Some of the courts and fields have lighting available and some of the softball fields can be reserved. I enjoyed the walking track today, some of which is natural and some of which is paved. A great walk through some trees and shade. There's apparently 2.1 miles of track, even if I only used a small portion of it. Kids will enjoy the playground which has benches nearby for the adults to use while the kids are playing. There is parking out the wazoo here. Just not allowed overnight. It's definitely out-of-the-way and you wouldn't know it was there unless you're looking for it. However the actual park once you are through the entrance and to the main crux of it is quite big and has a shocking number of sports facilities ranging from fields for football and soccer to tennis courts to a golf course. It is very much intertwined with the nature around it but also clear and organized enough so you feel you aren't just in the woods. There are a scattered number of parking lots that may be good for normal capacity but I feel for big games on the fields/facilities it may get packed quickly.

My niece went to school in this area and came to the adjoining community center after school. It looked the same as it did years ago. The park has several big fields, basketball courts, a small playground, a sand pit, restrooms (which aren't very clean), a picnic area and some other amenities. But IMO, it needs some TLC and a facelift. For its size, I think it could stand for some more equipment and newer fixtures. I'm glad this neighborhood has a place for kids and kids at heart to play, yet it is in dire need of a spruce!

They have public bathrooms and water fountains near these picnic tables. There is a large area toward the back of the park which has swings jungle gym in a play area for children. They also have basketball courts a volleyball net with sand and plenty of soccer fields to play A variety of sports. Parking can be quite tricky if you cannot find a spot in there nearby parking lot you could always park across the street from the park. However be mindful of the parking is also designated for the apartment buildings of the gallery nearby. If you park across the street from the park beware that you are crossing a very large and busy intersection of traffic as majority of traffic is coming off of the interstate. Abide by the laws and use the cross walks for safety. My group of friends and I utilize the volleyball net and sand volleyball pit. While the net is not the greatest of quality and does sag it does provide an ample area for volleyball to be played. The sandpit is not easily marked for boundaries for an actual game however there is some sort of haphazard ribbon around the perimeter of the pit. I would recommend wearing flip-flops or sandals if you wish to play in that area. The biggest downside to this park is some of broken glass near the bathrooms and water fountains. Be mindful when children and adults are playing to not be barefooted around these areas. We came across a good amount of broken glass scattered around. Overall the park seems to be used quite often especially on the weekends such as on Saturday and Sunday. One of the smallest yet busiest parks in the museum district, and one of the best hidden secrets. Keep in mind that there are no dogs are allowed on premises, as well as no alcohol, weapons etc. and it closes at dark.

The sand pit is lovely and perfect for open-ended play. It has wooden play tables and an unstructured pit. People leave toys there for everyone to share, and quite a collection has grown. The playground has well-constructed equipment, many of which is differently-ambled-friendly. There are also nice porch-swing-like bench swings for parents to chill out on. There are bathrooms that are well maintained and clean. Trails are well maintained and expansive. Plenty of Ingress/Pokémon Go/Wizards Unite stops. Ice cream trucks (plural) visit frequently, particularly in the summer months. Even though it's located in a developed area, Huguenot Park feels like it is the middle of untouched nature.

Fighting Creek Park is a delight, and such an unexpectedly well appointed park for such a rural…read morecounty. It is well positioned within walking distance of the county library, the YMCA, and the soccer fields. It boasts lovely walking trails, a frisbee golf course (which while usable could use some TLC), a lovely little creek with a charming covered bridge to cross it, and a multi-tiered playground which is among my favorite playgrounds in the surrounding counties because of it's lovely rural setting, its shade from the tree coverage, its new playground equipment, and its easy proximity to the creek area. We have an easy time navigating with a range of kids. Parents can position themselves between the playground where the younger kids can play, and the creek where the more nature-oriented kids want to explore, while it's safe enough for the teens to venture up to the library or to hike through the network of easily navigable trails. There are two covered picnic areas with grills. There are benches at the playground areas. In a delightfully educationally inspired move, the gardens and forests closest to the playgrounds and trails have their flora labeled so you can learn about the plants in the area. There is a texture garden near the parking lot with plants designed to touch and feel. One of the trails is an exercise trail with equipment stations for pull-ups, balance beam, and other outdoor workouts. Just a delightful spot right where you'd least expect it.

If you're looking for a less busy river park in Richmond, the 42nd Street Entrance is the place for you. There is a small parking lot that usually has a spot open and if not, you can park along the road. 42nd Street Entrance is RVA's hidden river gem. You'll need to take quite a few stairs and walk over rocks to get to the river. Once you park, you'll walk down some stairs to an elevated walkway that has even more stairs to go down. The elevated walkway has a great view of the train tracks and offers some pretty forest views. If you're looking for the river, once you get down the stairs you'll head slightly to the right and go down the very subtle path (on your left). You'll cross some rocks and up a few more steps. Keep going forward on the path and you'll find the river. Do note you have to hop or climb through some rocks to find a good spot on the river. This is a wonderful park to escape the city and enjoy some Richmond nature. I highly recommend checking this spot out. It's a great spot to swim at, have a picnic, and hang out with friends and the people you love.

Its a unique little park, made entirely of concrete geometric forms (hence the name) which could occupy kids for a brief visit, be a perfect little shady spot for a picnic or just be a seclusive spot for artistic activities like painting or photography (being that it offers some unique perspective) I have always enjoyed this secret little zone although I tend to be one for a more natural park. However, its about time some others discovered it and got to enjoy it too. You will see no signs and you won't find it if your not looking for it. You must go through the alley ways or either the 100 block of Floyd ave or the 100 block of Vine st. Its tucked behind the houses there. If you skateboard or do bike tricks, you won't wanna miss this gem!
