I began seeing Dr. Jared at Lazarus Wellness here in Napa a few months ago. My GP doctor recommended Lazarus Wellness based on information she received from several of her patients who had received treatment there. I was previously seeing another chiropractor in Napa for a long-term shoulder issue. The previous chiropractor never diagnosed me and instead, recommended I come in 3x per week for adjustments. This just did not still right with me. Frustrated with no answers, I turned to Dr. Murphy. He spent almost 45 minutes with me during my initial consultation, explained anatomy and diagnosed my issue. Instead of recommending 3x a week adjustments without a diagnosis as my previous chiropractor had, he suggested regular strengthening exercises and posture improvements to help improve and prevent future issues. He also adjusted my shoulder utilizing a method not previously used and recommended adjustments every 4 weeks. I am very impressed with Lazarus. The receptionists and chiropractors truly care about their patients and I am now a devoted client. Additionally, I suffered an acute injury. I am so glad I found out about Dr. Murphy, here on Yelp! For over a year now my right hand has largely been too painful to use much at all. But after only a few visits with Dr. Murphy, I feel I am on the road to recovery. Brief history: A year ago a pain burned in the middle of my right palm and extended all the way up my arm to where my clavicle connects to my sternum. This joint became visibly enflamed, irritated, and enlarged. My hand hurt so it was difficult to grasp and use a kitchen knife, and painful to sign my name with a pen. After much rest and rehab, and receiving help from several other health practitioners over the past year, this bad situation was improving at such a slow rate progress had slowed to a stop. I mainly avoided using my right, and it hurt anyway! I knew the muscles and tendons in my right arm and shoulder were far too tight, but I could barely get them to budge and relax. Then I found out Dr. Murphy employs several effective deep tissue relaxing practices, in addition to traditional chiropractic services. I have been to 3 Chiropractors in the valley since I realized the importance of adjustments. They were all good experiences but it seemed like I was just getting an adjustment every other week and not seeing significant results. Since my wife and I have been going (about 3 months) to Dr. Lazarus our quality of life has increased immensely! Dr. Lazarus not only adjusts the spine and extremities, he is a certified practitioner of Graston Technique. The Graston Technique has healed an injury that my wife sustained in a car accident almost 10 years ago. We have been to every professional imaginable and not a single person could help. By the 2nd Graston appointment my wife and I had seen a significant increase in range of motion and virtually no pain. My wife could not work a full day of work without extreme pain, now she can work and Crossfit train with little to no discomfort. I believe Dr. Lazarus's best professional quality (atleast what helped me the most) is his knowledge of nutrition. I struggled with a stomach ache my whole life. I would eat a meal and my stomach would turn upside down. I went to other allergy "professionals" and they didn't know a da#m thing! They made me believe I was the problem. World-Class Service. Dr. Matthew Murphy is an exceptional chiropractor that approaches his craft with great care, charisma, intelligence, and patience. He actively listens and is well-equipped, both mentally and physically, to provide lasting relief through targeted therapy and precise manipulations. I also want to highlight that he is a DC (Doctor of Chiropractic), which requires nearly double the amount of anatomy/physiology/embryology hours (roughly 700 hrs) compared to a traditional MD (roughly 390 hrs) program. As for my personal experience, I have suffered with a severely pinched nerve in the C5-C6-C7 region for about 2 years. In just two sessions, Dr. Murphy was able to provide more relief than I have felt in 2 years. He was extremely cautious and methodical in his approach and I am the better for it. Today was a rough day for me, I drove all over Napa to be told 6 times "No, we can't adjust you today" as I was just about to give up I scrolled yelp 1 more time and called Lazarus Chiro, the women in front asked me what's wrong and I told them I had a rugby game last Saturday and I was in so much pain it was hard to walk,bend,move she said come into the office in 20 minutes and they'd squeeze me in. I was already outside in the parking lot. Dr. Ryan knew quickly what was wrong with me when I explained my symptoms he said it was a SI INJURY(got lost) and he popped my Pelvis back into place, my back muscles are really sore right now but that sharp stabbing pain I was having when i stood up or walked is completely gone. I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review for these wonderful people who have been taking such great care of me for the past two years! I've been going to a chiropractor for most of my life so I feel like I have somewhat high standards for the treatment I want to receive (physically and bedside manner-y). I'm so glad I found Dr. Murphy & team a few years ago! I first started going for normal maintenance adjustments, but after a few months I was in a car accident that required much more frequent appointments. The adjustments are great and I've never had any immediate flare-ups post-appointment (unlike with other chiros I've been to). I was in yet ANOTHER car accident a year later (neither were my fault, I swear) and Dr. Murphy got me right back on track again. The front desk team is super friendly and supportive. My insurance/billing situation has gotten complicated a few times yet they're always 100% on top of it and make sure it's never stressful for me. I first went to Dr. Lazarus because of a weird ankle pain that I couldn't figure out. I was looking for a doctor that wouldn't just give me a cortisone injection and send me on my way. Dr. Lazarus and the muscle therapist, JC, were able to show me the bigger picture of what was going on with my muscles and tendons. They not only treated the issue in the office but also provided at home exercises and stretches that helped ease the discomfort and treat the underlying cause of the pain. As a photographer and active person I end up with a lot of aches and pains. I have been seeing Dr. Lazarus for 9 months now and he has helped improved my health tremendously. I am weary of chiropractors and have had bad experiences in the past, but Dr. Lazarus is completely different. He actually cares about the health of his patients and isn't trying to milk money out of us. I came to him in January with a very hurt hip flexor that no one seemed to be able to help me with. Within 3 sessions he had fixed it and I was able to work out (pain free). I was hooked! I have been going to him ever since and if something comes up he gets me in right away. Otherwise, he only has me come in once a month. He has also coached me on weight loss and eating healthy and I have lost 25 pounds. I can't say enough good things about him. Also, love this staff. This review is LONG overdue! I have been going to Dr. Murphy at Lazarus for a couple of years now. Having been in a bad car accident many years ago, I have chronic back pain that makes it hard to even stand sometimes. I have been to several chiropractors over the years and I can say without question that he is THE BEST by leaps and bounds. Not only is he always super nice and positive with a huge smile (my 4 year old daughter has her first crush!), what sets him apart is that he takes the time to loosen up my muscles before doing an adjustment. Even my last favorite chiropractor never did that. It makes such a big difference. In the past, I have had to get adjustments weekly and even several times a week when I am in pain. Not with him. I will get an adjustment and sometimes I will have a follow up the next week, but often times I won't need to go back for months. I'm a full believe in the holistic approach to their healing method here. Dr. Lazarus is a wealth of knowledge and passionate about his craft. I have also seen Dr. Adam who does absolutely fantastic work as well. I have had an ongoing back spasm for nearly 8 months, been to other chiropractors, physical therapy and been prescribed pills. I have received years of Chiropractic therapy from as many as 12 different Chiropractors over the last 30 years. I have suffered from Sciatica and degenerative disc disorder for many, many years. I can honestly say that since I have started seeing Dr. Lazaraus , which has only been about 2 months, I have had NO relapses of pain! I have been in pain for years, sometimes at a constant level of 2 or 3 but NEVER have I gone this long with out ANY hip or back pain! I am truly amazed, because I really didn't believe that I would ever be pain free. So I've had minor/moderate sciatica pain for over 3 years now. About 2 months ago It flared up to the point i couldn't walk and had what felt like a mouse on fire riding a bottle rocket up and down my leg and shooting a colorful explosion out of my foot! Can't picture it?? How about laying your leg on a bed of soldering irons and having Andre the Giant body slam it from the 3rd rope. Ya...That bad! I went to my "normal" doctor at Kaiser and was promptly offered narcodics, a hand shake,and a future visit. Not being a fan of modern pain relief and not being able to quicky think of anyone to sell/trade them too, I limped along my way. I figured with a little bit of R&R I'd be feeling better soon. Well... not so much! After about 3-4 weeks of this I decided for search for a chiropractor and found Dr Lazarus on Yelp!! Due to the high ratings and positive reviews I made an appointment. After describing my symptoms to Dr. Lazarus he told me it's either 1 of 2 things. 1 that he could fix, or 2 I would need surgery on. Umm Com'on #1!! 12 hours after my quick, painless alignment. I was already in less pain. By the 3rd visit in 2 weeks I was 95% pain free!!! I felt good enough to start a diet/work out plan. 4th visit I mentioned to Dr. my new found health kick and.... Oh did you know he's a nutritionist too!! So he sat down with me and explained a diet to follow and the top 5 best things from each food group to eat and updated me on a few diet myths. A few days later, I'm craving rasberries insted of cookies and walnuts insted of crackers. Weird! Looking forward to my appt next month as a mile stone goal to my new health. My next door neighbor recommended Lazarus Chiropractic after watching me deal with back issues for months. Her husband, a very conservative guy, felt that he had a very good experience at Lazarus. I called and found out that Kaiser has a chiropractic benefit and that Dr. Matt Murphy, in Lazarus Chiropractic, was a provider! The kind office staff was able to get me in that same week! Dr. Murphy was able to diagnose the specific area in my back that had been bothering me for months. He took a careful health history and was able to modify treatment with extra care due to some osteoporosis. He treated my back with gentle, but effective compression . My symptoms noticeably improved after that first treatment. Dr. Murphy gave me a few exercises and actually demonstrated how to go those correctly. I stumbled across Dr Lazarus after finding him as a preferred provider for Blue Cross, so I visited the website and liked what I saw so I decided to make an appointment. They got me in right away, and during the first consulation I thought that he was genuinely concerned about my health and well being. He takes a way more total body approach to include muscle stretching and spinal adjustment to see more permanent results quicker. He is also a really nice person, you feel welcomed by both him and the office staff. He has a way of making you feel like a friend after only the first visit. I am having a hard time writing and rating this review as Dr. Lazarus is a wonderful chiropractor that was very knowledgeable and helpful. That being said, I needed to leave his practice due to the length of time people sit in the waiting room and the office hours he offers. If you a working person, there are no hours during the working day that are available ( no early appointments, except Friday morning, no lunch hour appointments and no after work appointments). Then when I did make an appointment and had to use some of my sick time to be there, I would wait and wait - every single time. I believe he double books from the first minute he opens in the morning until the end of the day. Other patients in the waiting room were saying the same thing about their experience regarding waiting time. Like I said, I feel badly leaving but I cannot continue to be prompt for my appointment and then have to leave before being adjusted because of the length of time. I had a sciatic problem, but not the typical pinched nerve in the lower back, this was caused by a tightening of a muscle called periforma, which is under the glute muscle. My doctor at Kaiser diagnosed it as a pinched nerve and gave me exercises that would be for someone who doesn't exercise, which I do and said to check back!! Acupunturist gave me the same diagnosis. Dr. Lazarus talked to me about my symptoms (horrible pain up and down my left leg and foot) had me stand looked at my back and said he thought it was my Periforma, adjusted me, gave me exercises to do to release the muscle. After 3 visits I was 90% pain free. Yes he is also a nutritionist and helped me with a cold I had interms of vitamin c and Zinc. Great find, great team. read more

There are a lot of good chiropractors out there, but few that are "great". I came to Dr. Lazarus after reading other Yelp reviews, experiencing chronic headache and neck pain/tension, looking for some relief. From the first appointment, he figured out exactly how to target what turned out to be primarily muscle related issues (myofascial adhesions) and made me feel dramatically better. In the twenty years that I've been looking for relief from ongoing back and neck pain, this is the first time I've encountered someone that combines other disciplines with chiropractics - such as physical therapy, nutrition and exercise - into making me feel better in such a short period of time. For my specific problem, he used trigger point therapy, Graston technique, an exercise and posture correction regime, oh and yeah chiropractic adjustments. I recommend him highly.
