The Logging Camp is a must-visit every time we're in Park Rapids visiting family. We make it a tradition to come here every year, and it never disappoints! They serve breakfast until 12 PM, which is perfect for a relaxed morning, and the pancakes are hands down the best I've ever had. What makes this place even more special is how family-friendly it is. Kids absolutely love it! There are chickens, ducks, turkeys, and chipmunks wandering around the property, creating such a fun and unique experience. For just 25¢, you can buy animal feed from the feeding stations and let the kids interact with the animals, it always becomes the highlight of our visit. Come for the experience, not the food. Definitely arrive early for faster service. The building takes you back in time. Metal cups and plates. Long tables with food served family style. Fun for kids! We arrived around 10:15 on a Wednesday and were quoted about a half hour to be seated. Luckily there are things to do while you wait! A fun gift shop and you can feed chickens and fish. Once inside, the servers explain how things work. The food and coffee took pretty long to come out because it was so busy. Everything was decent, a little bland. We've been coming to this spot since I was a kid, and it's aged well. You pay in the gift shop then walk through to the back. The food building is off to the left, the bathrooms are around to the right, and there is a large grassy area to walk and see old equipment. Service! Service! Service! Coming from the STL area, I was blown away by the amazing service and attitude of our server! She was friendly and not fake feeling. My whole family (7 adults, 1 child) was very well attended to and were left wanting nothing. We can't remember her name, but she had blonde hair, and it was a Wednesday, June 12, around 9:30 am. We tipped 25% on the card and gave her extra cash in the way out, because she was a breath of fresh air! The food was fantastic, as well. If you like basted eggs, they do them well here! My family visited a restuarant similar to this one in Wisonsin Dells last summer and had a blast so of course when I learned about this place we had to give it a try. For those who are not familiar with logging camp restuarants, everything is served family-style in big portions. You eat in a long "shanty" building that is usually decorated to look like something you would have seen in the logging boom of the 1800s in Minnesota. You eat on long wooden tables on wooden benches and everything is served with tin plates and cups on red checkered tablecloths to fully embrace the logger feeling. The food here does not dissapoint. For dinner options you can choose from BBQ ribs, chicken and stuffing, roast beef and gravy, or brown sugar ham. Every meal is served with dinner rolls, thick cut pickles, coleslaw, macaroni salad, molasses baked beans, and mashed potatoes and gravy. Oh and did I mention it is all AYCE? Finally, for dessert each person is served a fresh large raised cinnamon and sugar logger donut. They will bag the donut up for if you have no room for it and believe me you will not. We come here just about every year for breakfast at least once. I think I've been to dinner here a long time ago, but breakfast is the attraction for our family. It's not THE best food you'll ever have, but it is good and served to you hot and fast and in quantities that make sure you WILL NOT go hungry. The key is to make friends with your server, they'll take care of you. You usually get sat down and they bring OJ right over...then take your order for other drinks like Coffee, Water, or Milk. ***Breakfast is: Eggs (You only order once - Soft or Scrambled {order as many as you think you can handle then order one more [somebody will eat it]}), Ham, Sausage, Pancakes, Hash-browns (1 portion per person {pretty big spatula size helping}), & Logger's Raisins (stewed prunes {you have to request these as not many people want them}). Your server can bring you more meat or pancakes if you want, but you might not be able to handle any more as it's a huge meal. It's all included in the price you paid for breakfast, which is low considering all the food you get at the table (you can tip at the table, or just tip when you pay). The accompanying hash browns, pancakes and meat are just your average bland fare. On the plus side, the juice and coffee are plentiful and service is fast. I wanted to like it...I really did. I took my family to Park Rapids for vacation. With six kids and three adults we were quickly processed for payment, but went into the purgatory of waiting for over an hour for a seat. At that time, we were told by the server that things were backed up, so we should "hurry up and order"! The food was ordered after the server barked at us and then we again entered a huge waiting game. 30 minutes later, the food showed up. The food was dropped unceremoniously onto the table, and we then were ignored for a while...we had to track down syrup and butter. I get being busy, being overwhelmed in the kitchen, but hire servers that have the class to handle these situations deftly. I am in Park Rapids for vacation several times per year, I won't return. read more

We loved it! The perfect stop before Lake Itasca on our journey to the headwaters of the Mississippi. Our family of six in a rented RV made this a lovely lunch before beginning our camping out experience. While it is a bit difficult to find, it is totally worth the effort. The log cabin, the tin place settings, the amazing food. All were so welcome after the drive up. The best parts were the homemade blueberry jelly, the ribs with tangy barbecue sauce and the piping hot, fresh doughnuts at the end in cinnamon sugar. Whoa! Stopped in here for a family breakfast on our way back to Garrison from Itasca State Park. Reasonably priced and good quality breakfast... All you can eat ham, sausage, pancakes, eggs and hash browns. Milk, coffee and orange juice to drink. And don't worry, you can dine rain or shine as the eating area is indoors. Would have loved to see more logging equipment and learn more about logging in general... While you could play with the 1-ton chain and feed the fish in the river or chickens in the coup, there isn't much else to see/do during your visit. We'd have liked the various meats better without the gravy on everything but other than that everything was tasty. The fresh donuts & milk for dessert was a great ending to a good meal. This is one of the best restaurants in Minnesota. I don't know if it ever was actually a logging camp, but it does seem as though it was. There is always a long wait, but here it is not a chore. While you wait you can explore their grounds. They have a river where you can watch the minnows swim. There is a barn where they have an old sawmill. You can walk paths and see Lady Slippers if you come during the right weeks. When you get into the mess hall... you will see what it was like to devour pancakes like the lumberjacks! They serve everything family style and it's always the same silver dollar pancakes & syrup bacon, sausage and regular breakfast fare. Nothing fancy, but it's so fun! read more

I've been here a couple of times for dinner and loved it! All you can eat ribs, beef, pork, and chicken, with potatoes, hash browns, bread, and a tasty donut for dessert. Food is extremely reasonable, and it has never been too busy when we've been for dinner. The grounds are also neat to walk around with period logging machinery. We've been going here for years and have always liked it but we just went last weekend with 10 people and I'm truly disgusted! Our waitress was the rudest server I've ever come in contact with, we had 10 people and every time we asked for something else she made us feel bad for it and got snippy with us and told us we had enough bread cause there was one for everybody, she rolled her eyes when we asked for more meat and wouldn't let us reorder our second serving - she brought 2 out at s time and again made us feel awful for even asking! We will NEVER go back!!! Worst service ever !!! And by the way they don't take credit cards...who doesn't take credit cards...WEIRD!!! read more

We have been going to the logging camp for over 25 years for our Sunday family dinner when in Minnesota on our yearly vacation. We started with 9 and now we are at 26. we range in age from 92 to 1 and everyone enjoys it so much. The food is always Great along with the service we receive. Been to the Logging Camp many times over the years for both breakfast and dinner. More of an event than just a meal. In years past there would be saw demonstrations with the steam powered saw on site. A great family meal. Price is reasonable and food consistently good. My only complaint is the metal coffee cups are VERY hot in your hands. They still let you take the donut for desert with you, but no to go boxes. read more

My family goes to Park Rapids every year, and we always go to the logging camp. This year was NOT great! 7 people ordered chicken, to which the waitress came back to tell us they only had 2 orders of chicken and 5 people would need to change their order. The corn bread the waitress gave us was moldy. When we notified the waitress she exchanged it with another pan that she said, "she looked over to make sure there was no mold." We had to ask for more macaroni salad 3 times before we got it. Needless to say this will be the end to a long standing family tradition :( read more
