Boy, was I happy I pulled off the road to discover this little spot. It is a historic ranch house, petite little church and grounds that are a nice spot to explore. The docents are enthusiastic and kind and were happy to answer questions and excited to share history. It is peaceful, not crowded and low key. Exactly what I needed at the moment. I went to this place on a school trip and all I have to say is that some of the workers are EXTREMLY RUDE. They need to be educated on how to treat EVERY kid with respect no matter what. The lady that was in charge of showing the washing station had an attitude that was completely unnecessary. And the man that did the adobe blocks was BEYOND RUDE. Having people go there and visit for educational reasons should be a reason for them to treat the guests with respect. Some of the students that were on the trip had learning disabilities and when he got told about it, he had the audacity to say, "I can tell". That is just something you do not say. And he honestly just seemed so over it and he did things clearly in a rush and trying to get it over with. He also was extremely rude to me, and I had to try my best to keep it professional (something he did not do) as I WAS AROUND KIDS. I had never been so furious, I am not one to write reviews, but I was so shocked at the attitude that these people had. Honestly would never go back to this place. read more

This place is a hidden gem to host any event. Yes, it is a museum that allows for tours, but it serves as a great outdoor venue. Do not be discouraged by the hey being so close, the orchards and natural beauty mask any noise. We hosted our wedding of about 250, I think more showed up, and there was still plenty of space for the caterer, live band and bar... There are public restrooms towards the front of the entrance and the host gets a private one as well. For the price, you probably will not find an easier and more lenient place to work with. We hosted our event in August, and the place looked amazing with the work done by Tom's Lighting, that's another review.... Anyhow, come by and see this place...you will be surprised and wknt be dissatisfied. read more

Rancho Camulos is a 40-acre National Historic Landmark located within a 1,800-acre working ranch. It's named after the Tataviam Indian village known as Kamulus that was originally located on the site. It's located off highway 126 fwy between Santa Clarita and Fillmore. From 1853 to 1925 it was the home to three generations of the Del Valles family. In 1853 Ygnacio del Valle built the adobe home that still exists today. It's also known as the "Home of Ramona," the location of the 1884 best-selling novel, Ramona, written by Helen Hunt Jackson. The museum is only open for 3 hours on Sunday from 1-4pm. A docent takes you on a one hour tour of the property. You'll get to view the original adobe home, the chapel, the outside of the winery, and the school house. Suggested donations are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. read more

Beautiful wedding venue! We attended a wedding here last night and it was a lovely, casual but classy, space for a party. While the party (both the wedding and the reception) took place outside - I'm not completely sure if there was an option to rent space inside, as well. In between the ceremony and dinner (which was setup on the same lawn space), the crowd moved over to another area of the ranch to indulge in cocktails, a cheese plate table, and lawn games (a massive jenga game, badminton, croquet, and corn hole- which I'm guessing was provided by the venue- but again, no confirmation). I would encourage couples who are looking for reception space, or others who are looking to host an "al fresco" party, to consider this venue! We had a great time and the photos turned out beautifully (very pretty background). Pros: large space (can accommodate large parties), beautiful atmosphere. Cons: not necessarily close to a specific town or hotel for wedding guests (guessing a shuttle could be available to transport guests to Filmore or Santa Clarita). Bathrooms were like not what you call "luxurious" (simple and clean, however - like what you would find in a public park - but with better mirrors to effectively aid in "make up touch up" for the ladies!) read more

My wife and I have always wanted to stop at Rancho Camulos our way to or from Ventura. We were finally able to fit it into our schedule, and are happy we did. Careful planning is needed to visit, as it is only open for docent tours on Sundays, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. There is much to learn on the tour, and our docent was extremely knowledgeable about the area, the climate of the times for the last two centuries, and the history that made Rancho Camulos what it was, and is. The tour consists of a walking tour of a small portion of the beautiful grounds, the adobe home, a modest church, and the school house. Our tour lasted a little over an hour, followed by a 20 minute video. The suggested donation is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children, and it is well worth every penny if you are willing to take the time and listen to all the docent has to offer! read more

We visited this "museum" yesterday in hopes of learning some local history with our children. Although it's a peaceful, quiet & rural adobe with nice simple grounds, it really has no historical info. No pictures to speak of nor signage or even the dreaded pamphlet to read. At least a few rooms in the adobe were open & we could see some actual mud walls & a couple of old furniture pieces (1 room was decorated from the 50's????). There was 1 docent who was closing the place but let us peak in the schoolhouse on the grounds (looked more like a YMCA meeting room). Again not much info. I wouldn't recommend for a learning opportunity although it looks like it would be a nice setting for a wedding. read more

This is an outstanding place to visit; not easy to get to but well worth the drive among the last remnants of Californian agricultural life. The history of the place is fascinating, the docent guides are pleasant and very knowledgeable, and for the most part the area has been very well preserved. If you go during their Rancho Camulos Days it's a marvelous experience, live music, food, the works. It's charming (the rose garden is wonderful) and really takes you back to the early ranchero lifestyle. read more

This is a bit out of the way, but if you're heading east from the coast, or west to it, it's definitely worth the stop and a good spot to take the children to give them an idea of the true history of the region. The trees alone are historic, but they also have some lovely roses on site. You really get a sense of what life was like for early settlers running ranches in the area. You also realize how remote most of those settlements were back in the day. Lovely setting and the docents are knowledgeable and so friendly. They could use a larger sign on the highway though, as we drove past like three times before we saw it. read more

WEDDING REVIEW: Rancho Camulos Museum is a gorgeous location. All outdoors & many spots to get great pictures. It's a location all by itself, making it a great private event space & you may bring all your own vendors. Booking the venue was easy & the director, Susan, was very responsive when we came to tour the venue. Once we sent our deposit check however, she became unresponsive & was not much help when it came to asking for logistical information about the grounds. Our planner wound up making her own map from google's aerial view & memory...We went to visit the venue several times with the promise that Susan would be there to answer questions & walk the grounds with us. This was time we scheduled with her & she never showed up for any of our 4 walk-throughs. Quality: 2 stars. The day before our wedding, we arrived to receive our rentals from the rental company & the grounds were an absolute mess. To the point that nothing could be set up. The fountain was green, the reception lawn had huge dirt mounds everywhere, there was fruit covering all of the sidewalk areas, the spot where the ceremony aisle was supposed to be (centered in front of the gorgeous tree) was all mud & obviously not doable for a wedding dress to walk over, there were broken champagne glasses & trash on the grass, & to no surprise, Susan was not there as planned. This was a mess made from a previous wedding an entire week before, meaning she had not been on the grounds to check on it. Our wedding planner called her & she sent a gentleman to the venue to clean up. The only reason this is getting 2 stars rather than 1 is because he did a great job cleaning it up & making it look wedding ready to the best of his ability. But that should have been Susan's responsibility to be aware of. Her unpreparedness cost us hours of valuable "day before wedding" time & anyone who has planned their wedding knows how important that time can be. Flexibility: 3 stars. The venue lets you bring your own vendors meaning our catering & bar set up saved us a lot of money. The venue also allows you to access the grounds the day before your event (rental drop offs can be cheaper this way too) as well as lets you store event items in the school house until the morning after your event for pickup. We were able to use some of the items on the grounds as long as they were put back, which was nice when it came to cocktail hour & having some extra benches/chairs for seating. Responsiveness: 1 star. Susan was unresponsive after we sent the deposit check (which she never confirmed that she received & months later after still asking for a copy, I believe it had been lost) She emailed when it came time to send in the remaining balance & once that was sent she went back to being unresponsive. I also never received confirmation that they received the final check except for seeing it removed from my bank account. Overall Value: 2 stars. Because of the flexibility on vendor allowances, we were able to save a lot of money on the wedding overall. The value of the venue itself though, not sure it's worth the 2 stars. Especially since when we booked in 2016, their prices increased by 25% for 2017. Not sure the value still holds at this point for future guests since the price you're paying is really for the flexibility & for access of the grounds. If the flexibility is worth it to you, that's great, because the location is picturesque when maintained, just keep in mind you'll manage all other coordination on your end whether it's you or your planner. Overall Service: 1 star. The only thing the venue needed to have prepared was the grounds maintenance the day before & there was one room we needed unlocked for an important pre-ceremony moment we wanted photographed. The grounds got done at the last minute with no time to fix the mud except hope that the heat dried it & the room we needed was not accessible as promised. Susan literally had two jobs. Have the grounds ready & not muddy & have one room unlocked. Moments before we were supposed to go to that room for some pictures, she informed me she didn't have the keys & couldn't get a hold of the guy who had them with excuses of how the locks were changed without her knowledge. Come on. Thankfully, our photographer had scoped the property earlier and found us an alternative location, however it had to be outside where everyone could hear us (we were singing a song together before the ceremony) rather than inside for a more private moment. Despite the service provided by the venue's director, our wedding went beautifully as her lack of organizational skills was a "behind the scenes" problem and our planner did an excellent job making sure things went smoothly. The grounds are gorgeous and ideal when they are maintained, but my only advice to future couples/event planners is to weigh your options when it comes to how badly you want flexibility over an organized and responsive venue contact. read more
