So on Sunday morning at 6:10 am we left our house and got there at 7 am to pick some peaches. The sun had just risen and the orchard looked heavenly thru the peach trees. My husband and I picked a lot of peaches and some plums. I'll be making plum jam this week. But the peaches we enjoy eating as a snack, I also baked a peach galette. So delicious. The peaches are juicy and sweet. It was worth our time and money. We picked over 60 pounds. I have some to family and friends and the rest we are enjoying it daily. I even made a whipped ricotta and peach toast. Delicious. I'm hoping I will have time to go back again one more time this season. Customer service was great, a very nice and friendly family orchard .... Go support them if you are nearby. And you will love the peaches.

Just lots of trees and you can see the scrawny chickens and roosters near by. Peaches were very affordable too and they accepted zelle so yay since I had no cash. It's a good stop on way to Vegas or if you're in the area hiking (devils punch bowl). They were also very nice and threw in some tomatillos and a few plums. Definitely want to come back with the kids.

Fancy a fruit picking expedition? Looking for a fun adventure with delicious results? I've got two…read morewords for you: CHERRY PICKING! An easy 1-hour jaunt from Los Angeles, jlfarms' spacious cherry orchard features 50% Rainier cherry trees (yay!) as well as Lapin, Bing, and Brooks varieties. Cherry picking season at the farm opened on June 3 this year and typically runs several weeks. Cherries are $6/pound. It being our first time cherry picking, we weren't sure what to expect when we arrived late morning on the first weekend. What we discovered: cherry picking is EASY AND FUN FOR ALL! True to the farm's website, the trees are trimmed 7 to 9 feet, with fruit-laden branches within immediate reach for adults and kids alike. In fact, cherry picking is way easier than strawberry or apple picking! A friend's pint-sized little ones had a blast picking cherries, and the number and spacing of the trees made it easy to socially distance from other groups. Within an hour or two, we picked a whopping 20 pounds of cherries! In addition to feasting on sweet fresh cherries, we also made cherry pie and turnovers and froze some cherries for later use. IMPORTANT: BRING CASH. The farm is CASH ONLY, which is not listed on the website. Sunscreen is also good, as the area can get hot, windy, and dusty (although the trees provide a nice windbreak). PRO TIP: while all the trees had lots of cherries, heading to the rows on the side of the property can be especially fruitful (pun fully intended). The cherries were so thickly clustered that you can pick them by the handful! Other notes: check the farm's website https://cherriesupick.com and call 661-944-9903 for updates on u-pick dates and hours. Apricots were also ripe when we visited, and we were allowed to pick some.

We decided to come and check it out on Memorial Day. (Yes they were open according to their website). We were thinking it would be in a secluded area but it was right off the main road. Definitely a great experience. My little guy had a blast picking the cherries off the floor and enjoying the great weather. It was a fun experience and I will definitely be coming back again. Pro's: very friendly staff that directed you to the best area to currently pick from. This weekend they had both renier cherries and apricots ready for picking. Not too crowded eventhough we got there around noon on a holiday. Plenty of ripe trees to choose from. Great weather. The cherries were a good size. Price is very reasonable. Porta potty on site if needed. Con's: no parking lot. Street parking only. If it gets busy you'd have to park and walk into the farm. Cash only. Due to Covid precautions they do not have a washing station for you to wash and try out the fruit or even wash your hands from picking the fruit.

Wow. It had been a…read morecouple of years since I first became aware of Bloom Ranch. I'm not originally from California, but in the spaces I've moved through, I've always done my best to support Black-owned businesses whenever possible. Unbeknownst to me, I had no idea Bloom Ranch hosted a jazz brunch experience on the property. I was reminded about Bloom Ranch by someone whose opinion I trust deeply. She had traveled all the way from San Diego for the experience and left without words. She couldn't quite explain the levity, the love, the light, or what she had felt there. That was all I needed to know. I immediately booked a Sunday brunch and came with my partner and another couple. The experience begins long before you arrive. Driving from Pasadena into Acton, the landscape slowly transforms. The city gives way to rocky hills, rugged peaks, and wide-open skies. Then suddenly, you turn into Bloom Ranch and find yourself transported. Lush gardens, lavender, herbs, fruit trees, and rows of vibrant greenery welcome you onto the property. It feels as though you've stepped into another world entirely. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed not only by the Bloom Ranch staff, the people who steward and cultivate the land, but by what genuinely felt like family. From start to finish, we were cared for, supported, and guided through an experience that felt intentional in every way. The soulful jazz music would periodically pull you out of conversation because it was simply too beautiful not to fully absorb. The food was prepared in-house, sourced from the land, and served by people whose care and intention could be felt in every detail. What surprised me most was how spiritual the experience felt. There is something profoundly grounding about being surrounded by people who genuinely love the land, nurture it, and share its abundance with others. In a world that often feels rushed and disconnected, Bloom Ranch offers something increasingly rare, presence. It invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and remember your connection to nature, community, and yourself. I am filled with immense gratitude for having experienced something so special, created by people who look like me, people who feel like me, people who are intentionally cultivating peace, connection, stewardship of the land, and community. I was also filled with an incredible sense of pride. Bloom Ranch is the largest Black-owned ranch in Los Angeles County, and its existence feels both meaningful and necessary. Dr. Bill Releford is a beacon, a pillar of optimism, wisdom, and possibility. To witness someone carry the values and lessons of his upbringing through a successful medical career and into the creation and stewardship of Bloom Ranch is truly inspiring. And then there is Debra Releford, the Matriarch, whose warmth and presence seem to illuminate the heart and soul of the ranch itself. To say that I will return almost feels inadequate. It makes it sound like Bloom Ranch is simply a venue where one has an experience and then goes home. That is not what this felt like. What it felt like was being welcomed into a family. Into a community. Into a frequency of love, joy, nourishment, and belonging that has been needed for a very long time. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Dr. Bill Releford, Debra, and the entire team who made this experience possible. What you have created is deeply meaningful. Forever grateful.

My wife and I went out there today and got lucky with beautiful weather--one of those days where everything just feels right. We were told it's not a peak bloom year because of the weather, and sure, maybe it's not at its absolute best. But honestly? What we saw was still really nice. The lilac bushes that are blooming are beautiful, and more than enough to enjoy. The best part hits you right away. The moment you step out of your car, the fragrance starts--and as you walk through the grove, it just surrounds you. That classic lilac smell, strong but not overpowering, the kind that takes you back a bit. They have potted lilacs and fresh-cut bouquets available for purchase, so you can take a little piece of the farm home with you. And I've got to say--the people there really stood out. Everyone helping with sales and answering questions was genuinely friendly, super nice, and very informative about the farm and the plants. You can tell they care about what they're doing, and that makes the whole experience better. It's not a big, flashy place--and that's exactly why it works. It feels real, local, and relaxed. If you're thinking about going, do yourself a favor and call ahead to check hours and what's available: (661) 269-0910. Timing matters with something like this. Bottom line--maybe not a "perfect" bloom year, but still a very worthwhile stop. Sometimes you don't need perfect... just good, honest, and enjoyable.

FIVE STARS ISN'T ENOUGH FOR THE WOW FLOWER PROJECT!…read more From the very first Black Maternal Health Expo in 2020 to their brand new office at 38417 20th St E #A, Palmdale, CA 93550, the WOW Flower Project has truly been a source of healing, empowerment, and joy in our lives. I'll never forget being a glowing mama in their first-ever beauty pageant for pregnant moms--what a moment! But the magic didn't stop there. Fast forward to today, my daughter and her Amicettes youth auxiliary had a blast participating in the Self Love Series, where they made sugar scrub with the sweetest soul, Sarah! Meanwhile, I had the pleasure of relaxing and stretching out on the peaceful patio. It was exactly what I needed. From garden therapy and animal therapy to art therapy and powerful moments of meditation, WOW has created a space that truly feels like home. Every detail--from the lush greenery and meaningful art to the intentional programming--radiates care and community. Their yoga sessions are phenomenal, and the vibe is always uplifting, peaceful, and full of purpose. The WOW Flower Project is more than an organization--it's a movement. A sanctuary. A source of light and love dedicated to Black maternal health and mental wellness. Their mission to uplift, support, and educate Black mothers is felt in every corner of their work. Thank you, Ms. Waunette and the entire WOW team, for pouring so much love into our community. We see it, we feel it, and we appreciate you endlessly. Keep blooming!
