The crew was UNTRAINED inexperienced young guys NO trained person to oversee job! ***Roof crew was given WATER SOLUBLE sealant for the roof vents!!!*** All this WASHED AWAY EXPOSING GAPS allowing water in MY ROOF and creating leaks into my home for year!!! Still getting poured on with every rain!!! The crews did not scrape the old goop from under the furnace vent and after sealant washed away it left the vent with a gap allowing water to go into my roof! This created a ceiling water stain and hole in floor in front of the furnace!! ***Now the threshold is pulling away from door frame, wall damage!!*** When I called the company told them of the hole in floor, again sent inexperienced workers that did NOT completely seal up ALL of the voids and gaps left when roof was put on! Finally it was obvious to me this is A COMPLETELY SCAM COMPANY! I hired a certified experienced home builder / inspector company which found; 1. Stains and elevated levels of moisture in several areas which is a "conducive condition for wood-destroying organisms." MY HOME HAS BEEN WET SINCE THEY PUT THE ROOF ON! 2. "Manufactures recommendation is to extend starter shingles 3/8 to 1/2 past drip edge of roof. Both sides have areas that are either short of drip edge and does not extend". This SCAM Company did not even train or CARE that their crew knew HOW to the STARTER SHINGLES ON CORRECTLY! A simple half inch difference in training!!!! Which left BOTH SIDES of MY WHOLE ROOF EXPOSED! 3. Both air pipe flanges were too big and installed and chalked incorrectly! 4. Chalking Voids This SCAM family company were notified August 15, 2022 of roof leaking issues. NO RESPONSE!!! THEY HAVE INTENTIONALLY WREAKED MY HOME! This is a TRUE AMERICAN CLASSIC "HOME-WRECKING" family company! Last contact was September 21, 2022.

I couldn't be happier!! And before I finish my review, I just wanted to make a comment on the guy going on about the 3 tabs. This is a construction supply store. You call them and ask for something and they deliver. They aren't a building contractor. That means that when that guy is complaining about how they like putting up 3 tab on the homes? It's not them. It's actually the building contractor who is calling them and ordering 3 tab shingles for the home! Why you ask? Because 3 tab is cheaper and contractors want to do it as cheap as possible for all of us shmucks. If you don't like 3 tab (I don't like them and don't blame you) don't blame the supplier. Blame the contractor and then find a new one that will build your home the way you want it!

After talking to several companies and reviewing proposals, I chose Smart Roofing Systems. Smart has done many homes in my neighborhood and everyone had good things to say about them. My experience was no exception. One difference I noticed about Smart vs. other companies is that instead of having a huge dumpster placed in your driveway, they used an open trailer on wheels allowing for easy removal of the debris each day. I also liked the fact that this left no marks on the asphalt driveway like some heavy dumpster can do. The crews put in extremely long days and did an amazing clean up. When you tear down a roof, shingles, nails, etc. go everywhere. The job site remained neat and the daily and final clean up was superb. Smart was extremely easy to do business with. Great, responsive communications and follow up. I tend to ask a lot of questions especially given the costs involved. Never was I left hanging. I highly recommend Smart Roofing Systems.

I spoke in the Yelp chat with questions to the owner Richard Paige in Rockford, MI., who certainly knew all the questions he answered without hesitation and it revealed his knowledge of all the aspects we needed to know! April 4th we experienced a hail storm. A couple of days later I noticed water running out from under our siding and it had not rained for more than 24 hours. We phoned Dave and he was unable to get to our office until after we closed. Due to the storm in the area he checked the roof and was at the office the next morning to tell us what he had found. We reported to our insurance company, he met the insurance adjuster, he scheduled for everything to be done and he worked around the criteria we needed worked around at our office and we not have a beautiful new roof. Paid Dave what he had us sign a contract stating how much we needed to pay him but then kept asking for money up front because he wasn't making any money by doing our house. "What?" As a matter of fact Dave said the day b4 they were supposed to be done, can you pay the rest of what owed? I need to pay my workers. And it sound like he didn't pay them at all (or at least not all of what he owed his workers) We do thank him for leaving tools all around our house that we kept finding, I guess they're ours now. When hiring someone to do your house; make sure to ask if the workers are legal to work in the United States? If not tell them to get the H### off your property. As for the warranty on the roof and siding that was put on; there won't be any warranty's if the contractor is gone.

Gus from Big Rapids Roofing came out and gave a much better price than other bids I got, plus his company uses the brand shingle and holds the certification I wanted. I was delayed until into December from starting by my chimney build, but as soon as my chimney was finished Big Rapids Roofing was able to start. They had to blow snow off the roof in order to work. Their crew did an excellent job, worked from daybreak on into dark. Their clean up was pristine. Because of the winter weather, their equipment left some tracks in the yard, and they made every effort to remedy this by sending a guy with several bags of dirt and grass seed to repair the yard. I didn't press for this, they did it because they were responsible.

We contacted Kieff's Roofing approx 6-7 years ago to have some roofing repairs. They obviously did…read morenot want to do repairs but they wanted to replace it. It was about 18 years old so we decided to go ahead and have them replace it. It took them awhile to get to it, but it was completed in December. They did a good job but had to come back to fix some issues. We now need an awning taken down that they put up for us and some shingles replaced in that area. We called them two weeks ago to have them come back out to give us a quote, but have not heard back from them whether they want the job or not. I will edit this "would I recommend them" from a maybe to a yes if we hear back from them. EDIT: Since this review, Kieff's Roofing did eventually get out to remove the awning and replace the shingles today.
