All the seating inside were Bistro stools and when you reach a certain age or certain weight or both, Bistro stools are not comfortable or safe. There was a picnic table out in the back, and that was fine, except there is no shade. Second, the do not serve food before 5:30 pm. They open at 4 pm. Our group ordered food from outside and had it delivered to the picnic table. Third, service was non existent. There was a bartender and we could get drinks. The place could use sprucing up. The floor was concrete and cracked and worn it was if they put a bunch of games in an old building. It was not an inviting atmosphere. A pool table would have improved the place slightly, but not enough to make a return trip.

Of the 5 places we stopped at, Sammy's was the only one that I had not previously been to. It is also the only stop that I see myself not returning too. The joint is pretty small with a long wooden bar and the atmosphere is old school neighborhood dive bar. Equally as small was the hospitality from the lady behind the bar. We seemed to be interrupting her Candy Crush game or Facebook scrolling and she was in no mood for small talk, friendliness or any form of positive customer interaction that one expects when entering a watering hole. We ended up taking our beers outside to their less than spectacular patio, and left as soon as we could for a very cool experience 2 blocks north at the Colonial Club.

I went to a Yelp Elite event at Fowling Warehouse in Kansas City on Cinco de Mayo, and I'm really…read moreglad I got to experience it. For the event, food was catered in with a nacho bar from Jose Pepper's, and we were given a complimentary cocktail along with the chance to play a game of fowling. Fowling is basically bowling with a football, but instead of a regular football, we used more of a Nerf-style, squeezy football. It sounds simple until you actually try it. Even when your aim feels spot on, the ball can bounce, shift, and completely miss the target. It was a lot of fun and honestly a better workout than I expected. I was surprised my arm was not sore afterward because there is definitely some movement involved. The space is great for groups, parties, team building, and people who enjoy active social games. The staff and setup made the event feel easy and welcoming, and I had a wonderful time. That said, I'll be honest: this is not really my personal bag. I could definitely see myself coming back for a kid, pre-teen, or teenager's birthday party, or maybe enjoying it more if there were an outdoor option where I could get a little sunshine while playing. All in all, it was a wonderful experience, and I'm glad I went. I had fun, I tried something new, and now I can officially say I've been fowling. Would I need to do it again in life? Honestly, probably not. But would I recommend it for the right group or occasion? Absolutely.

I've been a few times on Saturday afternoons and so far haven't had any trouble getting in. The bar is very tiny there are seats for 9 and a standing capacity for about 30. The bartender was cheerful and the other customers pleasant. As a bar, it's pretty typical of what you'd expect of a downtown dive in a smaller town. The building's interior is stunning -- the building is about a century old (perhaps older) and much of the interior is still the original. It's very beautiful in a rustic way.
