one to take my kid to dance). They have summer camp (and camps over break-we haven't attended one yet) as options as well. Overall a very positive experience and an activity my child enjoys doing!

Our daughter (7 years old) has been training at this martial arts school for over a year now, and I…read morecan honestly say it has been one of the most meaningful experiences of her childhood so far. When we first enrolled her, it was simply to introduce a new form of exercise and help build her confidence. But what we discovered was so much more than just a class--it became a place where she grew, matured, and found something she truly loves. From the very beginning, I noticed how happy she was every time she stepped onto the mat. Watching her focus so intensely during class and seeing how proud she was of her progress made my heart full. Her confidence has grown in ways I never expected, and the joy she brings home--even practicing on her own--shows how deeply this has resonated with her. One of the things that stands out the most is the incredible consistency and structure the dojo maintains. The principal and the foundation of this dojo are grounded in expectations that are strict, but completely reasonable. Students are expected to come prepared, stay focused, practice, and give their best. And what's remarkable is how the instructors carry that same tone throughout every session--firm, supportive, and unwavering in their commitment to holding each student accountable. This level of structure has helped our daughter thrive, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. Each Sensei is compassionate, attentive, and truly invested in each child. They all make sure each student receives equal attention, no matter their pace or personality. I love not only rooting for my own daughter but finding myself cheering for every child in the room. You can actually see them growing--not just in technique, but in kindness, courage, and respect for one another. What moves me the most is the culture Freestyle Martial Art has created. Yes, the kids compete with each other sometimes, but afterward they show such kindness and encouragement. They lift each other up. They celebrate each other's wins. They comfort each other's frustrations. That kind of environment isn't an accident--it's a direct reflection of the teaching, leadership, and values here. We are incredibly grateful for the impact this school has had on our daughter. Her confidence, her focus, her discipline, and her sense of pride have all blossomed because of this place. Watching her progress under such exceptional guidance has been a gift, and we look forward to seeing her continue to grow in this amazing community. If you're looking for a martial arts school that teaches more than just technique--one that shapes character, builds confidence, and creates a truly supportive culture--this is the place.
