This had to be two of the worst bowls of ramen we've ever had. We've been to some good ramen places before (Ramen-San in Chicago, Ippudo in New York, and Taishoken in San Mateo). Not that I expected that level of quality, but this was just not up to par. Noodles were overcooked and pasty. My tonkatsu was thin and had no flavor. I had big expectations walking in the door. I was extremely disappointed. I do have to say that the staff was attentive and friendly. The gyoza appetizer was ok at best. The ramen was terrible. Phenomenal. Just so delicious and well done. The noodles were perfectly chewy and the broth was not overly salted. I had the spicy Tawainese pork ramen and my husband had the garlic bomb ramen. Each were uniquely their own but equally full of depth and balance. I cannot wait to return! First let me say we are very picky eaters. Every restaurant we go to we critique simply because we love to cook at home and are foodies! My husband and 17 year old son ordered the Pork Gyoza...Excellent, Twice cooked Eggs..surprisingly different and my men LOVED them. I ordered the Double the Flavor, broth had so much flavor! My son ordered Tonkotsu..he raved during the entire meal and all the way home about it! My husband ordered the Spicy Taiwan Ramen and carried on about the flavor and the soft boiled egg! This was such a surprise and treat! Debbie the owner was amazing and friendly. This is a great little place for a tasty ramen. A simple, uncomplicated menu full of good items made well. It's only been open a short while but I keep finding myself coming back. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, and the staff have always been wonderful; maybe a little disorganized but their charm always makes up for it. We sat outside due to covid and still had great service. I love the food here. It's fresh and you feel good after eating it. No MSG. The broth - get the spicy. This is the small hole in the wall place everyone wants to find. I read some of the other reviews and it's all about expectation. If you are looking for an expensive 5 star restaurant, this is not the place. If you are looking for a place where it's more like eating at a friends house, then this IS the place. What it lacks in "Fancy Appeal" it makes up 100 fold in the quality of the food and unique taste they offer. You also get a good amount of food for the price. Our family loves to eat here! read more

I became a fan of ramen when I visited Japan to see my daughter studying abroad. There are few places around here that you can find it. That said, this place blew me away. Upon walking though the door I felt like I was back in Japan. There is a great dining counter where you can watch them prepare the food. This is how most are laid out back in Japan. I proceeded to order the spicy chicken and it was wonderful. It had the perfect amount of kick to it that made it spicy, but not too hot. Our server had no knowledge whatsoever of the menu items when we asked questions. Our appetizer came out AFTER our Ramen bowls. One of the cooks was very visibly behind the line eating food with his hands while he cooked! Completely unsanitary and a huge turn off. Ordered the "Double the Flavor" ramen for lunch today, and it convinced me that I no longer have to drive to Palatine/Arlington Heights/Mount Prospect for authentic, delicious ramen when I am in the suburbs visiting my family. The owners have clearly taken the time to develop knowledge of what makes good ramen, and clearly have passion for what they do. The result? Complex, flavorful broth, tender pork and they bring the spice if that is your preference. As a city girl who spent part of her childhood in Asia, I highly recommend RamenDoBo.
