Filthy room window
Gladys C.

This was a gift for my birthday a hiking vacation with my family. We selected the hotel based on the location close to the airport and north 101 to access the redwoods and hiking trails. We should have collectively scrolled and considered all the poor reviews. The hotel was not inexpensive and the quality was just not there. The staff I will say are very nice people but the property needs to be brought up to Wyndham standards. The property is not kept clean. When you arrive you see filthy windows and doors. How much does it cost to just wash the windows? The carpets in the common areas (i.e., hallways) are badly stained. The pictures of the property used to attract customers are staged and heavily photoshopped. The furniture in the rooms are in need of sanding and refinishing or just replacement. There are no elevators all stairs if staying on the second floor. Also, a big issue I noticed was there is no security at this property all exits and entrances to the guest floors are completely unlocked 24/7! There are no security cameras by the entrances and exits. This was a great fear for me and my family so we always took caution with securing our room. There was no one to help carry bags up and down stairs. They also have issues with housekeeping although you will see a cleaning cart in the early morning until late day in the hallways the front desk will tell you they have no cleaning person for the day. The bathroom linen does not smell fresh. We booked for 8 nights but left early due to the quality of the hotel and it was just sad. Again the staff seemed very nice and as helpful as they could be but they only could do as much as they could considering the ran down property. Wyndham should be ashamed or notified about this place and fix it up or remove their name from it. I truly felt cheated and robbed.

Big fish in a small tank. This is animal abuse.

The staff were friendly but I did not like how they kept the fish in such a small tank. Fish are intelligent, sentient beings. Imagine yourself being trapped in a tiny room for a long period of time, all for another species' entertainment. This is animal abuse.

Broken window in the front of the hotel (with a camera)?

Very disappointed in general- from the check-in to the room to the management. This is not a Ramada, it is stuck between a motel 6 and a motel 8- we shall refer to it as a Motel 7. Where to start. There is NO POOL OR SPA. They will tell you one thing and then when you get there they let us know that it is not their pool (but the neighboring RV parks pool) and we are not allowed to use it. We were there for three nights (we tried to find another hotel but couldn't on such short notice). We were told when we went to the desk to ask for more towels (because no matter what, the shower shoots out at you and floods the bathroom- no way to regulate the shower water pressure) that we needed more towels. They told us they were out of towels and to check Back at 11- it's was 8am. Never did receive any more towels. When we got in the room first thing we noticed was the smallest tv (maybe 20") that was sitting on its stand crooked and then a broken picture frame hanging on the wall. The remote didn't work and bed skirts on both bed were ripped. There was also a random empty picture frame hanging on the wall. Yes empty frame. The beds frames were loud in general for two people to sleep on, and the pillows were so flat. I used a balled up sweatshirt to help with the pillow. I couldn't get any more towels, I wasn't going to ask for another pillow. There is no security card required to get into the building where your rooms are so anyone can walk in. There was a broken window on the top floor right when you pulled in to the gates parking lot. We tried to talk to the manager since we were paying hotel prices for a motel room, we left our 2 numbers at the desk and were told the manager would call us- never did. When we checked out we asked about it and the gentleman said "well I gave him the note" that's it. And our boys said the breakfast had steamed sausages which were terrible and waffles that were burnt. The only thing that kept us there was lack of options and that the sheets smelt like bleach so they were clean. That's it.

After an 8 Hour drive I arrived to the hotel and checked in. When I got to my room, I instantly had an overwhelming smell of mildew. The bathroom clearly has had water damage and it was filthy. Filth in the corners, in the vent in the ceiling, along the mirror, the doors, even the light switch had a yucky smudge on it. But it was late, and I was exhausted, I went to sleep. the next day I was gone all day. Return to the hotel in the late evening to find new towels wrapped in plastic trash bag at the door. (tacky) I went to bed, woke to use the restroom at about one in the morning and there was a huge cockroach in the bathroom. I threw a towel on top of it and I didn't sleep the rest of the night. The following morning, I told the girl at the front desk and I sent her photos. I did a follow up call with the general manager on that Monday when I returned home and he informed me that that was a field cricket. And somehow it being a field cricket made it acceptable that it was in my room and it was not a field cricket. It was a cockroach. He then proceeded to argue with me on what type of insect it was. I asked to speak with someone higher above him, he said there was no one. I asked who owns the hotel; He then finally told me it was public knowledge. I then proceeded to tell him that I would be pursuing this complaint and he then threatened me that if I continued to pursue this complaint that he would be filing ever restraining order against me. I have been in hospitality and property management for over 30 years. This hotel is filthy and the treatment by the GM was extremely unprofessional. The photos speak 1000 words.

Ramada inn in Arcata Ca. Very unclean
Mollie B.

This hotel is unsafe and unclean. There was unwashed blood on the blankets. They did reassign me to a different room, however that room was also dirty(strange stains on the bed cover, dirty shower, dust CAKED in the light fixtures) The man at the front desk was nice and accommodating, but this hotel was the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. In addition to the cleanliness issues inside of the room, there were other things that didn't sit well with me. The door leading to the outside remained unlocked all night. Also when I first walked in there was a bag of trash just sitting in the hallways. Guess it's a visual representation of how trashy this hotel really is

Map shown tennis court and workout room that don't exist

We spent one night here, two king size rooms, it was pretty expensive, the beds were comfortable, seemed clean, the pool was closed, we were told it was owned by the trailer park next door, the hotel had an easement and they couldn't tell us when it would be open again, we asked for towels and we're told they were out, the exercise room shown on website has been turned into some kind of office, same with the tennis court, it is now a weird outdoor courtyard, staff seemed nice (not super helpful), also the rooms which cost the same, one had a normal size tv and the other was bout half the size, I'd say maybe a bit overpriced certainly misleading

Black hair in the tub!

Upon arriving late from a long drive, I was horrified to find a long black hair (I have short blonde hair) In the tub. I called the front desk and a guy named Andrew said that he could change my room but I had already gotten moved in and told him that I just wanted to have a bath and go to sleep. He came and I asked him to remove the hair from the bathroom and he did. The next morning I spoke with the manager who was very nice and said that he would try to accommodate my request to have my room complimented. He also moved me across the hall to another room. I thanked him and went out for a long day. That night when I got to my new room, I checked and there was black hair hair in the drain.I felt like I was in a bad movie. I could not believe it. Bla bla bla , when I called Andrew at the front desk he told me that" I got into trouble for helping you ". Something about coming in to my room. They ended up complimenting me for one night. I guess that they didn't believe me. It made my stomach wrench. Really bad. The first hair was in the caulking and the second night it came out of the drain. Gross. Photo is

It's right by the airport, but it was surprisingly peaceful. I went on a quick walk around the area and it was actually really nice. Walking inside, you're immediately welcomed into a very pretty Holiday Inn Express--it's clean, bright, and just feels good to be in. They had free cookies and popcorn, plus a little complimentary coffee and hot chocolate bar, which after a long day of driving was genuinely appreciated. The woman who checked me in was wonderful--super kind, long gray hair, just a really pleasant person. She even gave me a room with a small balcony view, which was such a nice bonus after being on the road all day. The room itself was clean, modern, and I had zero issues with it. They also offer a complimentary breakfast buffet, which matters more than people admit--there are hotels that cost more than this and don't even offer that. Holiday Inn Express isn't luxurious, and that's not an insult. It's not trying to be. It's clean, comfortable, reliable, and consistently better than you expect. You go in with low expectations and leave thinking, okay, I get why people swear by this. For what it is, it really punches above its weight, and I'm genuinely glad we stayed here. Thanks!

It was about 40 minutes away from the parks where we wanted to hike. We stayed three nights. The hotel was clean, adjacent to many services, staffed by kind and polite front counter personnel. The beds were comfortable, with four pillows on each of the queen beds. There were plenty of outlets to charge devices. The shower had great pressure, and there were plenty of towels for both of us. There were guests next to us, but we never heard them. We did hear people jumping up and down in the room above us, but I can't fault the hotel for that.... We did not eat the free breakfast here, but it looked tasty and there were enough options to satisfy us if we had chosen to eat here. We brought our own food. Parking was free and close to our room.

We booked through a third party and were NOT warned that the hotel is undergoing MAJOR remodeling, top to bottom, end to end. I was not even informed by hotel staff, when I called ahead for confirmation that our room would be in a quiet area of the hotel. When we arrived, the lobby was filled with scaffolding sitting on cement floors, electricians, tile setters, carpet installers, and other construction workers. We felt sorry for the receptionists sitting at their folding table, explaining that the construction activity would start between 9 & 10 AM and end late afternoon. (It did NOT. The noise and banging started at 7:30 AM and one night, continued until past 10:30 PM when I called the front desk.) Before checking in, we WERE allowed to look at our room, which was efficient, large, newly refurbished, clean, and quiet (while we were looking at the room). The typical chain-hotel breakfast was offered, while workers were moving large rolls of carpeting around and through the room. Trays were provided to take breakfasts back to the room, as there was no seating in the lobby or breakfast area. So! If you're considering a stay at this hotel, call ahead and ask if ALL remodeling is completed, unless you don't mind a stay in a construction zone.

It is walking distance to restaurants, coffee, shops, and bars It is walking distance to lovely hikes in the redwoods and walks along the arcata Marsh. There are Airbnb's in the area, which I may try one day, who knows There are other hotels that are really close by car. Either two exits north or about 10 minutes south in Eureka. I chose this because of location It is over 100 years old Although some may say it needs updating, I think it's kept some of the old charm yet the beds are comfortable. The rooms are clean and the service is spectacular. Everybody who works here is extremely kind No, you're not getting a five diamond resort, which I do prefer. I generally stay at higher end Marriott properties, but that is not an option in this town. I see people saying negative things about noise and homeless. As far as that goes, I've been lucky enough to have rooms facing inside versus the street so noise has not been an issue. The walls are not them, but the gaps under the doors and the thin windows are a factor. Yes they are homeless but they're different from what I see in Southern California down here. The homeless are scary in Arcata. The homeless are fun and interesting to talk to and super kind. I do park my car outside on the street and while I usually am afraid that something will happen in my car I'm not afraid here. Yes, they have a breakfast that's included, but really don't waste your time. I tried it one day thought about trying at the second day and then decided to find somewhere else to eat. Take a chance You will either hate it or love it

Unfortunately, due to my most recent experience being so awful, I will never return and I also strongly urge you to find another option for yourself. To start I had booked a room for my friend and I for 3 nights. It was a room with a queen bed and an office space which they say on their own website there's room for a rollaway bed. I made sure to contact the hotel the morning of our arrival and requested a rollaway bed. We arrived that evening and checked in without a hitch. I'm well familiar with the challenging parking situation and that the plaza gets a bit rowdy so those things weren't an issue for us. When we get to the room there is no rollaway, ok, a bit annoying but the young woman at the front desk was super nice and told us she would get it and set it up. Cool. We went to get some food at Don's and I was looking forward to taking a nice hot bath when we returned. When I turned on the hot water I got only cold, I tried running sink trying to get it but the sink wouldn't drain properly so I kept having to turn it off. Back to the tub, I ran it for an excessively long amount of time and still no hot water so I gave up and retired to my rollaway bed. The one they provided me must have previously been a trampoline for a caffeinated 5 year old, it was shaped weird and very uncomfortable and I felt like I was in a taco. Also the boilers (aka radiators) made crazy sounds all night and while we went to bed freezing we both woke up in the middle of the night to an extremely uncomfortably hot situation. Even with all this, we didn't complain and we're going to sit out our three day stay. However, in the early afternoon of the third day while I was sleeping, my friend who has breast cancer, was preparing some marijuana cigarettes for us to enjoy later that day, unfortunately she needed a plunger for the toilet and she called the front the man who arrived was not friendly at all, she told him she would do the plunging (since I was sleeping on the rollaway right next to the bathroom) and he abruptly informed her that if we got caught smoking weed, we would be charged $500. She told him ok. Once again, we were NOT smoking weed, we had purchased some locally and also had devices to partake of it. I guess the man, we'll call him Charles, saw or smelled something and just assumed because less than 10 minutes later we got a phone call from the front desk telling us that we will not be charged, but we had one hour to vacate the premises. I asked to speak to the manager, named Sherri and she was supposedly unavailable for that entire hour while we now had to pack up all of our stuff and find a new place and also wait out the fact that this happened before standard check in times so we had our entire car packed back up and had to wait over an hour before we could check into our new (much better) location at an Airbnb 2 blocks away. We also had reservations at Larapin Café for 5 o'clock, but since this happened at around two, it left us not enough time and so we had to reschedule our dinner reservation which was very inconvenient because we were also attending an event I had paid for at Richards Goat Tavern which we now had to miss in favor of our dinner reservation. Pretty unbelievable seeing as the hotel is located in Arcata and its reputation for the wacky Tabaccy... also the cherry on top being that upon walking out of the establishment we were greeted by a massive cloud of pot smoke lol. I would've welcomed an adult conversation with either Charles or Sherri but apparently both of them are cowards who would rather let the front desk people do their dirty work. Also worth mentioning is Charles brings his daughter to work and allows her to roll full body down the ONLY staircase as people are trying to come and go. I hope his low wage position is worth him ruining someone's plans without a reason. As for Sherri, I invite you to read the many negative reviews she has received via google and how unprofessionally she responds to them. BUT, If you like cold showers, no refrigerator, no hair dryer, uncomfortable sleeping arrangements, noisy neighbors, being aggressively panhandled, the smell of weed and rude management, the Hotel Arcata is definitely your place.
