Would definitely recommend for those who don't want something too intense but still will have a good time. They also take pictures of you while on the raft that is sent to your email almost right away. Tom was our guide and was great. The best personality, really easy to joke around with and talk. He does try to freak you out before you start but it is so fun. He makes sure you have a good time and get the most out of the experience. The place itself is also a camping ground and other activities. It doesn't have a bathroom but it does have an outhouse and changing room. For the actual rafting everyone gets on, you have the option after the first round you can go on the duck which is like your own kayaking experience or get in the front as the princess of the boat. We went 4 rounds of rafting, the last round definitely was the most intense and fun. After the rafting you can choose to go tubing. Tubing was definitely a little intense since you go down the same river. We go stuck at the end, the current was crazy strong but thankfully there were kayakers and paddle boarders who come regularly to come help us.

After a 2 hour paddle to my campsite on Lake Umbagog, I unloaded my kayak and discovered that the kayak had taken on significant water due to a leak in the rear bulkhead. There was a gallon or two in the compartment, along with my belongings. It was a mess. And the added water weight explained why the boat was dragging. I left numerous polite voicemails and wrote several emails over the next 24 hours, describing the problem and requesting a replacement boat. No one returned my calls, and the one email I received indicated I'd get a replacement kayak brought to me that day. But it never arrived. With an impending storm, we thought it was risky to attempt to paddle back in a boat that was already leaking, and with no replacement boat, we decided to be safe and cut our trip short to avoid paddling in the rain. So, our trip was cut short due to the leaking boat provided by Northern Water Outfitters. More so, it was cut short due to the complete lack of response to the problem. When I arrived back at Northern Waters Outfitters, I had to hunt down someone to assist me (as it had been when I'd initially rented the kayak). When I explained what I had been through to the staff member, he belittled me and insinuated that I was not "patient enough" when waiting for the replacement boat. Note: We had been waiting all day the previous day, at the campsite. We had not been able to kayak around and enjoy the lake on our trip, because we were waiting for the boat, and because it didn't feel safe. I was forced to cut my trip short as I did not feel safe returning with a leaky boat, along with taking in rain (no spray skirt was issued). This staff member was rude and condescending. He again stated, with an attitude, "I was bringing you the boat". When I explained that my concern was based on my extensive experience and knowledge as a wilderness guide in the past, he reacted by mocking me for being a "world renowned expert" (which I never claimed to be) and continued to belittle me. At that point, I told him I expected a refund for the full rental period. He responded with statements such as "you'll get your refund" "whatever you want, expert". His attitude was perplexing, as I'd been extremely patient and polite for the duration, despite the circumstances. While I was issued a refund for the rental, no one from Northern Waters Outfitters had contacted me with an apology or to learn more about how they could have prevented this situation in the first place. Based on the condition of their boats, their customer service, and disregard for my safety, I cannot recommend this outfitter to anyone who is seeking to rent kayaks in Errol, NH. I see that this business has good reviews in the past. Perhaps the owner needs to take note of who he's leaving in charge.

The Rangeley Lakes region is massive and holds six large lakes, as well as hundreds of smaller lakes, ponds, and streams. I started my adventure driving in on the Rangeley Lakes Scenic Byway which takes you way up on some ridges with vast sweeping views of the valley that holds gigantic Mooselookmeguntic Lake!! You'll have the opportunity to pull off for photos at Height of Land waypoint and I highly recommend the stop - a great way to start your trip! I based myself out of Rangeley and stayed at the quaint Rangeley Inn & Tavern and it was so perfect! Rangeley is right in the heart of the region and sits between lovely Haley Pond (full of Loons!!) and magnificent Rangeley Lake which has spectacular sunsets and seaplane excursions. Apparently modern day fly fishing was born in this region which doesn't surprise me. This is a sportsman's paradise to be sure! Fishing, hunting, ATVing - all very popular here. As well as hiking and tons of birding! In winter it's all about skiing and snowmobiling. I came to this region in search of moose and explored as much as I could - all the way up to the giant Chain of Ponds pushing up to the Canadian border. And while I didn't find any moose, I still had an amazing adventure and will definitely be back!!

Rest areas are usually for stretching, picnicking, and pooping (not necessarily in that order fwiw), and while this place certainly allows for all of the above, it's the nature that makes this a top-notch hiking spot, as well. The Good: *Several pit toilets (don't look down) *Picnic tables *Parking lot isn't huge but it's ample enough. *Series of small cascading water falls with trails along the edges and access to the water. I'm honestly not sure how far back the trails go, but by the time I got to the top it looked like you could keep going for a bit. *Great spot for leaf-peeping The Meh: *The road around the lot is gravely, so don't drive too fast or you'll kick up rocks. The Ugly: *Those pit toilets are...0_o *Yelp Mods who can't read a map to save their lives. I've already had them adjust the pin on here several times and they never get it right--there's LITERALLY A PIN on the map that says "Small Falls Rest Area" and they just stick it in arbitrary places. I'm pretty sure they're fucking with me at this point. 0_o Conclusion: If you find yourself in Rangeley Maine or thereabouts, then be sure to add this place to your list of things to see.

Bigelow Preserve is an absolutely gorgeous state-owned nature preserve in Western Maine…read more Established in 1976, this protected land is open to the public for hiking, camping, boating, fishing, fall foliage, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and so much more! At over 36,000 acres... you're sure to find something of interest. The flora and fauna are just breath-taking and it is absolutely worth a visit! I visited this vast parcel of land with the intent of climbing four out of the seven peaks of the Bigelow Mountain Range that are contained within the preserve. As some of the tallest mountains in all of Maine, I was excited for the challenge. The mountains are named after Major Timothy Bigelow who summitted the peaks in the late 1700s. There are many trails, including the famous Appalachian Trail, that snake through this forested playground. The Maine Appalachian Trail Club maintains these tracks and provides caretakers at the backcountry camping sites. From the mountains there are impressive views of Flagstaff Lake and the mountain range itself. Open all year round. One of the most scenic hikes I've completed in a while! Breath in the fresh air and get outside.

The chairs at the tables did not have backs and I need one with a back for health reasons. She took a stool from the bar with a back to make me more comfortable. Thank you! We were here for the Tom Ball band. We are fans of the music and vibe they bring. Early so we ordered some food. We started with the loaded Tots which comes with cheese and pulled pork, we really enjoyed them. The Panini we chose was the Cubano, I requested NO JALAPEÑOS, I have a strong dislike for them, they take over the flavor profile of any sandwich added too. We waited a bit then they arrived. I immediately noticed the Jalapeño green and told the cook that I requested no jalapeño on my sandwich. She told us she would scrap off as best as she could. Hm, how is that going to eradicate the taste I'm have such a repugnance too? Shortly she returned with a now tired looking sandwich that tastes like Jalapeño. My question is why not make a new one? I barely finished half of it was so nasty They were supposed to take off our bill but they did not. Just some advice, remake the sandwich, don't skimp and scrap the unwanted item off the sandwich because the flavor stays behind. Your name goes out in every plate you serve and this was not a good sandwich. For a Friday night with a band playing they really need two bartenders. As the crowd grew, Jacqueline was running to help us. One of the partners was there, he helped for a little while then was off socializing or standing outside. This is an Off-Road park for Trucks and ATVs. Awesome terrain, HUGE park, as well as camping and…read morefood! Jon has a very laid back management of the park, which is nice that you can just go enjoy yourself. He is always around, so if you get stuck, he can come unstuck you. No matter the size (bulldozer and escavtor on site if it is that bad!). He also encourages people to make trails of their own if they'd like. Just keep it in the property's borders (which are massive so that is easy!). He also cooks if you bring a group for a day or weekend trip. The food is always amazingly good. If you call ahead and schedule, then when you arrive in the morning he will usually have breakfast ready for you (the french toast is unreal), with all the trimmings (bacon, toast, coffee, soda, milk, water, real maple syrup, as well as fake maple syrup. Lunches and dinners are always a toss up - but always good! and always way more than enough food. The lodge is a little rough, but it matches the nature of the park. Fireplae in the corner for the fall and spring. I've heard him mention that he does a snowcross track in the winter too, but haven't had a chance to go yet. And the huge couches around the fireplace may look gross, but seriously try sitting there after a day of wheeling... if you aren't asleep in five minutes than you still have more park to see! Campsites are spread around the lodge. Far enough that you can camp, and not be bothered by anyone else's noise. He has some old RV's parked on some of the sites, that I think he used to rent out. Looks like someone broke in and destroyed all of them though. Definitely stay out of them haha. We tented out and slept in our trucks and had a blast. Right below the lodge are two large mud pits, a dirtbike track with some decent sized woops, and a small rock pile with some good obstacles for rock crawlers. One of the trails takes you right to the top of Winter Hill. You can see for miles, its very pretty, and the trip is usually a few hours up the trails so its a good half-day run. This park needs more visitors. I fear if people don't start hitting this place harder, he may just close up. This park has SO MUCH potential, and is really the "free-est" terrain in maine from legislature. If you haven't been, it's worth the trip at least once. Alcohol is permitted as long as it is kept reasonable. We usually are having too much fun during the day to remember that we have beer. - NO GLASS! Have been going for 2 years and will continue to go as long as it is open!
