I went to Dr. Jiminez because i) he is covered by my insurance and ii) I found 1 review on Yelp that was good. More than I can say for any other doctors I looked into. In short, very nice staff (which is rare in this city). No frills place. Great doc. Always fits me in - because be honest, when you're sick, you don't want to wait unti the next day. I am extremely surprised and disappointed. While I respect anyone for sticking to their personal principals, they should not interfere with ones ability to do his or her job. If they do, it probably means that's not the right job. As a woman, I won't be able to go to Dr. Jimenez any longer, largely because I don't feel I'd be able to have an open, holistic conversation with him about my health care.

She heard an irregularity in my heartbeat and recommended a cardio consultancy. The cardio technician asked why I had been referred and when I told him my doctor heard something he and the cardiologist kind of snickered and said, "His doctor heard something." Then they did the complete workup and confirmed a problem with a valve that I have to have reviewed every year. I told Dr. Lienhard this and she explained that she's very careful with her hearing because it's a very important means of diagnosis. For example, she wears earplugs in the subway. She reminds me of screenings I need to keep on top of. And when I've had to see her for a complaint and she isn't sure of the diagnosis, she's honest about it. She tells me that the signs are not clear enough for a differential diagnosis, but suggests a likely cause and asks if I want to try a therapy. Typically, she'll say something like, "Let's see if we can get to the bottom of this empirically." She's been a terrific doctor to me, my wife, and my mother (when she was alive).

If I didn't have a friend with whom I spoke with directly after this happened, I wouldn't believe it happened myself. First red flag was when I began to exhibit hypothyroid symptoms. She missed it entirely. She didn't even know I was exhibiting hypothyroid symptoms. So I suffered through the beginnings of an under-active thyroid. A couple of months after the thyroid problems began, I had knee surgery. In the recovery room the doctors at the hospital diagnosed me with high blood pressure and strongly suggested I see my primary physician as soon as I could. When I got home I contacted Dr. Lienhard, as she was my primary doctor. She prescribed, at two different times, two different meds. I had bad side effects with both. When I called to inform her of the bad side effects of the second medication, she responded with, 'okay, so stop taking those pills.' And that was it. I hung up and called my friend whose friend recommended Dr. Lienhard. She said that was no answer and to call back and ask specifically what I should do. I did. I asked what else can be done other than to stop taking the pills? She said and I quote, 'What can I do for you? You need to lose weight [I wasn't overweight], exercise [I was and had been working with a personal trainer for a couple years already] and learn to meditate. I don't have any more time to waste on you. I'm hanging up now.' I called my friend back totally stunned and absolutely confused and hurt. I repeated the entire conversation, such as it was and said "she hung up on me." My friend said "WHAT?" She kept her head and was the one who told me to let this go for now as my blood pressure was diagnosed as dangerously high and I needed a doctor right away. I called my gynecologist with whom I've seen for almost 25-years now (and have highly recommended her to at least 5 other women who have all been super-satisfied with her) and she gave me my current primary doctor and the cardiologist (whom I've also recommended to others). I am alive today no thanks to Dr. Gisela Lienhard. She was recommended by a friend of a friend who could not believe what had happened. This person defended the 'good doctor' and vowed to find out the truth when she saw her next. Said friend of a friend never mentioned the doctor's name again to our mutual friend nor brought up the subject. I'm glad others had a better experience than me but I would never recommend her to anyone.

I was also offered facial recognition and hand scan. I declined. I provided them with a photo ID for my file. In my opinion that's enough! I'm not one to go to the doctor for every little thing. It is obvious to me that Doctor Tulpan keeps up with the latest patient treatment in her field. I do know that she realizes I take my life and wellness serious. After all, you are putting your life in someone else's care when you go to the doctor. She understands we all have family and friends. They ask about our health and how our visit to the doctor went. It took me a few years to finally feel confident that she understands my health issues. At this point I would be devastated if she left Manhattan! I realize how many things are beyond the doctors control. Insurance rules, State, and Federal Legislation, and more, all complicate treatment plans and the progress of treatment services. She is open with me about her processes while providing my medical treatment. I appreciate that greatly. I've never received Lab results as quickly as I have since she has been using the latest equipment. She is the only doctor I have had in years that calls me herself to report my test results. I'm so happy when she leaves the info on my messages. It is hard to reconnect some times after the visit. Doctor Tulpan and her current location would receive 10 Stars from me if I could give them!

If I had been told what she was contemplating - a neck MRI - I would have had the ensuing argument right there in her office. When her employee called to advise that the insurance company had approved the MRI, I thought it was a mistake as I'd had one a month previously. I told the employee that I'd had a neck MRI already (ordered by a different doctor). I wasn't eager to have another one; it was stressful. She put Dr. Tulpan on and she gaslighted me. She told me I was "confused", that I hadn't had a neck MRI. You don't get confused about MRIs. They're pretty distinctive. Nothing else is an MRI. I was shocked that she didn't believe me. Turned out that the imaging center had only sent the radiology report to the neurologist who ordered the first MRI and Dr. Tulpan didn't have the report so she assumed I was "confused." I wouldn't see her again if she were the last doctor on the planet.
