Very nice campground. We are mtb bikers and the mtb trails are a huge bonus! We had spot 43 and it was literally at the head of a mtb trail. Pros - * spacious spots with W/E * leveled tent spot included on site * fire wood huts placed around park * clean bath house * MTB trails for every level rider * swimming lake/canoeing/paddle boats/huge pool including children's splash pad * gift store in front and small camp store in campground * picnic table and fire ring with grill at each site. * well shaded camping spots * hiking trails * camping spots were concrete or gravel * pet friendly Cons - * MTB signage was a little confusing * only one laundry facility * only playground was closed * ladies bathroom had two stalls with poo that looked like it was there for a few days. Not sure how often the bathrooms are cleaned, but the toilet just needed flushing. I flushed the toilets ‍ In conclusion, it was a really nice campground. Grounds were immaculate and staff were friendly. It poured with rain all night and where we were wasn't flooded at all. Nice place to camp.

Pocahontas State Park is beautiful. The largest State Park in VA with 7919 acres. I drove to tje back where the pool is. Pool is a light word for what I saw. They had kid sprinklers and as well as large slides! Everyone seemed to be having a good time. - I took a hike across the river bridge. This was a terrific trail, but it was also extreme weather this week and though I always carry too much water, today was not enough. I had drank it all with one mile left to go and it. Was. Hot. Out. Here!!! I was so happy to see that bridge. (my starting point). I was incredibly worn out and sweating so hard. I went up the hill to the car and used the water fountain to pour water all over my head. Anyway it's a Fabulous Park with, flushing toilets, water fountains and kayaks. The Swift Creek is really pretty with its twists and turns and lillypads and wildlife. I saw a blue heron. Deer, turtles, tons of squirrels and skins. Many signs of Beavers. What a great day at this VA State Park. I highly recommend it.

Great benches to set your phone up on a timer to get a group photo!

In the past month we have been to Pocahontas State Park two times and hiked about 9 miles worth of trails. It is such a beautiful and well taken care of park. We have been able to share it with our friends who have come for a short weekend trip during COVID. There is plenty of parking at all of the trailheads. We enjoy the Beaver Lake Trail and the Troopers Tribute Loop. Also there are a lot of benches to set your phone up for timed group photos! Always fun to have a mini-photo shoot!

We had so much fun at Pocahontas State Park. We hiked the beaver trail and it was beautiful in the morning. It was an easy trek and we got amazing views of the lake while seeing lots of baby frogs hopping along the trail. We stopped at the visitor center near the trail afterward and we're so glad we did. The staff were so friendly and they shared so much knowledge with us about the wildlife at the park. We're grown women but we felt like kids on a field trip again, it was the best feeling. The intern working introduced us to Cornflake the albino cornsnake and Houdini the black rat snake who were both equally terrifying and adorable. The head ranger was also so nice letting us in on all the great information about the park. We definitely will go back again to enjoy more trails and look out for more snakes and frogs.

Great park! Although, I've only been here for the Richmond Ragnar Trail relay race, I really enjoy the trails! There are some beautiful views and cute bridges to cross.

This was our first state park we went to in VA and it is still our favorite so far. It's practically in our backyard. The park is beautiful and well maintained. We love hiking the trails and bringing the kids to see the nature. Love the path to the little damn. So peaceful!

My dog loved it here! We will be back! They have a pool area which I am excited for, various different areas, a river with kayaking and lots of trails through woods.

We paid to get into the Aquatic center and was in the facility for about 15 minutes when staff started blowing whistles and making everyone get out of all of the pools. Everyone was out for about 5 minutes and then they told everyone to get back in. About 5 minutes after getting back into the water, everyone was ordered back out again. There was about 250 kids from "camp" classes there that were allowed to get into a separate pool in a corner of the facility but it was definitely not meant to hold that many people. Everyone else was forced to stand in the scorching heat on the concrete. After standing outside for about 15 minutes my husband went to the front to ask about what to expect and expressed concern for our immunocompromised family members that were present. It was clear at that time that they were cleaning feces from the pool with a net and vacuum. The front desk staff said that they only refund if the pool is closed down for 40 minutes and the pools were expected to open back up just under the 40 minute mark. They were still vacuuming up feces at that time. I am not sure why they had all of those kids get into another pool when all of the other pools had to be shut down due to the issue but it definitely looked like a safety concern because of how overcrowded it was. Many people who were not with the camps began to leave at that point. We were very concerned about the sanitation standard after watching what was occurring and also chose to leave. We were there to celebrate a birthday and it was a very disappointing experience to say the least. It was a lot of money wasted. I do not recommend and would not return.

Are the playgrounds open? I just brought the kids to Hopewell City Park to find out that the playgrounds were taped off/closed. 😞

Here, you get it all--shade sail covering the adult area with many picnic tables, a separate patio area for adults with chairs, a giant playpen-like structure with a bouncy ball in it and lined with garage tiles for safe falls for younger toddlers. There is a play set for younger kids and for older. I would say about age 3 to about 8 or 10. There is a car on a spring that rocks; a big, spiral slide, straight slights, a fake climbing mountain with seats on top, and tons and tons of options to climb and swing, including a jungle gym and even spiral-style monkey bars (they go in circle, rather than just in a straight line. There's a balance beam, different types of swings, and really everything you could possibly want. All that's missing is the kids, really. Absolutely amazing place. The greatest likelihood to catch other kids to play with is before lunchtime. The only downside is that there is zero shade on the actual playground itself. Very important note: This place is public and at the back of a church parking lot. Turn in right beside the blue library sign, and drive alllll the way back. You cannot see the playground from the street at all, not even upon turning into the lot.

The trail serves as the Northern trailhead for the river trail system and is absolutely gorgeous. The walk is mostly shaded by trees and features great scenery of the water. We spotted a variety of creatures which made the walk a bit more fun. The entire trail is paved and is wheelchair accessible making it a great option for anyone who wants to check it out. Despite the gorgeous scenery this trail offers it has limited visibility due to the curves and foliage that is present. At some points during it you may not be able to see who is around the corner or behind you on the trail, if that is important to you, you may want to check out the trail with a trail buddy rather than going alone. Overall, this is a lovely spot if you're looking for a paved trail that offers some scenic views. This park also offers fishing spots and you can bike, run or walk the trail making it a great option for a variety of activities.

We arrived around 5:30pm and spent until about 7pm exploring all the walking paths. There is something here for everyone. There is a huge playground for little ones, there are paths for walkers/runners/dog walkers, and there were even a bunch of people fishing in the lakes. I love how child-friendly this park is. It felt like most of the bridges, benches, and other fun structures were made by girl or boy scouts. There is a huge parking lot so it's easy to drive to this spot. They also have very clean restrooms. We didn't go in to the nature center, but that was pretty too. I liked that this park had a lot to explore. The water was low enough at one section for us to go to a little island in the middle of one lake. While not all the trees have their leaves yet, I image this is even prettier when everything is in bloom. It was a very serene and lovely place to explore.

This place has plenty of parking, lots of playground equipment, and (as the name suggests) three small lakes to walk around. It's worth noting that the main lake (closes to the park entrance) is where fishing is permitted and has the newest/nicest path as well. The middle lake is enjoyable though is a bit rougher. The far lake was damaged in storms in the past so some of it is pretty rough but still enjoyable to explore. I make sure to hit all three lakes every visit, though if you want a nice clean experience, stick to the main lake. The nature center is nice but fair warning: it's pretty small and won't take more than 10-15 minutes to enjoy in its entirety. Still, the staff member there tends to be nice and there are a few small animals in the little displays there. If you want a fun place to walk (especially if you have kids who like playground equipment), this is a great spot to do it. Overall: 5.0 stars ---- Pros: - Beautiful walking spot. - Pleasant staff. - Lots of free parking. - Fun (if small) nature center. - Plenty of playground equipment for kids. Cons: - It would be great if they fully re-built the third lake, though I suppose the rugged nature of it is part of the charm.
