The beginning of the trail does consist of a winding descent so keep that in mind as the incline back can be hard for some. Once you get down you'll find yet another playground with a fun insect/nature theme. Making this a fun spot for kids and families. The amazing part of this park is the bridge that allows you to walk through the marshlands, the bridge does shake a little bit but overall felt pretty sturdy. It offers stunning views and is a lovely deviation from other nature trails. There are a variety of marked natural trails that vary in intensity/length making this place a great spot for all levels. Along the trails are also little lookouts so you can really enjoy the views. The trails are a bit secluded so you may want a trail buddy if you plan to walk past the marsh bridge if visibility is important to you. The trails are mainly wooded which offers a nice amount of shade which is great for the warmer months. There is also tons of parking available and multiple shelters for picnics or events. Overall, this is an amazing park and definitely worth a little drive to check out!

It's a fantastic addition to Hopewell, featuring a lovely park for kids and an eco-conscious redirected rainwater flower bed that serves as home for bees and blooms with color in the spring/summer. To your left, the path is covered in Kudzu vines, maintained by Hopewell Parks and Rec, creating a gorgeous backdrop for selfies or group photos. On your right, the scenic Appomattox River provides a lovely view of the water. Whether you're looking to get some exercise, have a picnic, practice mindfulness, or enjoy one of the many events, like the spectacular fireworks in July. This spot is a real "walk" in the park!

There is a large playground and 2 bathroom buildings which are taken care of pretty often. There is also a boat ramp where you can put your boat or kayaks in the Swift Creek Reservoir. I say that because there is ZERO shade or coverage on the playground. All of the play equipment was too hot to utilize and there was no working water fountain or restroom. On a cooler day my review might have been more charitable, maybe even a 3 star because we would have actually played on the playground. Instead we sort of kicked some mulch around and burned our bottoms swinging on the swings for a few minutes before leaving. Since we were in a roadtrip and just passing through we couldn't be too choosey. I will say that the paved walking path along the perimeter was decent and the dog was a fan. There were a few picnic tables under some big shade trees and the temp felt 10 degrees cooler.

They are open from dawn until dusk and offer some of the cleanest facilities around. It is a great place to hold a family gathering. They have a pavilion with a grill available to have hotdogs and hamburgers with the friends and family. They have two basketball courts available. If you're looking to play tennis, they have great courts available with high fences to keep the balls within the court. If you have a baseball or football team, they have baseball and football fields available. They look like they are well maintained and offer great spots tor team sports. Fort Lee practice fields are right across from entrance as well, but that doesn't seem any better when I can literally see bars & fences from a dinky "parking lot" which is really just a gravel spot for maybe 8 cars only...There are no clear paved trails from gravel lot. I'm hoping we missed another entrance that looks more presentable but if not, dont waste your time coming out to this dump.

There are no playgrounds or picnic facilities here. Lots of old trees and shade. Much history happened here. In 1812 The Petersburg Volunteers camped on the site before leaving for the Canadian border, and in 1824 General Lafayette was greeted with much fanfare. At the beginning of the Civil War volunteers enlisted for service in the Confederate army, and then at the end of the war, a hospital was erected on the site during the siege of Petersburg. There is street parking (no meters) on three sides of the park. Be aware of residentially-challenged in the park if that is something that concerns you.
