I have had Dr Favis as a dentist for almost 25 years. We have followed him from office to office because he is the best! He is amazing as a family dentist, he obviously loves kids and makes them feel comfortable as they are getting their teeth done. (He makes adults comfortable too!) Dr. Favis is a wonderful dentist practice! I've been going for over 22 years and have recommended everyone I know to come here! His office is always friendly and clean and he's maintained some very loyal staff over the years. Love this practice. The people are professional, kind, funny, and very talented at what they do in the dentistry profession. My husband and I have had issues like teeth breaking and it always feels as if the Favis / Ellis team always makes us a priority to get our teeth better. I broke a tooth on my fork recently, and Dr Ellis fixed it so beautifully, I can't even find what was broken and don't remember which tooth it was. read more

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Favis - he is the absolute best! I've been going to him since middle school - and I'm almost 25 now. I had a number of horrible experiences with local dentists before someone referred me to Favis - he has the most calming personality and was able to figure out pretty quickly with an x-ray that I had likely never been numb before despite undergoing a number of fillings. I'm hesitant to heap another 5-star'er on Favis since it'll only lead to you people stealing my dentist, but he deserves it. I've been to a lot of toof doctors. My teeth as a youth were...how do I put this...BAD. I've had gum grafting, a frenectomy (yeah, what the heck is that, right?), a tooth removed from the middle of my head-face, a palatal expander (i.e. slow torture), 5.5 years of braces, et. al. During a routine cleaning, Favis didn't look in my mouth and recoil. He told me I was special. And that my former torturers had done a "Great Job." For once, someone didn't make me feel like Frankenstein's monster. I crawled back to Favis about a year later freaking out because my wisdom toof was coming in and I didn't want any more teeth pulled. I was certain he would tell me I had to get it pulled, or better yet, that it wasn't a tooth to begin with but a calcified tumor or some such horror, knowing my luck... What he DID was take an X-ray and tell me it seemed I had enough room in my mouf and that I didn't have to get the thing pulled! Hurray for science! Dr. Favis is great. He's incredibly professional and knowledgeable, and very friendly. The rest of the staff is equally helpful. I've only been in for cleanings, x-rays and other generic appointments, but have never had difficulty making an appointment when needed. The appointments are always on-time, quick, efficient, and to the point. My only real semi-peeve is the up-selling/salesmanship. I've had a ton of dental work done in my day, and it's probably considered old school dental work. It's not the latest and greatest of what today's dental technology could offer - which Dr. Favis is all about. I'm sure the technology is cool, and my teeth could look 1000 times better, but until that's covered by my insurance or I win the lotto - I don't think so. Terrible arrogant reception and the worse dental billing I've ever dealt with. Plus this places overcharges outrageously:$388 for a ROUTINE checkup with x-rays. Choose Favis if you like your time wasted and want to be threatened by collections because they can't file the claims correctly. First of all, I never met with Dr. Favis because the day I had my appointment, they switched me to some other female dentist, who was fine for a regular checkup. I let the switch slide. then billing.... I have given the office staff Marissa the billing information several times and STILL 7 MONTHS LATER the claim has still not been filed. I have tried calling a couple times and half the time, nobody picks up the phone or calls back. The terrible dealings with the office staff is enough to not want to make another appointment with Dr. Favis regardless of how good all these reviews say he is. read more

As someone else mentioned, Dr. Favis' office has now moved to Pender Dr. off Waples Mill. The new digs are nice - I particularly like the windows you can look out of while in the dentist chair. Dr. Favis just fixed my daughter's cavities quickly and without Novocain using a laser. It was so cool. Not like when I was a kid. Dr. Favis has done fantastic work on mine and my children's teeth. My experience has been nothing but positive with Dr. Favis and his staff. Both for routine check ups and more serious appointments, his office is always warm, friendly. And I don't think I have ever waited more than a few minutes at the very most for my appointment. I've been going to him for about 12 years now. His dental care is always great. But what I really appreciate about him is how remarkably friendly he and his staff are. I always feelt like I'm being welcomed in a very cordial and friendly way, and Dr. Favis always remembers the very last conversation we had, even if it was six months ago. When I got home from teeth cleaning, then I realized the dentist (A lady) didn't floss my teeth. It only took less than 15 mins to finish my teeth cleaning, I thought it should take at least 30 mins. Not trustful. read more

Dr. Favis and his team are excellent! I drive all the way from Old Town Alexandria to go to his office. My wife and I both go and enjoy his gentle, but effective service. I've had many dentists work on me over the years, and when I find one I like, it's pretty special. And I like Dr. Favis! I show up every six months or so for a routine checkup, and he remembers conversations we had on my previous visit - that had nothing to do with my teeth! His staff is friendly and totally competent. I kept him even when he changed insurance plans and when he moved to a place that's far less convenient to get to. I've been going to Dr. Ray for several years --- on a referral from a friend --- and as an escape from the bureaucratic "horrors" of dealing with the Hoffman practice down by Woodson High. The difference in treatment is dramatic. Dr. Ray is the only dentist in the office and he has very high quality, courteous and caring staff. He is very personable and you cannot help yourself but liking him very much! He always has the latest technology and is available for emergencies. I have been seeing Dr. Favis for several years. His office staff is awesome and friendly. They try to work with your schedule, and have early morning appointments to accommodate people who prefer not to take a sick day for a dental appointment. They are the first dental practice in the DC I have seen that actually don't push teeth whitening or extraneous xrays, which is great. They do the standard bite wings and panoramic xrays in accordance with your insurance. They accept my insurance, Aetna, and are responsive via email. Dr. Favis has the personality of a caring small town doctor in the big city - he actually knows your name and takes notes so he can treat you accordingly. I used to see Dr. Favis when he was in an older building, and I'm pleased to see their practice is doing well enough to move to a newer building. I have never had a billing problem or had to wait forever to see him. If he does run a few minutes late with patients, he immediately acknowledges it and doesn't make you feel like you're going through the car wash. read more

The office is very efficient, as scheduling and visit reminders are done via email and phone, the paperwork is kept to a bare minimum, and waiting time is minimal. This dentist is neglectful and dishonest. He delayed fixing a cracked tooth I had and he did not mention I had a cavity in my upper molar. I kept complaining about pain and food being stuck. I decided to go to 2 other dentists to get a second and third opinion and I found out I had HUGE cavity, root canal and crown!! I was told that this cavity did not develop overnight; it took at least 4 years to get this big! I had been going to Dr. Favis at least 3 times a year for the last 5 years! He had plenty of opportunities to treat this cavity from the very beginning. I had my X-rays e-mailed to a cousin dentist in another state and I got the information confirmed he should have addressed it. I ended up having to take antibiotics due to the inflammation/abscess in the gum. I also have other minor cavities he did not address. I am guessing he makes more money from the insurance with crowns than a small cavity. I guess this is his way of making money. He will not overprice the treatment, neither charge for what is not there, but he will allow your teeth to get in bad shape so he can make more money. He was dishonest, negligent, careless, lazy, unprofessional, unethical, and irresponsible. Avoid him at all cost if you don't want to loose your teeth. read more
