Always our favorite place to take a walk! The 1.25 mile white trail is paved and has a lot of ups and downs. I take my dog and he is exhausted by the end of it. There is a great dog park, we do not go to because my dog is anti-social. The rest of the park is full of tennis courts, basketball courts, a playground and baseball fields. There is always something going on. It is great to see families out enjoying the trails and the nature center. Highly recommend!

After picking up boxed lunches, we came to the Rockwood Park for a picnic. Wow! What a nice park! We were half expecting to see Leslie Knope and her P & R crew out here! Upon entering, the signs were helpful, in showing us directions to various features of this park off of Courthouse Road in Chesterfield. Before we settled into a small covered shelter near one of the baseball fields for our meal, we drove the perimeter of the park to see all of the amenities it had to offer. We saw the Ruff House Dog Park, where several folks were exercising with their furry friends! We drove by several baseball/softball fields - they boast 7, and basketball courts - 3, pickleball courts - 8, and tennis courts - 6! In addition they have an archery range, and 3 horseshoe pits! Sports enthusiasts will be in heaven here!! Due to the coronavirus, the huge well kept playground, the concession stand and some of the courts were closed, but we did see some people playing pickleball. The walking/running tracks that surround the park are wide so as to maintain social distancing. We took several laps around the track and enjoyed the stops along the way, like the hopscotch board and the interactive play stops! (Once the park opens back to full capacity, you can call to reserve courts and fields.) There are grills and volleyball nets at various picnic shelters on the premises. The maintenance and cleanliness of the whole park was astounding! As we walked the track, we saw people biking, playing, picnicking, etc. on the pristine grounds. It wasn't overly crowded and everyone we encountered adhered to the posted signs regarding social distancing. The restroom facilities were closed due to the virus. The main office was surrounded by groomed foliage and plants. There's also an arboretum and a nature center. Beautiful trees, plants, shrubs and flowers make this park a magnet drawing in nature lovers. Miles of well designed walking/nature trails will be a lesson in discovery with wildlife and plant life in abundance. The cozy, woodsy feel is relaxing and revitalizing. We thoroughly enjoyed the fresh air and the splendor of this park. One of the nicest parks we have visited in the area! The Parks & Rec Department deserve kudos!!

The trails and nature center are fantastic. Both paved and dirt trails weave through the forest. There are several spots along the trail with a posted map to help you navigate. Some of the trails can get very muddy and slippery. There are a lot of creatures around, deer, hawks, snakes to name a few. The paved trails are great and make enjoying nature accessible to everyone. They are wide enough to accommodate groups of people passing each other. I have seen people using wheelchairs on the trails, both electric and manual. The paved trails do not have potholes, however there are spots where they have been patched. There are benches throughout for rest stops. The nature center is open friday-sunday during fall/winter/spring. They house a variety of turtles, snakes, toads, frogs and even a honeybee hive. It is fairly small inside, but it is a nice break after coming out of the woods with a toddler. There is a water fountain inside. There is also a small pond in front of the nature center where you can often spy a frog or two on a lily pad. The playground I have a mixed opinion. If you are taking a young child, scan the playground for older kids/teens before parking near it/letting it get in your childs line of vision. My most recent playground trip was cut short because there was a large group including a couple 13/14 year old boys who were intimidating toddlers and knocking kids down. Most of the visits have been fine when there were only young children.

This park is pretty big with lots to do. We mainly come here to walk the trails and use the playground. Toward the back of the park is a nature center. The building has numerous reptiles on display for you to look at. There is a parking lot there that leads to the walking trails. When you look at the map of the trails it looks real long. But I'm actuality it is not a bad walk. The playground is pretty big also. Thee are a few slides, lots of climbing, and swings. That recently put in a few more benches and some new swings. We have also seen(but not used) baseball fields, basketball courts, a dog park, archery range... It is worth your time to stop by.

Did a nice walk on one of the hiking trails. They had several options to choose from. It's a very large park with many activities including tennis, basketball etc.

This is a great park with many things to do. If your into sports or walking around on one of the trails, this park is for you. It offers multiple parking lots, multiple trails, a clean environment. A great place for that morning walk or taking the kids out to play. If your into sports, try tennis, baseball or even jog around. Keep up the great work Chesterfield County

This is the county's oldest park, and it's not fancy. It doesn't have electricity or lots of bells and whistles, but it's a beautiful spread of over 150 acres with ball fields, tennis courts, an archery range, nature trails, and a nature center. Back in the day when people actually went to parks to be outdoors and take hikes or have picnics, this was one of the most popular parks in Richmond. Today, Southside families still enjoy letting their kids run around here on a nice day.

I took a little break and just reflected here. Artist friendly

The State of Virginia need more parks like this one. Perhaps one in every city. This park is children friendly, pet friendly, walker friendly, biker friendly, hiker friendly, sport friendly, and excercise motivating. I had to drive from Chester to find a decent place to walk with paved or dirt trails that are maintained and marked so you know how far you have traveled. A separated, fenced in dog park, Wow! Port a Pots along the trails, clean and liter free, scenic veiw that will captivate you as you get in the miles. Before you know it, you would have walked 5 mi and still want more because there are more trails to walk. You can not go wrong driving to this park for anything! I enjoyed my time here and look forward to sharing this treasure with my wife... Oh did I mention that it's couple friendly aslo? Well, Virginia is for Lovers!

I love to come to this park. They have great trails for walking, or running. I see people with there dogs, and strollers as well. Exercise equipment throughout the trail. For the pave trail, it goes about 1 1/4 miles around. They're shelters there if u want to spark up the grill with a bunch of people. This park has baseball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts. Plenty to do for everyone.

There is so much to explore here and offers something for every level of stepper. Whether you're looking for an intense hike or just a leisurely stroll, this is a great spot to be. The park has multiple entrances and different access points which would make multiple visits here still feel fresh. The park is very hilly and has a lot of inclines so keep that in mind. Once you get down to the park you'll be greeted by the lake trail where you can walk in a loop around the stunning lake. You can also do catch and release fishing here which I saw multiple people doing. While the lake trail is paved, this park also has a variety of cobblestone and natural trails as well. The walks are pretty shaded and all have stunning views of either greenery or some water component. This is a great walking spot if you're wanting to really dive into nature and experience some stunning views. This is definitely a more mild intensity walk mainly because of the inclines, they also have stair entrances to get on the trail as well. There were quite a few people on the trail, consisting of families, groups and even solo walkers. Despite its almost secluded nature this park felt relatively safe with the amount of people present. You may want a trail buddy if veering into the natural trails but the paved lake loop was pretty open making it feel safe for solo walkers. Overall, with its variety of entrances, views, and the moderate challenge, this park is a great choice for regular walkers and nature lovers!

We arrived around 5:30pm and spent until about 7pm exploring all the walking paths. There is something here for everyone. There is a huge playground for little ones, there are paths for walkers/runners/dog walkers, and there were even a bunch of people fishing in the lakes. I love how child-friendly this park is. It felt like most of the bridges, benches, and other fun structures were made by girl or boy scouts. There is a huge parking lot so it's easy to drive to this spot. They also have very clean restrooms. We didn't go in to the nature center, but that was pretty too. I liked that this park had a lot to explore. The water was low enough at one section for us to go to a little island in the middle of one lake. While not all the trees have their leaves yet, I image this is even prettier when everything is in bloom. It was a very serene and lovely place to explore.

This place has plenty of parking, lots of playground equipment, and (as the name suggests) three small lakes to walk around. It's worth noting that the main lake (closes to the park entrance) is where fishing is permitted and has the newest/nicest path as well. The middle lake is enjoyable though is a bit rougher. The far lake was damaged in storms in the past so some of it is pretty rough but still enjoyable to explore. I make sure to hit all three lakes every visit, though if you want a nice clean experience, stick to the main lake. The nature center is nice but fair warning: it's pretty small and won't take more than 10-15 minutes to enjoy in its entirety. Still, the staff member there tends to be nice and there are a few small animals in the little displays there. If you want a fun place to walk (especially if you have kids who like playground equipment), this is a great spot to do it. Overall: 5.0 stars ---- Pros: - Beautiful walking spot. - Pleasant staff. - Lots of free parking. - Fun (if small) nature center. - Plenty of playground equipment for kids. Cons: - It would be great if they fully re-built the third lake, though I suppose the rugged nature of it is part of the charm.
