We rented a pontoon from Randy. The good was that it was last minute, the pontoon ran with no problems and Randy was friendly and responsive. The watch out is that you shouldn't expect a nice or modern pontoon. Ours was quite old, musty and we had to kill a spider or two. read more

I have mixed feelings about this rental experience. On one hand, I was looking to get out on the water asap since it was a perfect Saturday weather day -- and Randy's Rentals was the place to make that happen. On the other hand, it was a little rough around the edges. Their website pricing is out of date. They also charge a flat fee for gas surcharge. Online they say they offer a half hour rental for a jet ski, but once I arrived that wasn't an option. Hour minimum - understandable - but would be nice to have the information correct online. I walked by Randy's and couldn't get ahold of him on the phone, couldn't figure out which building to approach with all the signs, so I almost gave up on the boating idea. I would recommend texting him to coordinate - he was very responsive to texts. The jet ski I rented was dirty, and the first one they tried to set me up on wasn't working. Also note they have a vague rule that you have to stay where they can see you. That was a little strange for a boat rental place. Overall it worked for the purpose of getting out on the lake last minute, but is no luxury experience. read more

His people were all really nice icehouse was clean and fitting coldest weekend of the year so far so we only caught a couple small walleye a couple weeks back. Just going to state facts. First off I would like you to know this exact review was posted on his Facebook page as an honest review and he blocked me within minutes of putting it up -His house spots aren't prefished -house smelled like dead minnows -cots were pretty disgusting and I'm not picky. I promise. -HEATER went out for the entire one night we were there. Had to use my buddy heater that I thankfully brought. -when I texted randy on any suggestions to catch fish I was told "The fish need to swim through and it's about being at the right spot at the right time". -Had to leave at 6:45am with 3 small perch caught and released while being there for since 1pm the day prior. Go anywhere BUT here. This trip was painful and Randy has not done a thing to make it right after we slept with no heat and he was fully aware. read more

Terrible customer service, made reservations for 4 jet skis and told us we could get them at 4, we get there and tells us he needs to go fill them up with gas. Waited for 20 min, he comes back and asks if we're renting 2, we told him we were renting 4 then proceeds to say he only had 2. All of us saw he had 4 jet skis at his docks. Then proceeds to say right after that he has none at all. Then let's 2 other girls that got there at the same time as us to be able to rent jet skis. Randy was so accommodating! I called in the evening on Saturday with very little hope that he would have something available. To mu surprise he was able to fit my little family in. Check in was easy, he walked us through everything we needed to know. My only suggestion was to put a ladder on the platoon! I spent a good 10 minutes trying to climb back in, mainly my own physical fault lol other than that it was great. He even allowed my family and I to stay and swim along the shore. From the moment my family arrived at Randy's Rentals, I knew we were working with the Michael Jordan of customer service. His communication was friendly and timely. His demeanor was approachable. His instructions for driving the pontoon were comprehensive and understandable. Randy's exceptional service truly shined when we were having trouble with the pontoon in the middle of Lake Mille Lacs. I called Randy and he promptly arrived on his jetski to troubleshoot the challenge. It goes without saying, Randy's Rentals is a five star business. We went up to Randy's rentals this weekend for the 4th of july and rented a jet ski. The jet ski was run down and it's speedometer was broken as well as many other features and just seemed unsafe altogether. It kept stalling on us and burning oil. When we called he just said it'll eventually work. We also paid for 2 hours but were then told to come back in at the hour and forty minute mark. On the website, an hour is listed at $70, but in person costs $95. The day prior we had talked about booking kayakes and he actually had us down for after 2pm but he told us to give him a call once 2pm came around to make sure he had some available and we couldn't get through to him and never heard back. HORRIBLE service. To start off with the website says 70$/hr for a jet-ski & when we called it was 90$/hr. Ok whatever. Then we showed up for our reservations (4 jet-skis in total) One reservation was for three and another for one. After making us wait 30 mins after our reservation time of 4pm (he had to go get gas) he comes back and says "okay so reservation for 2 jet skis" (there were 6 of us) We told him we had two reservations for 4 jet-skis in total. He said he doesn't have four jet skis only 2. I asked him who takes the reservations because there were two of us that called with reservations for four jet-skis. He said he does but didn't take the reservations for four jet-skis..... How does that make any sense. After asking him who takes the reservations he got snappy and told us he didn't have any jet-skis. (Keep in mind he had 4 jet-skis but had people renting one of them) If you double book and messed up just say that!!! NEVER coming back. Trashy. read more

Randy is the man!!!! Came up here with a few guys to get away from the ladies and lose our little savings in the casino, and once our plans fell through elsewhere, I was scrambling to find a place that was affordable and nice. Randy saved us. He was able to work with my budget due to the fact that we only wanted to stay one night instead of the usual two night minimum, and he was very communicative during the entire process. That "Minnesota nice" never shone brighter than during my interactions with Randy. The house itself is awesome...a never before seen "Egyptian Minnesota cabin" feel. Randy is more cultured than anyone I know. And he has the relics to prove it. My ONE concern was the number of lady bugs that were in the house, but everyone I was with told me I was just being an LA diva (they're all from the Midwest) and that it wasn't a big deal. The weather was shitty the day we were there, unfortunately. But I can't imagine how awesome this place would be during the summer. NOTE TO ANY TECH ADDICT: THERE IS NO WIFI. Can you survive?! P.S. There's a shuttle that'll pick you up from here and take you to the casino, which is dry. And it's free! So be sure to get wasted here first before giving all your money away! read more

This place was disgusting, and Randy was disgusting to deal with. There was so much dust on all the kitschy crap on the walls that when you closed the door it stirred up in the house. There were junk cars in the lawn, frayed extension cords wrapped around the railings. Speaking of railings, there is one on the front deck that was a drop-off. The house is listed as a "cabin", but it just looks like his personal house on a busy road. Holes in the doors, stains on the ceilings, cob-webs, laundry left in the washing machine, it smelled so strong of air freshener, it made my pregnant wife nauseous. I couldn't smell it, but being pregnant, my wife has a better sense of smell. She said it smelled like cigarette smoke... covered with an ungodly amount of perfume. It was gross. When I informed him that my family was not comfortable staying there, he came and got in my face. I was actually thinking he was getting ready to hit me. He insulted my wife and scared my family. I tried to get my money back, and he sent some some "terms and conditions" letter to Discover. There were never any terms and conditions letter at time of reserving. Bottom line is, if you don't mind staying in a dirty, gross place, with an ogre for a host, It's GREAT! read more

An honest customer review... My girlfriend and her sister arrived at the cabin at Randy's Rentals and realized that it was not as described and the photos online were not as shown in the photos. There was no fire pit and the cabin was not in the best condition and certainly not worth the price. So they decided we would only stay for the 2 nights already paid for in advance. I arrived separate and the second I got out of my car, I found my girlfriend, 45, and her sister, 48, nearly in tears. They said Randy wants another $610 IN CASH and no sooner they said that, there was Randy standing outside the cabin door looking to collect for the rest of the stay. I go out to talk to him and inform him that we would only be staying 2 nights and would not be paying the additional amount due to an unexpected event (parent in hospice). He refused to talk to me, saying he only wanted to talk to girlfriend's sister, since "she was the one who made the reservation." It was clear that he didn't want to talk to me because I am not easily intimidated. The main problem with Randy's Rentals is the price. He advertises "House, 2 Bedrooms 2 queens 1 twin 4 sleeper sofas +(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-10)" but told us that because there were 2 families, that we had to pay nearly double. We had 3 adults, 4 kids and 2 dogs and the total cost for 4 nights was going to be $1200. That's completely insane, especially for non-weekend days (Sun - Thur). $300 per night for a double-wide trailer with no pool or beach front. Insane. Randy didn't leave. He stood 4 feet from the door... just standing there, waiting for more cash. It was weird and super uncomfortable. It was like a secret shopper standing at the exit waiting for a shoplifter to leave the store so he could nab him. Again, super uncomfortable. After he went and sat in a chair in the front yard of the cabin, we decided to leave and take the matter up with VSOP. The cabin? It was a trailer. Well, a converted trailer. The interior pics from the website are relatively accurate, but "Fire pit next to lake for your evening pleasure." Nope. "Picnic tables for outdoor eating." Nope. But the biggest distraction was the fact that it is literally located with the super busy Highway 169 in the backyard. 100 yards from sure death for our 2 dogs. You know, the ones Randy wanted us to pay $80 extra for. Here are other completely accurate and truthful issues: - He kept mentioning a "contract" that we agreed with. He sent an email with the cost that we did not respond to. - When asked what the $10 per dog per day charge was for, he couldn't give me an answer, just said "I can charge anything I want for my business." - CASH ONLY??? You're a business. Supposedly legitimate, but CASH ONLY. And 10 minutes after we arrived paying up-front for the rest of the stay??? Seemed entirely desperate. - Cabin is advertised as "sleeps 2-10," but if you have extra people, you pay dearly. - $1200 total for Sunday through Thursday with 3 adults, 4 kids and 2 dogs. And you got no free recreational rentals in that price. Ridiculous! There are hundreds of much, much better places where your dogs will not be killed by traffic and where you can sit comfortably in front of a fire at the end of the day. I was afraid Randy was going to start charging me for each beer I had in my cooler. We booked through VRBO, which was horrible. We ended up staying for 1 hour. We disputed the charges as the place was clearly not as advertised. No refund. No credit. I will NEVER use VRBO again, as they are worthless. And finally... I'm pretty sure the reviews on Yelp are fake. Why do 2 separate reviews both include the phrase "Randy is the man!???" Suspicious. (Randy, now's your turn to respond and simply say this was all our fault and that we didn't understand. But when you do, please make sure you point out that the total charge for 3 adults, 4 kids and 2 dogs in mid-week was going to be at least $1200, assuming you didn't upcharge me for my beers.) read more

Very unprofessional. We made reservations and had proof he had confirmed it through messages, we showed up and he said he didn't have a boat for us. He told us to "relax ladies" after we had driven 3 hours for a sexist flake to not be able to rent us a boat. Don't come here and don't waste your money. read more

Terrible!!! We planned a two night ice fishing trip through Randy's Rentals on Mille Lacs and right from the beginning it was a bad experience. They were not ready for us when we got there and we had to wait for them to drill the holes. The door of the sleeper ice house was broken so you had to slam it multiple times before it would finally catch and actually close. The wind swung it open multiple times and we finally had to makeshift a lock with a bungee cord. All the blinds in the cabin were broken (see pictures), and the cushions on the table and beds were gross! We were told on the phone by Randy that we would have two full beds as there were two couples, but we ended up with a set of single bunk beds and a table that converted to a bed. The worst part of the trip was that the lights in the building must have had a leak because when we turned them on after about 15 minutes the entire place smelled of gas. So much so that we all ended up with headaches. The mantle on one light was hanging on by a thread and when we asked if they would replace it, Randy seemed annoyed and said "we don't replace them unless they are clearly torn" even though we already mentioned it was. Needless to say we didn't want to stay the night in a small cabin with all those fumes so we decided to leave after only being there a total of 7 hours. Randy then refused to reimburse us there $350 we spent on the house. Knowing we had been there for half a day getting half of our money back would have been okay with us but Randy copped a big attitude and refused. He then proceeded to blame us for the blinds even though my pictures show they were like that when we arrived!! I have contacted the BBB on this. Not reimbursing us for leaving due to our health concern with the fumes is ridiculous!! read more

Feb. 5 2021. My Son and Daughter just spent 350.00 for a weekend of fishing in one of Randys rentals. As night fell on there first 3 hours they turned on the propane lights. immediately smelled propane enough to be concerned and get headaches. they immediately left the fish house and called the resort to voice there concern and to let them know about the hazard. Not feeling safe they packed up and left the fish house. when getting back to shore they asked for a refund but Randy said no way you are free to leave. WHAT we will be talking to the BBB and Attorney General. He would rather possible death of a fishing group then refunding . terrible person terrible rental read more

My husband, friend, and her 2 kids rented ice house number 9 last weekend. We had the best time ever! It was very hectic when we first arrived, but Randy's employees were great! They gave us advice on what lures, bait, and which hole to use. We had trouble with the table in the house and Randy came out and helped us with it. Our ice holes froze over during the night and Randy was there as soon as we called him to open the holes. I recommend Randy's Rentals to everyone who wants to have a nice and warm time on Lake Mille Lacs! read more

This is a great place to go to and relax. They have a home that you can rent. The fishing is great either in the summer or in the winter. In the winter they have ice houses available for rent. They have heaters in the ice houses which mean you can relax with out all of the extra layers of clothing. If you have questions the staff is there to answer them for you. Make sure you ask Randy to show you the picture of the Musky that his wife Angie caught that's enough to get your blood flowing. Of course my favorite are the Walleye's this is a very tasty fish. My husband and son rented kayaks here because Izaty's was short one kayak to fit all 7 of us. First off, Randy told them we would be able to paddle from each direction and easily meet in the middle between Randy's and Izaty's - NOT - they are 7 miles apart! Second, the guys got over there only to realize they were open top, cheap kayaks, that were narrow and tippy (probably purchased from Walmart). Once they were on the water they found out the kayaks were FILLED with spiders that came out of everywhere. They killed as many as they could without tipping over and had to head back. When they told Randy about the issue he couldn't have cared less and wouldn't refund the two hours they paid for. We would not go back there for any rentals of any kind ever again. Made it clear to my family that he could care less whether or not we had a decent experience with his services. We had reserved a pontoon and corresponded with Randy via text messages. When we arrived we looked at the pontoon which was very old and the pictures on his website don't show the entire boats condition. Mold and green algae on the carpet! When we decided to follow through with the rental he said that he was adding on an additional fee for credit card processing and said he had told me to bring cash. Since we corresponded via text messaging I looked through them and nowhere did he say to bring cash. Horrible business owner! Definitely doesn't understand how to get repeat customers and what good customer service is all about. I would not recommend his company for any pontoon rentals. read more

Fake 5 star reviews by his friends and family. This place was a dump. Cabin was run down and dirty and sandwiched between 169 and a frontage road. Randy demanded $600 CASH upon arrival and said it was the only form of payment he would accept (smells like tax evasion.) He wouldn't let us stay for the first 2 nights that we prepaid for without paying for the third and forth days in cash. We were so uncomfortable there we left and he kept our full deposit. read more

Me and my nephew rented a ice house the past two winters and had great time. Fishing was good, the houses were clean and warm. The bunks were comfortable. I liked the accommodations and service so well it has become a annual event for my nephew and I. I even scheduled a company trip up there in the 12 man house and all my co-workers also had a great time. read more

Worst ice fishing experience in 30 years. Ice house was a dirty dump, generator hook up didn't work, lights were burnt out, holes were iced over. Did not get one bite, what a scam. These guys don't know where the fish are, but know if you have paid. They should be more worried about if their houses are on fish instead of if every single truck has paid for using their precious lake access. He charged us weekend rate for weekday fishing. Oh and surprise!: We had to pay the ice road access fee in addition to the ice house rental. Customer service is not Randy's priority, stuffing untraceable 20 dollar bills in his pocket is. Randy is the man! I highly recommend the guided tour. After a detailed safety instruction (as I had never snowmobiled before) we headed out to ride on multiple terrains. This was very important as snowmobiling on a wide open lake is quite different then snowmobiling threw the woods. My group and I were on vacation and the memories we have of this excursion are the best souvenir of the trip. read more
