This was the best restaurant we visited in Vieques. The service was great and food was excellent!

Highly recommend this place if you are lookimg for some authentic home-cooked food in a rustic setting away from the tourist strip. The family was hanging out outside chatting when we turned up mid-afternoon but sprung to action to get our order out fast! (A nice change when most places in PR seem to be in no hurry at all!) It's a small menu that changes depending on what they're cooking that day but I think you're safe to assume there will be fresh fish, rice and plantains available. We ordered a whole baked fish and it was absolutely delicious and very fresh. We're glad we went here and got to taste some authentic local food and support a local family. The only downside was the mosquitos, put some bug spray on before you go! read more

OMG we waited 45 min for our food..only 2 other people were at the restaurant so this was not a busy time. Also it was 33 dollars for 3 arepas and one order of chicharrons. Too expensive for a random little restaurant (also this was to go). No prices are listed on the menu so it's good to ask ahead of time. The bread on the arepas was excellent. The shrimp on had the tails on so that was annoying. Conch was good! The chicharrons were pretty much only fat. Not done correctly. We ended up giving a ton of it to the wild dogs. Worth getting an arepa but remember everyone is on island time. read more

A gem off the beaten path behind the main road through Esperanza. We weren't looking for another expensive, fancy meal and happened upon this little local spot. Their menu consists of mostly Mofongo and they sold out of sweet plantains as we found out when tried to order a second helping and the owner said "that was the last one...enjoy them and eat them slowly". Haha. The ambiance is very local...music from a boom box and picnic tables under a well lit covered area that is painted brightly. The food isn't fast by any means but soaked with flavor and presented well. Maybe next time we'll try something a bit more daring like the octopus mofongo! read more

Wow what a great experience. Had heard good things about this place, so we went to check it out - the food and service exceeded our expectations. First off this place is very quaint, not fancy but cool, not divey but sincere, it doesn't try too hard like some of the other spots on the Malecone. The ambiance is humble but very comfortable. The Food was delicious, my wife and I had the shrimp mofungo and lobster mofungo. Very flavorful, generous portions, too! Finally the owner was one of the nicest people I met on the island. He and his staff were very friendly and welcoming. Really obvious they enjoy cooking for people and take great care in what they make. Im a big fan!! read more

This unseemingly little restuarant has some big flavours! Although the pork is the default dish around PR, the best dish (imho) is the octupus! The octupus is cooked to a tender texture with an amazing buttery flavour! They speak a little English here and the family that owns the place is extremelly friendly! read more

We stopped here before our bio bay tour and shared a bunch of dishes. We arrived at around 6:30 they were out of some of the side dishes. I have to say that the previous yelp reviews and the menu photos make it seem like there is more than what they currently offer so I posted a current menu. Average price per plate is about $12. No seafood was available (frozen and could cook if we wanted). With that said, the pork was amazing and the beans and rice were a nice side dish. The corned beef pasteles were nice to try and I am sure made perfectly, but nothing I would order again unless you could spread it on something. I totally appreciate the family run business and not wanting to make more than what would sell. Good to go to a place off the main Esperanza strip. We'll be back and next time arrive earlier to enjoy their full menu. read more

This may be one of the worst experiences I've had with customer service. My partner and I went here because I love supporting small family restaurants. The menu was small and without descriptions. I tried to order our food using Spanish, but the counter girl rudely interupted and asked me to not speak Spanish. In Puerto Rico! When we were able to order our food, she brought it over and the rice had lots of pork in it. We asked her to clarify, and she said that WE should have asked if the rice had pork. The attitude was horrendous. She offered to bring us a different kind of rice, but said she'd charge us for both. She also brought drinks that we didn't order, and I took them back to the counter and she said, "I brought them over and asked if you want them and you didn't say no." She rolled her eyes because I didn't want the drinks I didn't order. I was so confused! We were charged $20 for rice we didn't eat, and otherwise the food was less than mediocre. This is not really a food truck- it is a permanent restaurant located in a little neighborhood just a block from the main touristy strip. The food was good and the prices were reasonable. The portions were pretty large. Conch arepa has a wonderful flavor. I didn't know what to get, so the recommendation by the lady working the counter was the chicken of the day. Huge order of chicken with rice and beans. Great rice and beans, but I personally thought the chicken was dry and greasy at the same time. But with enough hot sauce, anything can taste good. There was a locally made hot sauce on the table. The fresh juice here was also very good and cheap! Incredible! Slow roasted pork with a variety of sides available, plus fresh juices. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. No one knows about this place because it isn't on the main strip. First I have to say...$25 for an entire lobster is amaze balls! Secondly, it's all farm to table. They cut everything on the spot to include sides. The staff is all family and they are super friendly. I am Puerto Rican blood and have had food here for years and this place is legit! So scrumptious as all the food is so well flavored. The ribs are TDF (to die for) and practically falling off the bone! Food is plentiful and the portions are super appropriate. Don't be fooled by the location. The place survives because the food is awesome. Word of mouth and Yelp help! Look at my reviews. I don't often boast but when I do...it is with cause. Hubby and I found this restaurant on yelp and upon arrival, we weren't sure if were in the right place bcos it's right smack in the middle of a residential area but apparently, that's how it goes in Vieques - kinda like certain parts of New Orleans. The place is also deceiving as there's only a window into the kitchen and I wasn't sure where we would eat but there are a few tables in the rear side with views of the neighbors backyards.. Chef Choli warmly greeted us and offered us what he was serving that day. Hubby chose the conch salad and I was interested in the red snapper but I was hoping it to be served with criollo sauce and Chef Choli graciously agreed to make it and warned me that it may take longer. Hey, we're on island time so why not? He even offered hubby some complimentary moonshine (I guess he figured I was a weak drinker and he was right). I give Rancho Chuli five stars because it is so much better than the other food options on the Esperanza strip. For $10 it was enough to feed 2 people and we did not finish everything. The food was also very good. It appears the menu changes daily. They have local dishes, seafood mofongo, roasted meat, rice and beans and other sides. Do yourself a favor and walk five minutes off the tourist area to check it out. The hours were not posted we went at noon and they did not have the roasted meats ready yet. I was surprised to see some negative reviews about this place because this has been the most authentic Puerto Rican food we have found on the island. We were searching for some really authentic food and it was tough to come by... since many Americans have moved here and took over the restaurant businesses and many tourists come here and eat American food (which also surprises me.) This place was super authentic and delicious... we ordered plain mofongo and arepas and even just plain it was sooo good. Passion fruit juice fit the meal really well too. It's also extremely reasonably priced compared to the tourist trap restaurants. Gigi helped us and was really kind, giving tips about the island and beach spots and historical facts. This is our second time here this trip and I don't think it will be the last! Definitely recommend! read more
