Read this review! First of all, I am not totally ignorant when it comes to jewelry, but I was totally taken advantage of at Ray's Jewelry Repair. I had previously brought in a watch for a new battery and the old battery was so old that it leaked a bit. It had to be cleaned and a new battery installed. That repair was $200 cash as he does not accept credit cards. At that time, I felt it was a bit steep, but not so steep that I did return for another repair. I brought in a 14k white gold ring that had I broken in a fall, it was basically missing the band part of the ring. The band was NOT a wide band. I took that ring in at the end of 09/24. I finally called Ray in Feb or March 2025, as I had not heard from him. I asked about the repair and was told he had not worked on it and that he would call back with a quote. I did not hear back, so I called back again and I was asked about sizing. I called back with the size and was told I would get a call about the price. Finally, I got a call a couple of weeks later and was told the ring was ready. I asked him about the price as he had not called me to get an OK to proceed. Oh, he was sorry and the cost was $340. $340 to attach a new band! I told him it would be a while as I don't readily have that kind of cash sitting around. He did offer after calling me back to let me make payments. Payments for a ring that didn't even cost me $200 and for a repair that I never authorized. He then offered to drop the price to $280. This job was worth approximately $150 after consulting with two other repair shops. The final outcome/price was $240. Oh, he did offer to take the ring apart again, wish I had done that. Have been using Ray's Jewelers for about 5 years. There's a grandmother type behind the counter, usually very polite and fun. This time, Ray (young), was behind the counter. Brought in a watch that wasn't working and an earring that needed a backing replacement. (I had broken it off). Ray told me he would call me in 2 weeks, when it was ready. After 2 weeks, he had not called and called him. Got grandma, who put me on hold, then told me Ray was in the back and would call me back. He did not call me back, so I called again and got the message machine. Called again the next morning, since there was no return call. (I was going on vacation and really wanted the earrings to wear.) Called again and said I was on my way to the shop, but please call me before 1PM if the items were not ready. At 1:30, with no return call, I drove to the shop. After two weeks, Ray had put the battery in my watch and was working on the earrings?! So I paid for the watch, then came back 2 days later to pick up the earrings. There is nothing wrong with their work or pricing, but young Ray needs to call back customers if he wants to keep them and do his repairs in a timely manner. Doubt if I would ever go there again; sorry grandma, but you need to train your Ray! read more

Lost our pieces in his messy office. No answer and no voicemail for weeks. Went in twice and he couldn't find our jewelry. After FIVE MONTHS, he finally found them. Don't take anything there that you care about. Might be a nice guy but a ridiculous businessman. Not sure how the business survived all these years. read more

Dropped off my necklace, wait ed three weeks, was told it didnt drop it off there,. I showed them my stub amd was told to come back later because it wasnt finished, twemty min later i got a call that it was ready. They "fixed" my necklace chain by sodering 1/4 of an inch of it together extremely poorly. I would give 0 stars if i could read more

I am so grateful to have found Ray! I needed to have a stone in my ring and replaced with a diamond. He ordered a new crown to accommodate the larger stone. He did a beautiful job, the new crown set the diamond off beautifully! He completed the work sooner that what was quoted. He will be my goto for all my jewelry repair needs. read more

I just relocated to the Sacramento area and since my wife and I have no previous relationships here (buisness or personal) we are in the process of finding a new everything - (dentist, mechanic, dry cleaners etc...) and since we don't know anyone that can give us any recommendations, we are on our own and forced with doing the old trial and error method. This is what I have to say about my experiance at Ray's. Now I know this isn't a deal breaker and its kind of small, but its nice when you are actually welcomed when you walk in the door, I find most places don't even care enough to acknowldedge your there, let alone be able to help you with your problem. I felt very welcomed here from the start and can see they are happy I am there too. They had the right batteries in stock for my watches, then showed me a huge selection of replacement leather bands that I needed, even knew why my Eco Drive watch was no longer charging and were able to repair it right there in house (no wating to send it back to the manufactuer). By the way they were going to do the work right then if I had some time to wait, which usually never happens when I go somewhere no matter if the place is busy or not. I know I am being long winded but its so nice to finally get someone that knows what they are doing and can actually help me, when you are relocating 3000 miles from one coast to the other you end of doing a lot of buisness transactions. Many places stood out but not for the reasons you want. Ray's made an impression on me, and family owned places like this are becoming harder and harder to find, with so many people choosing cheap prices in exchange for absouletly the worst or non exsitent customer service, forget about quality. Ray's is a welcome relief from the way people are use to being treated.....and by the way Ray's prices were the same as the big box stores. They made an effort to remember who I was, that I just moved here and started a new job. If you want to feel like your business, time (pun intended) and money are appreciated and tired of being treated like you are interupting their personal call or text message. Then give Ray's a chance to earn your buisness, you will definatly feel like your needs are being met and you might even leave with a smile. My family has been going to Ray's jewelers for all of our jewelry repairs and cleanings for decades. They are right-priced and do great work. And so friendly. Their hours are not totally reliable, so call before you go. And if you are going when the shop first opens, be sure to arrive early to be the first in line as you may have a 10 to 15 minute wait. read more

I've used Ray's a couple of times, always great service. Most recently it was to take a couple of links out of my wife's watch band, only to discover it was too many. A few days later on Saturday I took the watch back to get another link put back in, only to realize I'd gotten there an hour after the shop closed. Ray was still there locking up, asked me what I needed and added the needed link rather than telling me to come back on Monday. I'm so glad I found Ray again! He used to fix my watches and jewelry back in the 80's and did a beautiful inexpensive service. I took everything to him. He's a great personable guy, does a great job and sometimes he just waves you on for no charge at all. His prices are very reasonable, he's quick and I cant say enough great things about this man. Thanks, reviewer Mary D! I went to Ray's today to have a logo removed from the face of my watch (company logo) and have the battery replace. At first he didn't think he could do it but I told him I'd junk it then (nice Bulova watch) so he said if that was the case he'd give it a try. Success! I had a diamond ring with a broken crown, and Ray III did a perfect job of repairing it. In fact, it looks better than it originally did. The new crown appears to be higher quality; the workmanship on the setting is symmetrical and just looks like a secure, highly-professional job. He also cleaned and polished my ring, and it took my breath away when he unwrapped it and handed it to me. It's very nice that Ray charged me $90 less than I was quoted by a jeweler downtown. Called to get an estimate on a watch band install. Seemed reasonable, so headed down. Ray (I presume) was helping another customer when I walked in. He was working with the customer's watch for at least five minutes, and who knows how long before I walked in. He handed to watch back to the customer and said "no charge." I then approached the counter and handed him my watch and band. Two minutes later he hands it back to me with a now familiar phrase "no charge." Now I'm not suggesting that one should expect to receive free services at his shop, but it is certainly refreshing not to be nickle and dimed. Been going here for about a year or so. Shop is closer to my home than my other jeweler. I had watch batteries put in quickly and at reasonable cost. Stopped by the other day and he had been closed about 10 minutes. i started to walk away but he opened the door and called me back. i knew he had been ready to leave since his keys and things were on the glass counter case. He spent at least 20 minutes working my watches which is nice since i know he has a family and would like to have left in time. Always pleasant and very knowledgable. Would recommend this place to anyone. This is the type of dedicated home town service that was the norm years ago when I was a kid in Los Angeles. read more
