I was told that Rankin Auto Upholstery was pretty good, but that is not a fair discription. They were great! The owner, Matt, is the type of man who will not take your money until he knows the job he is delivering is perfict! Matt is a rare find in the world of really lousy service we live in today. I highly recomend Rankin Auto Upholstery for high-end cars, classic cars and any repair servise they offer!!! read more

In April 2025, I sold my 2005 Volvo XC90. It looked great. Several years ago, I had the headliner replaced by Rankin Auto Upholstery. The craftsmanship and installation were of great quality. I never had any issues with it. I sold the Volvo to a young family and the headliner looked like it was replaced this year. I highly recommend them and they are my first choice for upholstery needs. read more

After 4 years of ownership and dealing with a damaged headliner from the previous owner, I finally got around to getting it repaired at a reputable upholstery shop. The gentlemen I spoke to over the phone and interacted with at their front desk were very kind and professional. They completed the job quickly as promised and I picked up my car the very next day. They also support service members so that's another plus! Thanks again for the fantastic job on my headliner and making it look new again! read more

Rankin Auto Upholstery - 2009 BMW M3 headliner (before and after) - Auto Upholstery Near Me - Gaithersburg, Maryland

Got the M3 back from the upholster and I was totally pleased with the outcome of my headliner repair. They quoted 1/2 the price that other shops wanted and also found out that they had worked on a lot of older BMWs as well. Matt and Carlos was very knowledgeable about all the older BMW headliner issues. And also took the time to demonstrate water drainage issues from the sunroof with these older cars. Thankfully mine had none. I would definitely recommend this shop to my BMW buddies. read more

Excellent experience. I needed a section of my Subaru 2017 Outback's leather car seat to be replaced due to the leather having cracked. Rankin did a great job, it looks like the original. They matched the leather and the stitching perfectly. Highly recommend. read more

I've used Rankin Upholstery for a number of projects and have been very happy with their quality of work, timeliness, and customer service. Most recently, I asked them to help sew a custom leash for one of our therapy dogs for our breast cancer nonprofit. Without hesitation, and without making me wait, they created the custom leash and donated their time. I simply love businesses, like Rankin Upholstery, who do quality work and who can find it in their heart to support community charities. read more

l never knew about these folks until they came up on the screen of a loaner Jaguar I-Pace as having a chargepoint. I let the car suck on their free electric teat that evening for an hour, to give the collection people some range next morning. Fab car by the way... I only live our miles away, so since the trimmer I'd used bngefore had retired, a few days later I called in to buy some male press studs after wasting an hour going to various stores. I brought the trim part that needed attaching, to make sure I got the right size. The guy asked how many studs and I guessed ten. He went into the workshop and came back with a handful and wouldn't take anything for them. Two freebies in succession. Thinking I was on a roll, I took my twenty year old Triumph seat to be recovered but sad to say I had to pay for that! Good work and reasonable price, so I can't complain. Recommended read more

Rankin has helped my volunteer fire dept. by redoing the upholstery in many of the fleet's vehicles over the years. So, when I purchased one of our department's antique engines from a private owner, they were the first ones I turned to, to re-do the seats in the rear cab area. They provided excellent customer service, and as always, a high quality product! These seats look great, and will provide many more years of service for this old rig!!! read more

I have been to Rankin twice in the last two years to replace a saggy headliner and to repair a scratched leather seat. Both times, they have done very good work at good prices, and provided good customer service. I would go back. Our most positive experience with Rankin matches that of others who have taken the time to post. We have a classic Mercedes 560SL, and upon a strong recommendation from our trusted mechanic shop, we had Rankin install a new soft top. Beautiful job, on time and no surprises. We are very particular on keeping the car authentic and the top looks factory installed. It was a pleasure working with Matt and Dan. Check Rankin out; you won't be disappointed. read more

I was referred to Rankin Auto Upholsteru by the Mazda dealer because I wanted to know who they used to replace convertible tops. The people who work at Rankin really know their business and are a pleasure to work work. I entrusted by 22-year old Miata to them to replace the convertible top which had never been replaced before. I wanted a factory correct top so that the Miata continued to look original. I am more than delighted with the work they did. The top is exactly what I wanted at a price that was fair and competitive and the work was done when promised. I highly recommend Rankin Auto Upholstery. read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone unless you dont care how your work will come out. SUPER DISAPPOINTED. So i have been going to them for years. They changed owners and i guess the quality in there work had went wayyyyy down. So i have a 96 impala SS that im restoring to eventually put into shows. Now way before this whole corona virus started i went to them to get my steering wheel redone and my carpets done and the back seat. I couldn't believe how horrible it looked. The carpets and backseat look so baggy and huge like a baby trying to put his dadys shoes on. Plus my carpet had a huge rip going down the middle. Yes they ripped it and gave it to me like that. I told them no im not happy with it. I do not want it with a big rip down the middle. So they wanted me to pay again for labor they said it wasn't there fault it was the company they bought it froms fault. They end up say they will redo it. NOW SOMETHING ELSE. I get a detail and the paint they put on my steering when comes completely off. They tell me its not there fault because i got my car detailed. REALLY? so im just suppose to leave my car dirty after that because i got my steering wheel redone? This is terrible and what they use is super cheap material. They must to Michael's art store to buy there paint. So after here comes the Covid pandemic i was suppose to drop my car off and they call me and tell me they cant do it right now they have to help jonh hopkins make mask for there nurses. I totally understood and said ok awesome ill wait. A long time passed so i called to check on them. 1st time they said there still working on Mask. 2nd time they said bring it in Monday give us time we'll finish by Friday. I said ok no problem. I call Thursday just to check on it. Then i get so many excuses so i got a little upset. They basically said come pick your car up and we'll refund for the carpets. This was a big waste of my time and a horrible experience. read more

Go to Rankin Auto Upholstery if you want the job done correctly. They know what they are doing and have the experience and confidence to fix things that places like Leather medic did incorrectly. I found this place by reading online reviews about people who went through the same experience with Leather Medic that I did. The Rankin team is very courteous, professional, knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend Rankin if you need a headliner redone or leather seats. They also do good work with convertible tops and carpet replacements. This is a hidden treasure that is not off a main road so you have to basically be looking for their shop but you will be rewarded for the effort. I wish I would have known about this place before I took my vehicle to leather medic who tried to steal my upfront credit card payments, damaged my vehicle and pulled a fast one on me with some imitation carpet that was coming apart as soon as it was glued to my vehicle. read more

The best customer service! I brought my car in to repair a tear in the leather of my driver's side seat(VW Jetta 2015). Each time I contacted them they were always professional. The process started with me emailing them a picture. I received a quick call back with a fair estimate and we scheduled a day for me to drop my car off. I dropped my car off before they opened. When I called to check on their progress they let me know there was a problem. That's when their customer service shined for me. They let me know they didn't have the correct leather in stock to match my car seat and would need a few days to order it. They said that special delivered upholstery repair usually costs more plus on closer inspection the job is a little more work and would normally cost $350. I just made a "EEeee" sound over the phone since they originally estimated my repair at $250. They told me that due the inconvenience, they'll honor their original offer of $250 :) I thought that was really great. On top of their great customer service, they do amazing work! My seat looks better than brand new! They added cushioning without changing the look and the seat is a little more comfortable. -Amy read more

Well, another boring RAVE REVIEW of Rankin's. Don't even bother going elsewhere. This business is run professionally from the moment you call to inquire about the service to the endpoint when you pick up your finished product. They fixed a seat in our Fiat that would no longer move forward so people could enter the backseat of the car. It was fixed in no time, reasonably priced, and we couldn't be happier! read more

Headliner replacement. Excellent result on replacing the fabric on the headliner from a old Volvo. Over time, the factory foam that was bonded to the headliner fabric deteriorated, resulting in drooping fabric and a fine mist of foam with every bump on the road. I removed the headliner myself and brought it to Rankin. They cleaned up the headliner shell and did a first-rate job installing the new fabric, all at a very reasonable price. The results were better than I would have ever expected. Coupled with their friendly and professional customer service (Thanks Daniel and Matt), I am completely satisfied. I recommend that anyone looking for any kind of upholstery work, auto or home, give them a call. read more
