The instructor, who was a woman, Miss Daisy, was a black belt and the daughter of Master Nunez, who opened this establishment. She did a fantastic job! She was very nice, instructed the children very well, was engaging and she was also very understanding. She had the perfect balance of everything it takes to keep this kids in check. My nephew learned a lot and very quickly. She did not overwhelm the newbies, like my nephew and he looks forward to his next class. The studio is right in Downtown Oxnard on A street. It's about $80 a month, for 3 classes a week, 12 classes a month, which breaks down to less than $7/class. It is well worth the money. There is parking in the front and the back of the studio. Parents and family are welcome to stay and watch. There are chairs in the front where the kids could be watched, but it does get hot in the studio as the windows are facing the sun as the sun begins to set so there is full sun at 5 pm. Bring water! They also sell water and snacks in the studios for those that need it. I will update my review as time goes on. I look forward to seeing how my nephew progresses in these classes!

This studio has changed the lives of my entire family. When my son started, he was a week shy of 7…read moreyears old, and his father was on deployment in Africa. A family friend was starting her daughter and we tagged along to see what it was about. Before the end of the class we were already signing up! We were offered a 2 week trial to see if it was for us, but we didn't even bother, my son was so excited he couldn't wait to put on his uniform and left the studio wearing it asking me to take a million pictures! That was 3 years ago! My son is now a black belt, as am I and my husband! My youngest son is in the Tiny Tiger program. I can't say enough good things about this place. The program truly changes lives. My now 10 year old was having focussing issues (he's recently been diagnosed with ADD, and mild tourettes syndrome) and we wanted a sport he would be enthusiastic about. At 7 we couldn't imagine he would change this much for the better. He is part of the Leadership program and has found confidence in himself to help out others not only in the studio but in school. He's told me so many times how he sees a kid at school being left out and he walks over to include them because that's what leaders do. In the studio, he found something he excelled at, putting dedication into tournaments and earning a State title for California. But more than anything, he's learning to live in society and become a POSITIVE influence in this world. My 4 year old has a mind and attitude of his own, and the instructors work so well with him. They are patient but firm, which he needs. I appreciate that his class is small and he gets a ton of individual attention! They work with him not only on super cool ninja moves, but teach him about safety (knowing parents names and phone numbers), self control of his cool moves, and RESPECT! He says yes ma'am and yes sir at home! How awesome is that! On top of that, it's not just for kids! I've found confidence in myself I didn't know I had, and as an adult to put dedication and commitment in something isn't easy. But I've found a passion and calling for something I didn't even know I wanted, but I know now we can't live without. This has brought my whole family closer together and we are in it for the long haul!

Once you sign up, don't expect much understanding or flexibility if your circumstances change. In my experience, even after leaving the state/country and no longer being anywhere near the gym, they were still determined to hold me to the membership contract and continue collecting payments. The way this was handled completely changed my opinion of this business. Jiu-Jitsu is supposed to teach discipline, integrity, respect, accountability, and doing the right thing. Unfortunately, those values did not match what I experienced as a customer. It felt like the membership contract and collecting money mattered more than treating a customer fairly. There is a big difference between running a legitimate business and hiding behind a contract to squeeze money out of someone who can no longer even use your facility. If this is how you treat your customers, don't be surprised when people leave negative reviews and warn others. I would not recommend this gym. If you're thinking about joining, be extremely careful about what you're signing and how difficult it may be to get out of the membership. Based on my experience, there are plenty of other places I would rather spend my money.
