SCAM! I hadn't gotten my racquets restrung in DC yet and didn't know where to go, so I called this…read moreplace. The guy offered to pick up and drop off my racquets, which seemed convenient. I specifically asked for a white grip, and he didn't mention any issues--just said he could provide the service of restringing and gripping. Initially, he said he would return my racquets the following morning, but that kept getting pushed back. It ultimately took five days. While the delay itself wasn't a huge issue, he repeatedly promised next-day delivery and kept changing it. When I finally got my racquets back, the original grip hadn't even been removed--he just wrapped a new one over it which wasn't the grip style or color I asked for. The finishing tape wasn't even properly placed at the top of the handle. When I went to play, the strings were actually worse than when I gave them to him. I ended up wasting $90, and to make matters worse, he lost my dampener. When I called him about it, he took an hour to respond and then admitted he had lost it, handing me a random one from his car. Absolutely horrible quality and service on every front.

Two of my kids, ages 13 and 7, have been taking classes with one of the Play Your Court instructors…read morefor about 8 weeks now. I love that my kids can just walk up to the neighborhood court by themselves and get a private lesson. (We just paid $10 more per lesson to add a child.) Classes would have been cheaper, but I couldn't find any near us at convenient times. Now we get to schedule our lesson when we are free (although we have been sticking with a pretty regular time of Sunday mornings). Private lessons are definitely more expensive than classes, but I've heard that instructors can run $50-100 per hour, so we feel that we are getting a pretty good deal. My kids really look forward to their lesson, and were sad at the thought of suspending lessons during winter. Their instructor, Jen, is very kind, patient, and thorough with working on all the different strokes and skills. This program has been a great solution for us because of the convenience and flexibility, as well as the low-key nature and special attention of private lessons.

I recently visited the Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC) in College Park for a women's tennis…read moreclass hosted by a women's health organization and I was genuinely surprised by the facility. As someone who grew up in the area and went to school in College Park, I somehow had no idea this place even existed! Even though the facility is slated for renovations soon, it's still very nice in its current state. They have both indoor and outdoor courts, spacious locker rooms, and a really nice clubhouse area. The atmosphere felt active and welcoming, especially on a busy Saturday afternoon. The staff members assigned as our coaches for the day were also incredibly kind and patient as they helped us work on our form and learn the basics of tennis. As someone newer to the sport, I really appreciated how encouraging and approachable they were. I've recently picked up tennis as a hobby and have been exploring clubs in the area to potentially join, and JTCC is definitely high on my list now. My only small critique is that I wasn't able to speak with anyone at the front desk because it was so busy, and the website doesn't list membership pricing, so I'll have to call for more details. They currently have an offer where if you buy one group lesson package ($60) you get to bring a friend with you for free. My friend and I learned so much over the 3 weeks that we attended. They have various day and time options for you to choose from and there's an ample amount of parking. My friend I are now taking tennis 2 lessons once a week and we are obsessed.
