Shout out to Mr Gregory for tailoring sessions to each persons unique abilities while still ensuring to push us out of our comfort zones, and for holding each student accountable to be their very best.

There are accomplished martial artists... and then there are people like Graciela. Her level of skill, experience, and depth of knowledge is extraordinary, but what really sets her apart is who she is as a person. She is one of the most dedicated, generous, and genuinely giving instructors I've ever met. She doesn't just teach technique--she gives of herself. Every class, every interaction, you can feel how much she cares about her students and their growth. Spending time at CMA Martial Arts, you quickly realize this isn't just another school. There's a culture there. A feeling. It's disciplined, yes--but also deeply human. Respectful, supportive, and real. What impressed me most is her ability to connect across all levels. I've seen her work with adults--serious practitioners--and deliver high-level, no-nonsense training that commands respect. And in the same breath, she can turn around and work with children in a way that's engaging, uplifting, and full of heart. That balance is rare. She's not just teaching martial arts--she's shaping people. And as someone who has been in the martial arts world for a long time, I don't say this lightly: Graciela Casillas is one of the most accomplished and inspirational martial artists I've had the honor to train with. If you're looking for a place to train where the instruction is world-class, the culture is authentic, and the leadership truly cares--CMA Martial Arts is something special. I'm grateful for every opportunity I've had to learn from her, and I look forward to many more. -- Gregory Poretz

Updating my review…read more My youngest son who is on the Spectrum has also joined the Fight Foundation team. We couldn't be more thankful for Sifu Cherry and her team, they work very well with my son. We started with 1:1 classes before integrating him into group classes. My son would elope at home, at the the store basically anywhere, with the help of Fight Foundation my son hardly has that issue now. MMA has taught him discipline and to follow directions. They instructors are great at reinforcing positive behaviors and nipping the bad ones. My son is learning to interact with his peers better and he is equipped to defend himself. We've been with Fight Foundation for many year and highly recommend them. It's also by far the cleanest gym around. We love Sifu Cherry And Sifu Paul, their whole team has always been awesome with us. My son has been with the fight foundation for a few years now. I signed him up because I was tired of my son coming home upset from being physically bullied with little consequences from the school. They've really helped my son with his confidence and bullying is no longer an issue. He's never had to use his MMA skills outside the studio but it's reassuring knowing my son has the tools he needs to defend himself if he's ever in a ugly situation or outnumbered. We can't always be there to protect our kids but you can give them the upper hand. MMA teaches more than just self defense its given my son goals to strive for and discipline outside my household. Thanks again Fight Foundation we love being on your team!

I was a member at Gracie Barra Oxnard for about a year. First, I want to say that this review is…read morenot directed at the instructors. They were always kind and did their best. My disappointment is with the organization and how the business is run. One of my biggest concerns was the class size. There were often 20-30 kids in a class, which made it difficult for each child to get enough individual attention. For the amount families are paying, there were many days my child left without really learning or practicing the techniques. If your goal is for your child to build strong fundamentals, I would recommend looking for a gym with smaller class sizes and more one-on-one instruction for a similar or even lower price. Another issue was communication. There was a week when the gym was closed because of a retreat to Hawaii, yet members continued to be charged biweekly without any credit or adjustment. That was frustrating. The cancellation process was the most disappointing part of my experience. When I needed to cancel due to a work schedule conflict, I was told I had to provide a two-month notice. That requirement was never clearly explained when I signed up. I later found out my brother, who attended the same location, was allowed to cancel after paying a $100 fee. Meanwhile, after being a loyal member for a year, I was expected to continue paying nearly $700 for two additional months even though I could no longer attend. I asked to see the section of my agreement that required the two-month notice and also asked why exceptions were made for some members but not others. I never received a response. I even reached out to higher management, but nothing was resolved. I also noticed that the same group of children seemed to be consistently selected for special opportunities and challenges outside of regular class. It feel like not every student was given the same opportunities. Overall, I'm very disappointed with the lack of communication, the cancellation process, and the inconsistent customer service. The gym promotes itself as a family, but when a loyal member experiences a genuine hardship, that support didn't seem to exist. My advice is simple: before signing up, ask detailed questions about cancellation policies, fees, and class sizes so you know exactly what you're committing to.

I had high expectations for UFC Gym, but unfortunately the cleanliness and overall management have…read morebeen very disappointing. The gym is consistently dirty, from the workout floor to the restrooms, sauna, and even the outdoor training area. These spaces should be cleaned and sanitized regularly, especially in a fitness facility where hygiene is so important. What makes the situation even more frustrating is that the cleaning staff are often on their phones instead of maintaining the facility. On multiple occasions, the manager has been locked in the office using a personal phone rather than being visible on the gym floor or addressing the condition of the club. Members pay a premium to work out in a clean, well-maintained environment. UFC Gym has great equipment and potential, but the lack of cleanliness, visible management, and attention to detail has significantly impacted my experience. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and improves the facility for its members.

The combination of the martial art, music, dance and deep cultural roots gives this art form so many layers that it keeps on luring me deeper and deeper. Capoeira Batuque in Oxnard is led by Michael. Though not quite a mestre yet, he is more than apt to teach us. The group is still in its infancy in Oxnard but I love coming to class. You will learn your basic moves: kicks, dodges, cartwheels, some musical skills and maybe even some portuguese! Every class concludes with a roda. Basically we make a circle, play instruments and sing while the capoeiristas play a game in the middle. Sometimes we will head to santa barbara and make a cameo appearance at the larger school. One thing about capoeira is the sense of community and the good connection that you have with schools that are as far as Tokyo. The class won't be the hardest cardio workout in your life, but it is a good workout. You learn how to control your body better and use muscles that are hardly exercised. Classes are Mondays and Wed 6-8 usually. First class is usually free, suggest you try it out.
