We enjoy the paddle boat rental, the office/store, the scenic views, the kind other campers along with the activities. We only live a half hour from Barnum but it is such a great place to camp. It is quickly becoming our favorite campground. The beaches are so well maintained and the lake is clear as glass. So worth the drive wherever you're coming from.

You don't really want to touch anything. You cannot lock the toilette stalls and the doors just swing open. This goes for both the mens and women's bath rooms, I guess the only thing good about it, is that its free.

I had to leave a message and when the management finally came he was rude, and asked if we had "messed with any buttons" then left before I could respond. They would not call to get the air fixed as it was Saturday. We had to wait until Monday eve for the air to be fixed (needed freon, you would think they would have checked this). They put a giant dock right where the beach used to be, boat engines 5 feet from the dock. I don't think that this is environmentally safe, but they don't seem to care. Very unprofessional, need customer service training! The beach was filthy, nothing put away at end of day. I won't be returning, my 86 year old mother almost died of heat stroke. We were "upgraded", his words, to a large cabin by the road where we could hear all the traffic, and not see the lake. We also had to move three times with no help from them, as I said - they could care less.

They definitely have not spent time cleaning or maintaining. The canopy was strung together with random bolts, wire and string. It was not able to be taken down since it was broken so badly. I asked if the lights work, the attendant told me it was illegal to be on MN lakes after 8:15. This is no where near true as cabin cruisers anchor overnight and fisherman definitely go out at night! Basically an excuse to justify the poor condition of the boat. The radio and horn also did not work. The gates on the pontoon were all bungee strapped shut. Seats and carpet were filthy. So in all, it's your only choice on sand lake for boat rentals so I guess they do not have to try. The women who rented it could not even tell me about slot limits on the lake..... How could these two both be clueless on fishing and boating on a lake in which they do business! Disappointed!

The night before it was me and one other camper in 10 sites. We have 10 walk in tent sites. You need a reservation. It's $15 a night for up to six people per campsite. There's a picnic table in a fire at each site. There are pit toilets. There is no electricity anywhere in the park including no lights even in the parking lot. It's awesome. Great to see the night sky. On the east side of the park there is a picnic pavilion and several picnic tables with a charcoal grill On rainbow lake. Straight Lake has a boat access so does rainbow lake, but you have to carry the boat from the parking lot. Non-motorized boats only Like canoes and kayaks. Several miles of singletrack hiking trails as well as the Ice Age national scenic Trail which transects the park. I had trouble finding firewood in the area so I could not have a campfire. You're supposed to bring it in from only 10 miles away and the gas station in Frederick and Luck did not have any and I didn't see any roadside stand selling wood. STATE PARK: 5/5 We loved walking a bit of the state park over the weekend! The suspension bridge is super cool, and it's really fun to walk on and explore the unique rock formations along the water.
