We're all quick to assume that people in sales don't love their work the way a dentist or an interior decorator might. We hold every interaction at arm's distance; treat every smile or favor as an improvement on a disguise meant to milk us for more money. Raphael, however, clearly loves his work, and wants to do the best work, regardless of the dollar amount it brings him in the end. My roommate and I were renting sight-unseen and Raphael guided us through the process painlessly, from video walkthroughs to late night calls warning us of building troubles that might have otherwise come as a surprise. On the eve of submitting an application, he even pointed us towards a building's yelp reviews, which were few, but terrible and ultimately dissuaded us from signing. That's an unnecessary help that potentially lost him a sale. After nearly signing with another realtor at another location, Raphael was gracious and wished us the best, then sent one more apartment in case something went wrong with the other lease. Something did go wrong, and Raphael took us through the process again, ultimately selling us hard on one of two units he had showed us -- the one that made him less money in the end. All of this is to say that Raphael puts people first, money second. I think he cares about the housing process, recognizes it's anxiety-inducing properties, and has made it his purpose to mitigate those effects as best he can. Work with him. read more

Wonderful experience! Forget everything you know about real estate agents or you won't believe this guy is in the business. We were prepared for 'the usual' agent to show up. When Raphael showed us the apartment and was such a great guy, we felt like it was fate telling us where we should rent. He is a genuine guy with a genuine goal of helping people. All the standard lines and standard slick behaviors of the real estate profession don't apply. This was a real interaction worth Yelping about! On the downside, Raphael only shows properties he really believes in, so he didn't show us everything in LIC. On the upside, he was RIGHT! The place he felt proud to show us became our new home 2 months ago and we have not regretted it for a moment. (Let me state here- just for reference- that we are not easy to please, we searched for months in LIC.) With most of the viewings that we had in LIC, we were either running from the agents because they were so sleazy or we were at least anxious to be done with them because they were so used-car-salesman-like. We're not stupid, but we felt like many of them had treated us like we would believe ANYTHING they said (no matter what we were seeing before us). Raphael was a real surprise. He was someone who spoke with us about what we were looking for and honestly discussed with us the pros and cons of the apartments we were viewing. He wasn't trying to sell as much as he was trying to match and please, which was exactly our goal. A stark difference from everyone else we dealt with!
