This all started back in September of 2021. My car overheated as I was pulling into work, so I took…read moreit to the closest mechanic, Gray's Service, to avoid causing further damage. They quoted me around $1,200 to replace the water pump, and I agreed. While the work was being done, they called and said that since the timing chain was already off, they recommended replacing it as well--for an additional $1,200. I did not have that kind of money. I was upset and called my dad, who went to the shop himself and told them to put the timing chain back as it was. When the job was finished, I was told my bill was $2,000, which was not what I had been quoted. I had to walk back to work to get the Post-it note where I had written down the original quote. After that, they honored the $1,200 price. Fast forward to December 2025, and my car began losing coolant rapidly. I took it to my regular mechanic, who confirmed that the issue was again the water pump. He suggested I call Gray's Service to see if the repair was under warranty. When I called, I was told they would need to inspect it, and if it was the water pump, it would be covered under warranty. I specifically asked when the water pump had been installed, and I was told September 2021. I was scheduled to bring the car in the next day. They confirmed it was the water pump--but then told me it was not covered under warranty because it had been four years. On top of that, they strongly pushed replacing the timing chain and quoted me $4,700 total. This directly contradicted what I had been told on the phone the day before. I declined the work. My mechanic quoted me $3,000 and advised me not to deal with Gray's Service again. I went in one last time hoping they would do the right thing based on what I had been told--but the outcome was exactly what I expected. My advice: go anywhere else. This is a horrible way to run a business. I gave them a first chance, I gave them a second chance, and I would never give them a third. Extremely disappointed.

If I could give less than one star I would…read more We took our car here last month to have what we thought was the alternator replaced. It turned out it was the battery needing to be replaced. They called and tried to push more services on top of what was already being done and when we declined those they continued to push. Well we got the car back and it was quite obvious that they did not test drive the car to make sure it was ok because as we were driving it, it began to stall out every time we slowed down/stopped. As we are a limited budget family we could not have this "new issues" worked on until this month and so took it to our regular mechanic to have it fixed and turns out this place left a vacuum hose disconnected and that was causing the stalling. So we ended up having to pay $125 to fix their incompetence. Honestly they should be responsible for that $125 that we had to pay. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE EVER TO HAVE YOUR VEHICLE WORKED ON. If you do not buy into everything they want you to have done they will mess up your car so you have no choice but to pay more money to have things fixed.

I live in Marathon City and work in the Walmart pharmacy, and MUST get to work every day. So, I gingerly drove down off the medium. As soon as I started driving (slowly), both tires started squalling, Yep, front steering sector fritzed big time, and I needed to get an AWD vehicle. The best plan I could come up with was to drive a mile to a dealership near Menard, check their inventory, get recommendations on mechanics in the area, and buy a clean, AWD vehicle. SelectAUTO came up as highly recommended, though they are located in Weston. I requested that they send a wrecker, which they did, and I sailed away in a 2017 Ford Escape. Mike Molitor, the manager, is extra nice, very helpful. It took 10 days to assemble the parts and get them installed. While they were at it, they adjusted and cleaned my brakes. Nicely done! Reasonable too.!

After a half hour, I was told that I needed upper and lower ball joints and four new tires and an alignment. I needed the service done as we were driving to Florida 3 days later. The bill was a staggering $2k. We made it to Florida and back only to have the same noise return. I took it in and they told me it sounded like a wheel bearing. The original paperwork said check wheel bearings. I was given an estimate for another $270 to fix. I spoke with the manager, who said he could give the wheel bearing at cost, but I said it should be free as they missed the issue the first time and that $2k worth of service should have covered it. He said no. I'm not giving my money to someone who doesn't fix the problem the first time.
