We couldn't be more thankful for Sifu Cherry and her team, they work very well with my son. We started with 1:1 classes before integrating him into group classes. My son would elope at home, at the the store basically anywhere, with the help of Fight Foundation my son hardly has that issue now. MMA has taught him discipline and to follow directions. They instructors are great at reinforcing positive behaviors and nipping the bad ones. My son is learning to interact with his peers better and he is equipped to defend himself. We've been with Fight Foundation for many year and highly recommend them. It's also by far the cleanest gym around. When I asked to cancel, they still kept billing. Every time I talked to management I was told it would be handled, notes would be added, and corporate would follow up. None of that ever happened. Operations manager Tony Avila told me multiple times he would take care of it, but that did not happen. Honestly not sure what "operations manager" means here because nothing was managed and none of the problems were fixed. To make it worse, I later found out the sales staff who signed me up are no longer there because of shady practices, which lines up exactly with what happened to me. Most of the regular staff are nice, but management did nothing to fix the problem. Be very careful what you sign here and watch your bank statements. 1 star added bc i like most of the staff are dope.

I dropped in with some friends for a Sunday gi class with Coach Jose Ramirez who taught some awesome spider guard details. The curriculum and teaching approach was fantastic. All the students and teachers there were so welcoming and accommodating and helpful. The facilities are top notch. The mats are super clean. They have showers, and I think even a sauna. Culture is often the most important part of any combat sport academy and West Coast MMA has it in spades. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there and would 100% recommend this academy to anyone, whether they are experienced competitors, brand new to Jiu Jitsu or combat training, or anything in between. The combination of the martial art, music, dance and deep cultural roots gives this art form so many layers that it keeps on luring me deeper and deeper. Back when I lived in Santa Barbara, I was part of the Batuque school. The group is large and active in that city and luckily it has expanded enough to make it to Oxnard. Capoeira Batuque in Oxnard is led by Michael. Though not quite a mestre yet, he is more than apt to teach us. The group is still in its infancy in Oxnard but I love coming to class. You will learn your basic moves: kicks, dodges, cartwheels, some musical skills and maybe even some portuguese! Every class concludes with a roda. Basically we make a circle, play instruments and sing while the capoeiristas play a game in the middle. Sometimes we will head to santa barbara and make a cameo appearance at the larger school. One thing about capoeira is the sense of community and the good connection that you have with schools that are as far as Tokyo. The class won't be the hardest cardio workout in your life, but it is a good workout. You learn how to control your body better and use muscles that are hardly exercised. Classes are Mondays and Wed 6-8 usually. First class is usually free, suggest you try it out.
