They…read moretold me he did not have torticollis, but said his right neck muscle was "tenser," that his frontal skull bones on the left were overlapping and creating a ridge that needed adjustment, that his right eye sometimes bulges due to skull bone movement, and that his left pelvic area was tighter than the right. The "treatment" consisted of about 1-2 minutes of very light finger pressure/massage on his neck. No actual functional assessment or clear medical explanation was provided, yet they suggested ongoing chiropractic care. After doing my own research and speaking with medical professionals, I learned that mild asymmetry, skull ridging, and muscle tone differences are normal in infants and typically resolve with normal development, positioning, and tummy time. Infant skull bones are meant to be flexible, and claims that they need manual "adjustment" are not supported by pediatric medical evidence. I felt unnecessarily alarmed by explanations that made normal infant development sound like serious problems, especially for such a young baby. I do not feel the visit provided value, and I would urge other parents to seek guidance from their pediatrician or a pediatric physical therapist before pursuing chiropractic care for an infant.

During the initial assessment, Dr. B. took quite some time with me to find out as much as possible about different aspects of my everyday habits and routines, work environment and home activities to have the whole picture of what might possibly contribute to my neck situation. His very thorough approach impressed me, but what really stuck with me was that Dr. B. offered to treat me free of charge after learning I was an exchange student intern in Napa. Along with adjustments, I received very good advice on what needed to be changed and what I could do while at work and at home to keep my neck (and spine in general) in great condition. Fast-forward four years and Dr. Bishofberger was treating me after a high diving accident. Thank God it was not as bad as it could have been (but it was bad enough I wished I hadn't done it in the first place). Regular adjustments along with lower back stretching techniques recommended by Dr. B. worked wonders for me. I was actually surprised to regain full range of motion and rid myself of pain given my injury. I came back to Dr. Bishofberger this fall to take care of my neck and upper back as I let my good posture habits erode. I feel like a new man every time I walk out of his office.
