The Velcro fasteners on the heel straps of my wife's shoes would pull apart after five minutes of walking. (SAS shoes should have just designed the shoes with one-piece heel straps; there was no need for two parts joined with Velcro.) Ray's Shoe Repair did a great job permanently stitching the two straps together. This saved us from having to pitch relatively new, otherwise nice shoes. Friendly, reasonably priced, quality work. Truly a master. I have an old pair of motorcycle boots that are not manufactured anymore. Every now and then something will fail. A stitch, a zipper, sole.. Ray keeps these old boots on the road far longer than they would be otherwise. And his prices are low. I feel guilty every time I pay my ticket. He would not let me pay more. My 2 grandsons received MCM belts that needed to be shortened so they could wear them tomorrow on New Year's Eve. I called and asked if there was any way they could be done today and was told to come in asap, which we did. Oh my goodness, we were in and out in less than half an hour and both belts were shortened. Ray was knowledgeable, great personality, and his prices appear to be pre-inflation prices, very reasonable. Wonderful place! And not just for shoes. He'll sew anything that requires stitching through heavy fabric or leather, and can fit in his large sewing machine. But call ahead, this is a hobby business and he might be out. And force him to charge you! I dropped a hunting boot off for my husband and Ray said he could fix and make it last for another hunting season and that he would have it ready in 2 weeks. I thought it was a rather long time for some stitching that needled to be done on the back. Pickup day arrived and we called in to make sure it was ready. Ray told us it would be ready in 3 hours. My husband went in after 3ish hours. Ray had not even worked on the boot!! He then started seeing right in front of him and stitched half of the opening in between helping other people who came in. He kept telling him that he needed to help the other customers and didn't put any priority on my husband even though we had been waiting so long in his boot. He finally got to stitching half way and stopped and told my husband he couldn't fix it. He then tried convincing my husband that he doesn't need intense hunting boots like those in Utah!! He tried justifying his lack of attention, his procrastination, and possibly his over booking by not finishing what he had originally told me he would do by telling him he didn't need the boots. It was a couple days before we needed to leave for the hunt! I was incredibly upset when I found out had happened. The boot is half fixed well. We will not be going back. read more

I just can't say enough good things. I had them resole a pair of moccasins, he did them very quickly and for a great price, half of what I paid for the previous job and the quality of the work with Ray's was far superior. I then brought him a pair of sandals with the soles falling off, all precious repair shops just glued them together, which would work for about a month. But at Rays I was told that gluing wouldn't work because it was oil tanned leather and the soles were not salvageable. He removed the soles and sewed (instead of glued) a new layer below then leather so that the glued sole would stick. All previous shops either didn't care enough to do things right or didn't know enough to do it right. But at Rays they know and they care. I was amazed at the prices on both jobs he did for me and at the quality of work. I could not be happier. If you have leather that needs repair you can't go wrong here. read more

Ray's Shoe Repair shop is a little small, a little dark, a little messy, and you might miss it walking by if you don't look for it carefully, but a whole lot of shoes gets transformed from beast to beauty in this magical shop. Located next to the Kaysville theatre on Main St, the one-person shop is run by Randy, son of the original owner, Ray. Lighthearted and with a good sense of humor, Randy is always ready to greet each and every pair of shoes (and customers) with a welcome smile and a warm comment. So far I've taken in 3 pairs of shoes. One pair needed a new sole, two pairs needed new heels. They were all pretty worn so I wasn't sure how much good it would do to get them repaired. But I was in a time crunch packing for a trip and didn't have time to shop for new shoes, so I gave it a shot. Not only was it a small price to pay (averaged about $5 per pair), they were ready to go in 2 days time, cleaned and shined, just in time to come along for the trip. The sole and the heels were sturdier than the original, just the right thickness and trimmed to fit perfectly. I would have never guessed they were a replacement if I didn't know. This place has the feel of a small town shop. Good craftmanship, great price, and a short turnaround time. With the bad economy and the rising cost of everything, I would definitely consider getting my shoes repaired more frequently. It's standing room only, and barely that... In this store. There are shoes everywhere, but apparently it's "organized chaos", because the owner always knows where everything is. He hasn't lost a pair of my shoes yet! I've tried a lot of his services, and I'm a very satisfied customer. He's re-soled, and re-heeled many of my boots, and sandals. Who wouldn't love to have the life of their favorite shoes prolonged?! This can, & does happen at Ray's. Most recently, I took in my favorite pair of Charles David leather knee high boots to be fixed. I love this footwear just as much today, as I did when I purchased them years ago. But alas, the zipper broke. And I was a dummy. I tried to super glue the zipper teeth together. Didn't work. I took them to Randy (owner & proprietor) & he chastised me, in a good natured way. He told me that I turned a free fix, in to a $40 one! Oops! You live, you learn. I won't be doing anymore DIY repairs on my shoes in the future. Anyway, it took Randy a couple weeks to replace my zipper. First: the supplier sent the wrong size zipper. Then, Randy went on vacation. And finally, he took my boots home over a weekend; and accidentally left them there! But eventually, they were fixed, and the job was so well-done that you cannot even tell the zipper is a replacement. Also, Randy knocked $10 off my final price, because I had to wait so long. I really appreciated that. Honestly, though, I would have waited even longer, and paid a lot more to have my boots fixed. The discount he gave me, & the beautiful completed job are certainly 5-star worthy! read more

With regret and sadness, my son threw out his favorite soft rough out leather ankle boots purchased a few years ago on a roadside in Portugal. They were completely worn out, and part of the cardboard construction was showing through. As a long shot I snuck them out of the garbage and looked for a shoe repair store. I brought them to Ray, who told me that he could try to repair them but that because they were so worn out and cheaply made, they might end up stiff. A week or so later, I went to pick them up and they were perfect! Almost like brand new. They had a great sturdy new sole, and although the toe box felt a little stiff, when my son opened them on Christmas he almost cried. The repair price was around a 120 dollars, but after researching similar boots online I saved nearly 300.00 by repairing them and not purchasing new ones. Several weeks ago I needed a fast repair on the heel of my tap shoes. I am in a tap dancing company and I also teach tap twice a week, so I needed a repair same day. This place is great! It just oozes craftsmanship, and the guy who runs the place is very friendly and helpful. I took my (15 year old, but still great looking) walking shoes in to see if the soles could be replaced. He told me that it wasn't worth it. He could fix them, and would be happy to take my money, but he felt I'd be better off buying new ones and even told me the names of a few stores to find good replacements. How's that for honesty! You rarely see that in a store. If I ever need any more repairs this is the place I'll be going! read more

Don't go here for dance shoes to be resoled. He doesn't know what he is talking about. The soles he wanted to put on my dance shoes had too much tread, and he said it was impossible to bevel them. Randy debated me as to what I needed, then didn't have my dance shoes done when I went to pick them up! Dancers who get their dance shoes soled here will risk injury to their ankles or knees if they try any kind of turns in any dance form. The best place for dance shoes to be resoled is Master Craft Shoes, 185 North Hwy 89, North Salt Lake, UT. 801.294.9343. Took my favorite boots to get resoled and he told me that he could do nothing for them. Then told me I should just throw them away. He was rather unpleasant to talk to. So, I did a little more hunting around and found someone who took a look at them and said he would do his best to fix them; he did!
