Warning - get a quote in writing before you book Rawsons electrical that specifies how many tradesmen they are sending and the cost for all of them! They charged an extra $68 per hour on top of the quoted hourly rate for the apprentice that I did not ask for, nor did they tell me about, adding an extra few hundred to the cost of a relatively small job (an extra 30%). The person who I booked through was very patronising when the hourly rate was also higher from what he had told me and he argued that the job was faster with the apprentice, even though I told him I would have booked elsewhere had the full rates been disclosed when I asked what the rates would be. Obviously time and materials can vary from the quote but the hourly rate for the service should not. If you do use them, make sure you ask for an itemised invoice and check it carefully because they also added an extra hour to their time onsite (which they later corrected). So the electrician side of the business actually opens at 7:45am each week day morning. They also have a section called Rawsons Elite Appliances selling brands like Miele and the shop for that is at Unley and open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 2pm on Saturdays. As far as electrical contractors Rawsons can do anything. You don't survive in the industry for over 60 years and not know what you are doing though. I guess you could find cheaper but at least with Rawsons you know you always get a job done properly and do you really want to risk something this important just to save a few bucks? They do have electricians for everything including some very specialised ones in fields like PLC's. In addition Rawsons are the preferred repairer for some well known brands and are great at assisting to repair or replace any found with faults, even when they did not install them. I had Rawson Electrical turn up to a do a job on behalf of my kitchen installer because the job was brought forward and I was unable to use my contractor of choice. I explained this to the contractor and requested a quote and was given an "approx" cost for the job - via phone call made to his office. I had no choice but to use this installer. The work done was very straight forward as it involved re-wiring the existing power points in place from the old kitchen layout - new wiring and a 20amp circuit breaker was required for the new oven. The attitude of the contractor and his carelessness resulted in the Stainless Steel fridge being dented in two places when he moved it - I had asked for the fridge not to be moved until I was present. The contractor also damaged one of the new kitchen panels - I witnessed this and his response was "oops" . I did not find the contractor to be helpful and his attitude left a lot to be desired. When I contacted Rawson's regarding the bill and questioned the terminology on the account and requested a break down for hours etc I was met with hostility and impatience from the person concerned and basically instead of listening to my request and answering my questions I was accused of not wanting to pay the account. The person was very defensive and his communication skills were very poor. I spent close to $5000.00 on appliances and accessories purchased from Rawson and felt the service was sub standard with no regard to my concerns. For the record I transferred the bulk of the account due on the same day but I was told I had to wait for them to speak with the contractor who they suggested did not cause the damage to the Fridge even though I told them that their contractor was the one to move the Fridge. Customer service and the ability to take constructive feedback is not something Rawson Electrical seems to be able to do. They have informed me that they will speak with their contractor and get back to me. I was made to feel that my complaints and request for a more detailed costing were unreasonable. Had a problem with a teka induction cooktop I which was purchased in December. Rang Rawsons and told them what was happening. They were out within a day or so and checked it out. Replaced the cooktop with a new one which they had with them - one visit and no hesitation. Impressive service! read more
