Cha-Shu Plate

I think it's a best Japanese spot I ever tried in USA. If it's lacking anything- meat from Japan??? Very tasty. Very rich. Big portions. Makes you feel warm in cold days

I went to Misoya during their opening month and came back for a quick dinner with friends. The ramen is pretty filling and heavy, so it makes for a great meal if you're starving! For me, I am fighting for my life to get through these delicious bowls. As far as ramen places, I think it's pretty solid! The cha-shu gets a nice char on it and has a good flavor. The only thing I have about my bowl is the fried tofu. The actual coating oil the tofu got soaked pretty fast and started falling off very quickly. Can't say if you can fry some tofu that is resistant to sitting in soup, but I would rather have regular tofu at that point. Still a solid ramen place!

Ordered carry out. 2 ramens and a half order of nooses with broth. Good thing we checked the bag before leaving the parking lot, because the broth for the noodles wasn't put in. Walked back in and showed the receipt and were given the broth. The dining room was full with people waiting in the entry hall. Looked like the entire kitchen was being manned by one overworked chef. The ramen was really tasty- very large portion of noodles and toppings. The pork chashu was tender and smoky. Really enjoyed the

My Ramen Misoya visit can only be described as a roller coaster experience. Two of my absolutely favorite food items in one sitting: fried chicken(karaage) and Ramen. Two things that I've probably consumed more in the past 10 years than most people in a lifetime. This was a chance I couldn't pass up. But seldom do I experience such disappointment, yet such euphoria in the same meal. Karaage: boy oh boy. Not only is this the best karaage, but this might be top 5 best chicken anything I've had ever. It's that good. Tender juicy chicken thighs(a chicken breast can only dream to be this juicy)....and that coating? The airy crispy batter is everything. As im eating, I'm sad that it will soon have to end. It's that good!! Cha su ramen: ok guys, I'm going to be honest. This just isnt it. First of all, how busy can a single bowl be? There's are actually so many ingredients, that it actually makes it hard to eat without the bowl being larger. But quantity does not equal quality. I'll admit the noodles are nicely chewy and the egg is immaculate. The perfect gooey ramen egg. That's where it ends. The chasu itself is way over grilled and has crossed over to the thick and tough to chew category. The ratio of cabbage is off. The potato wedge is unnecessary adds nothing. But the broth is the most flagrant offense here. Where's the rich flavor? Where's that umami? There are simply too many technical flaws to overlook. The karaage is worth the trip 10 times over. I came for the ramen, but if I left without experiencing the chicken karaage, there would have been a void left in my soul!

I've been here twice now and the food is really good. Ramen was simply amazing. The first time I came here had a little bit of a wait to get a Ramen but this time it arrived really quick. It's super delicious. It's very filling and bursting with flavors. I wish they had more broth options. They offer all the ramen with pork broth and they have a couple of vegetarian options. Hope they introduce beef and chicken broth too. Overall , I had a good experience. I would definitely be back again.

This food is incredible every time! Highly recommend the potato croquettes. It's awesome that they have a whole vegetarian menu!

Spicy Edamame

This place is small and gets busy fast in the evening especially weekends. Usually go here during the week daytime when it's less busy. Always worth the wait though! Food is fresh and reasonably priced. The spicy edamame is a must order when visiting.

One of the best tonkotsu ramens I have ever had, 10/10

Delicious food, nothing was bad, tastes as good as it looks if not better! Good service, no complaints.

The ramen is really good, but my friend and i both agree their spicy is not spicy enough for us. the reason for the low score is because the place was swamped with people and to go orders and they were way hehind, i felt sorry for the people who were their on the lunch break. Got the Hokkaido Cha-Shu Ramen for $18.80 and small order of Karrage. I'm not a miso flavored fan, but definitely enjoyed their version without any reservation. The service was awesome, food came out quickly and water was filled without asking for more water. They have bar seating that goes around the kitchen and tables on the opposite side. I got here before 5 and it wasn't busy but the place got packed little after 5pm, so I would recommend you go before dinner rush.

Still going strong :) I remember when they first opened in the area I recommend the chicken karaage, fried battered chicken pieces, to start off. Then a big bowl of any (all?) of the noodles with soup.

Karaage, "cha-siu" (Japanese style)

When Ramen Misoya first opened, tables were at a premium, and there's a good reason for that: this suburbs spot truly hits the right notes for a simple ramen concept that gets the basics right. Try the chicken karaage for a treat. 90% of the time, it comes out perfect, and 100% of the time you'll probably find it superior to what you're used to.

There was a reason I didn't come back after so many years. My sister had never been here and wanted to meet up with a friend. I thought I would give it another shot, but I was less than satisfied. Aside from the portions and service being good, the ramen broth is sub par. Cute ramen shop, but the space is small that it can feel congested. It was fun to be seated up at the ramen bar though. Apps: Karaage chicken could use much more flavor. Even after I asked for extra lemon to squeeze on top. Shrimp tempura was really greasy. Dumpling wonton texture was good, but I'm not a fan of chives, and it was too much. Corn croquette was decent and fell apart after the first bite. But with all the apps, there was a generic sauce for each one, except the dumplings. The sauce was just missing a component. Ramen: We ordered 3 different ramen. Tokyo cha-shu, ISE cha-shu, and Tonkotsu spicy. It was so, so salty with no rich pork flavor or umami to balance the taste. It was disappointing to say the least. Our friend did not finish her spicy tonkotsu, while my sister and I fished out the noodles, eggs, and cha-shu so we didn't have to endure the salty broth. The egg though was cooked to a perfect jammy yolk. But the cha-shu was overly grilled to my liking. I've had better miso flavored ramen at other restaurants, but this place is not of of them. There is a vegetarian menu as well. Though Ramen Misoya is not for me, it may be for you.

But the whole market looks awesome, very Japanese style setups for each restaurant. One thing for sure, with that many options it was hard to choose, but my mind was set for ramen so Santouka was the winner. Staff was quick. No messing around. Order, pay, food comes out pretty fast. I got the large Toroniku Spicy Miso. The toroniku (pork cheek) comes on the side. The pork was crazy good. Super tender, almost too soft honestly, it just melted the second I took a bite of it. The broth was the star though. Really rich miso flavor, deep and savory. Slightly salty in a good way, but balanced. I expected it to be spicy because of the name, but it wasn't really spicy at all, more like a warm miso punch. The noodles were soft with a little chew to them, which I like. And the broth sticks to them pretty well. Honestly just really good ramen. Simple as that.

My husband had heard good things and I am always up for anything. Four of us shared two ramen bowls and a Shiyake Ikura Gohan (salmon, rice and roe). Everything was very tasty. Service was fine, it took quite a while for our food to be ready but we found a table and did some people watching while we waited. Tables are usually filled on the weekends... not everyone cleans up after themselves, which makes the dining area look messy. Sometimes, a table will be empty but dirty causing a little bit of confusion if it is available or not.

It has become our go-to spot when we want a simple, relaxing meal featuring comfort food, or just a nice bowl of ramen. Our favorite dishes include: Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen ($15.99) -- This comes with three rectangular slices of chashu that are nicely lean, with just enough fat to add flavor. The half-boiled egg was cooked to perfection, the noodles had an ideal texture, and the broth was rich and flavorful. The portion was just right for me. Unagidon ($20.99) -- Fluffy sushi rice topped with fillets of eel glazed in a sweet soy-based sauce, served with miso soup. The bowl is full of flavor and very satisfying. The portion is perfect for me as well. Fried Mini Octopus ($10.99) -- We love the crispy, delicious mini octopus. It's a great appetizer to share. On our most recent visit, my husband ordered the Nabeyaki Udon ($17.99), which was topped with shrimp tempura, fish cake, tempura flakes, half an egg, and scallions. The bowl was tasty, but when comparing it with a similar dish at another Japanese restaurant in Northbrook at the same price, we found the portion at Nomu a little less generous. The other restaurant included an additional tempura shrimp and many chicken pieces, while Nomu's version did not include chicken. Because of that, my husband will probably stick with their ramen rather than order the Nabeyaki Udon again. All in all, we really enjoy our meals at Nomu Ramen and Izakaya. With friendly and attentive service, clean and comfortable seating, and a convenient location close to home, we'll definitely keep coming back! 4.5 rounded up to 5 stars.

The dining room is really pretty, and well-appointed! We were seated right away by friendly staff. Looking around, this appeared to be a very family-friendly establishment, as that was, by far, the most prominent type of connoisseur in the house on this evening! Our waitress was wonderful, and helped us with some recommendations upon us letting her know it was our first visit! She checked in with us frequently, and made sure drinks were always refilled promptly! We had a bunch of different items, and all were very good! We tried sushi rolls, beef noodles, and ramen. I'd have to say that the beef noodles probably were the best item for me! Prices were just about as you'd expect: not too high, but not super cheap either...but wholly justified by the great food and lovely service and experience! There's also discrepancy in their menu and what they actually have available as it seems they also display items for the the cafe next door. We happened to arrive during happy hour so some menu items were discounted. They also have a complimentary salad bar. We ordered chicken karaage, potstickers, salmon avocado sushi, and I had the katsu sandwich. All the food items we ordered came separately over a span of 20+ minutes, with the sandwich arriving last and cold. Not only did the sandwich come on a cold sourdough bread, the meat also had an unusual texture and so I ended up throwing it out. The other items we ordered were lacking in flavor. The chicken karaage was prepared well but it had no flavor. I'm regret spending money at this establishment.

So we got out of the car and saw someone pull up in front of the restaurant and jump out at 11:59. As soon as the door was unlocked at 12pm, this customer went in, and a few others after them. This is a small joint, and it was already half full by the time we ordered, then sat down (they told us the table at which to sit). I didn't know, but asked, and found out that a salad bar and miso soup are also included. The salad bar was pretty decent, with fresh vegs. They even had French fried onions (my guilty pleasure) and a very good House dressing (ginger vinaigrette). The portions are enormous. The couple next to us got ramen, and it was practically overflowing. We ordered takoyaki (too much food, we didn't need). I had the Pork Katsu bowl and my companion had a Katsu curry. I wished I had ordered the curry -- it looked dark and rich and thick like pudding (not like a boxed curry). They also gave us a bonus piece of chicken karaage which was so large and crispy. I think I'll get the curry next time, or the ramen. We originally came because we were going to get a karaage sando, but get the curry.

We started off with a Japanese calamari appetizer. It was not seasoned at all just a little bit of salt. It really could use some other flavors. They gave us plain mayonnaise to dip it in, it was OK, but I was hoping that there would've been a nice specialty sauce.. My husband and I both had the chicken Ramen. It was just average. I don't think I would eat that again if I came here. It shocked me to see Sherri tomatoes floating in the soup. The broth had no flavor. It really needs some spices when they're cooking it. The table has Sriracha, fresh garlic, and red pepper flakes that you can add to your food which I did. There are a lot of menu options, so we might be back to try something else. We were unhappy that the appetizer came out a minute before our soup came to the table.
