My daughter loves Karate! She is learning self defense and how to be a great citizen in society in general in a fun and engaging way!

Our daughter has been taking martial art lessons here since she was five years old and our whole…read morefamily is in absolute adoration with this family-owned school. They genuinely balance respect, honest feedback and positive reinforcement to teach people of all ages. While kids learn the art of taekwondo, there is a huge emphasis on self-awareness, self-defense and personal discipline. Each teacher has a unique style and impressive approach to meet students where their skill level is and effectively guide them through graduated challenges that make them step out of their comfort zone, all the while, building their confidence and core strength. The leadership is a healthy mix of tough love, encouragement, motivation and support. While they were at a larger studio, they would hold huge events where students could bring a friend to enjoy things like Halloween Haunted House and ninja nerf wars. They also have fun activities like parents night out where they host young kids and tweens in an activity-filled night to allow parents a few hours of solitude on evening like Valentine's Day. Other events they encourage kids to attend are martial art tournaments, community events and so much more. There are so many great things about this school, that I could write a few more paragraphs about them. I highly recommend this amazing family-owned and operated martial arts school to anyone looking to hone an art form, fine-tune respect for others, build defense skills, boost self-confidence or have the desire to one day call themselves a black belt. Do not snooze on the sparkling hidden gem of Escondido, Eldred School of Martial Arts.

I wholeheartedly recommend Orion martial arts. Master Laura runs a tight ship with her classes but…read moreis very flexible with respect to scheduling for the parents. Our boys started in the special needs class and then moved into the mainstream classes after a few years. Our daughter joined as well and even achieved her black belt. It was an amazing experience for all 3 of them. They learned discipline and hard work but never felt intimidated in the classes. The instructors are all professional and helpful. I can honestly say that it was a healthy and productive environment for all of the students.

So it's a nice enough facility, and the owner is legit and also very nice. That being said, they…read moreare geared to the small kids, like 5-7 at most. My daughter first discovered karate and this school at someone's birthday party, and wanted to join. She was almost 9 at the time. We gave it a year but here's our takeaways: 1) classes aren't enough about promotions. Advancing colored belts and stripes require certain skills and to perform those skills in front of the master. But little to no time in a given class is spent on those skills. They play. They have fun. They run around. Maybe 5 minutes per 40 Minute session is spent on promotable skills. And if your child dare take a test and fail, no help is given to improve, and retesting is like pulling teeth. (Note as we were leaving they changed testing to only once a month on a day we couldn't attend, so was our final straw for leaving the school). 2) membership is flexible, you pay one fee per month and go whenever you want. Which is kind of nice, but it makes class sizes fluctuate wildly from as few as 5 participants to as many as 40. And larger classes rarely have more than one instructor. Leading to organized chaos and back to point 1, No skills being taught or learned. 3) we joined because our daughter was being bullied at high tech (whole other story there, don't go!) and wanted to feel like she could defend herself, mostly against boys who were physically abusive. Maybe it comes later but self defense and acts which build confidence, in my opinion, weren't touched in an entire year of classes. Luckily we moved her to a new SMUSD school which actually had anti-bullying policies, and the problem went away. 4) on the bullying, it happens here too. Little cliques of 5, 6 or 7 year olds who have their purple belts, feel emboldened to pick on, trick, etc white belts. Those with stripes belittle those without, and the cycle continues for every step up. Would expect more from a karate studio. Probably related to a lack of supervision as noted in #2. 5) business is run like it's 1980. No online portal, no way to pay bills easily or setup recurring payments. Invoices are an envelope with an amount, receipts when given are handwritten and vague, cards are charged 3% convenience fee (even debit). School tries to host events, but unless you get the right flyer the right day you have no idea. No online presence, no socials, etc. Conclusion, if you have a 4-5 year old boy, and you want to go 5 times a week for cheap, and don't need a business with an online presence, this might be a good fit for you. Not really a good fit for anyone else if you ask me.

We absolutely loved this place my son and I did a free trial…read more There is no way i could afford the price unfortunately. For myself and my son we were offered unlimited classes and quoted $340. I almost cried that's more than I paid a month for my car payment. I know some families are well off financially but I have a lot of student debt and two kids to support and feed. I would love to be a part of the BJJ family unfortunately I'm still not financially stable enough to fit this in our budget. I feel sad because people like me and my son still need places like this number one to learn self defense and protection. Number two low socioeconomic individuals from all backgrounds can benefit from these services as well. I get it though businesses are for profit and money not always for people and the life changing impact they can provide. I was in a domestic violence relationship and me and my sons still have a lot of fear but I'd love for us to learn how to better protect ourselves and feel a little safer. I am in the military and work my ass off for my kids and this country but I still feel sad that I can't afford this place. I absolutely loved it. I grew up with no money raised by a single mother of four kids. Im trying my best to provide for my kids future i can't afford the price tag.

If you want go get a great yoga workout even if normal yoga classes make you hurt try this place!…read more I love this yoga studio! I took classes two or three times a week over half my pregnancy. I didn't just attend the prenatal classes but also all the classes I physically felt capable of. I 100% believe the classes helped to prepare my body for labor. Yoga teaches mental and physical resilience and A Gentle Way Yoga does this. When I recommend this studio to other people I call it "old people yoga" since the main clientele is older. But I loved that! It's not a place to compete or show case your latest active wear. It's a comfortable welcoming place! I always got a great workout and felt amazing after class. I love, love, LOVE that the instructors teach the modifications for every yoga pose! Not everyone has the physicality to complete every yoga pose exactly...cough, cough...me! At other yoga studios I would be made to feel inadequate, strained, dismissed and uncomfortable when I couldn't do a movement. I think that's why a lot of people give up on yoga. At A Gentle Way yoga they teach you how to get a great yoga workout even if you have physical limitations. They don't make you feel like a failure if your body says no to a particular movement. They work with you to get the most from you body. Before you know it you are actually getting better and not needing to modify at all!

I recently went to my first class at AGW…read more I have to admit I was a bit hesitant because of the apparent focus on students with health challenges...and I'm of normal weight, just looking for a relaxing/renewing experience. I was concerned that I might be out of place. An unfounded concern... I took advantage of the $8 December special and was happy I did. The instructor, Carolyn, was very warm and welcoming and designed the class to fit the needs of the students. I'll wait to attend a few more classes before considering a 5-star rating, but I must say I really liked the vibe of this small studio and OH MY what a huge selection of props to choose from! This is wonderful considering the focus on gentle / restorative / meditative yoga. The only small distraction (for me) is that the parking lot is shared with an emergency pet clinic and if you are a pet owner it can be a little upsetting at times. :( I really like the cozy, intimate environment of A Gentle Way...so many little things are considered in the cubbies, the restrooms and throughout.
