This hotel met all of our expectations. We used this hotel as a base of operations to hike in Redwood National and State Parks. It was about 40 minutes away from the parks where we wanted to hike. We stayed three nights. The hotel was clean, adjacent to many services, staffed by kind and polite front counter personnel. The beds were comfortable, with four pillows on each of the queen beds. There were plenty of outlets to charge devices. The shower had great pressure, and there were plenty of towels for both of us. There were guests next to us, but we never heard them. We did hear people jumping up and down in the room above us, but I can't fault the hotel for that.... We did not eat the free breakfast here, but it looked tasty and there were enough options to satisfy us if we had chosen to eat here. We brought our own food. Once the CONSTRUCTION AND REMODELING is completed, the Hampton Inn & Suites in Arcata, may be ideal for a hotel-chain stay. We booked through a third party and were NOT warned that the hotel is undergoing MAJOR remodeling, top to bottom, end to end. I was not even informed by hotel staff, when I called ahead for confirmation that our room would be in a quiet area of the hotel. When we arrived, the lobby was filled with scaffolding sitting on cement floors, electricians, tile setters, carpet installers, and other construction workers. We felt sorry for the receptionists sitting at their folding table, explaining that the construction activity would start between 9 & 10 AM and end late afternoon. (It did NOT. The noise and banging started at 7:30 AM and one night, continued until past 10:30 PM when I called the front desk.) Before checking in, we WERE allowed to look at our room, which was efficient, large, newly refurbished, clean, and quiet (while we were looking at the room). The typical chain-hotel breakfast was offered, while workers were moving large rolls of carpeting around and through the room. Trays were provided to take breakfasts back to the room, as there was no seating in the lobby or breakfast area. So! If you're considering a stay at this hotel, call ahead and ask if ALL remodeling is completed, unless you don't mind a stay in a construction zone. read more

This was one of the nicest and cleanest hotels we stayed at on our trip. The interior is beautiful, especially the lobby, and everything felt well-maintained and thoughtfully designed. The staff here were truly exceptional--professional, kind, and hardworking. One employee in particular went above and beyond, reopening the kitchen just to help us get hot water for tea while we were waiting on laundry late at night. That level of hospitality really stood out. Our room was spotless and cozy, and we even felt comfortable enough to take baths here--something we didn't do at any other hotel. The laundry room was a huge bonus, even though it was pricey and required a separate key. Unfortunately, the machines had issues: one load (a towel for our bunnies' carrier) didn't ring out properly, and we had to wring it out by hand and still struggled to dry it completely after two cycles and even a blow dryer. We brought this up to the front desk, and they said they'd alert maintenance. The breakfast was another highlight--fresh, clean, and with healthy options, plus courtesy newspapers. Great communication overall from the staff, and we appreciated how easy it was to feel at home. That said, the surrounding area felt a little sketchy, and it was odd that there's no gated entry or on-site security, especially since the outer doors automatically lock after a certain hour and require key card access. It didn't feel unsafe inside the hotel, but the neighborhood did raise some questions. One awkward note: guests here didn't seem to understand pet boundaries. We had people approach and try to engage with our dog in elevators and enclosed spaces, which was uncomfortable. All in all, I give this place a 3.5 because hotel was a standout for cleanliness, comfort, and customer service. read more

First time staying at this chain. Inside was nice - big lobby. Free coffee and tea. Parking was limited - free though. We had a king room. Good size. Had a mini frig and microwave. It was a good size room. The A/C was an older model and they had it across the room facing the bed. It hit the bed when it came on- freezing us out. Couldn't turn it off because the room was stuffy and window didn't open. Free breakfast in the am. Good selection of food. If you're in Arcata it's a good place to stay. The surrounding area has a lot of transients. Couldn't get out of the driveway when going to dinner - they were standing there doing their thing. Kinda scary. read more

Hilton Gold Members Beware. Our company does business in Humboldt County and I had been warned by colleagues about how this location treats Hilton rewards members. We booked anyways because it was close to Cal Poly Humboldt and our son was on a recruiting visit there. The staff (as I had been warned) didn't offer upgrades. In fact, they flat out refused to and said it was too late in the day. I tested trying to book 7 upgraded rooms via the Hilton app, and it let me get right to payment, meaning there were over 7 suites available for the duration of my stay. Also, the hotel had randomly chosen my room (visible when trying online check-in) as a second floor unit right next to the noisy elevator. We also weren't offered the complimentary drink and snack at check in. If you are looking for Hilton rewards perks at this place, save your money. Giving one extra star because the lady working the breakfast area was great. read more

We were traveling through Northern California and looked prior to our trip for Hilton properties and didn't see any to chose from in the area except this one. We booked our stay for a Monday night in April in a King Suite. We like this room type as it gives us more space. We checked in via the Hilton app but noticed they did not have the digital key option. Therefore we stopped in at the front desk. This hotel looks to be a bit older but does look like it is kept up and clean. Our room was at the end of the hall and was quiet and comfortable. They have an indoor pool and the location is convenient to the Highway. Overall it was a good stay! read more

Only stayed 1 night but would stay again! Lobby area needs an update but my room in 1st floor near the gym was clean and seemed updated. Check in and check out was easy. Good location with plenty of places to eat and a gas station nearby. The only complaint I have (but didn't deduct stars because it's not the hotels fault), my room was next to the ice machine room and that door was banging shut every time someone got ice, it woke me up all hours of the night. read more

She will smile, lie and look you straight in the eye while doing it. I warn anyone thinking about staying there to stay away. The nightly rate is expensive. Her treatment towards veterans is disrespectful and rude. I ask all my brothers and sisters in Arms to not patronize this hotel. I called their customers service 888 line and was refused a decent compensation. I was denied to talk to a representative in the United States, too. I will never stay at any Hilton anywhere until I can get satisfaction for the theft of my money and apology for the affront at the hands of that awful person, Delila Morales. read more

My wife and I headed north from the San Francisco Bay Area for an extended weekend with no plans, and ended up staying at the Hampton Inn in Arcata for a couple nights. The General Manager, Dalila, and her team made our stay absolutely enjoyable. This property totally lives up to, and exemplifies the Hilton/Hampton Inn brand. I needed a place that was wheelchair accessible and takes pets. My room had a roll in shower that was truly roll in. It was decently clean considering that they take pets. The only thing I would change is to remove the carpets in the rooms if they are going to take pets. My room was clean but with pets it is better to have rooms with floors that can clean up hair better but overall it is great. And Thanks to team member Tyler, he was so pleasant. read more

I travel for business 90% of the time. I have stayed at this hotel at least 4 weeks every year for the last 4 years. Most of the hotel staff was very helpful and welcoming, until my last stay in February 2025. My flight going in was delayed and rebooked 3 times, and as a result my bags were delayed. When my 2 bags were delivered to the hotel, it turned out only one was my bag. Trying to help the baggage clerk figure out what happened, turned out into the worst experience of my career. I asked the front desk clerk (Nathan) to see the FedEx label to verify the bag tag number, to which he replied that he is not allowed to release the bag to me. I never asked to have the bag, I merely wanted to see the tag number. When I asked to speak to a manager, he would not allow me to do that either, he refused to talk directly to the baggage clerk and he called the police to kick me out of the hotel. The police officer was able to convince him to allow me to stay (this was my last night there anyway). Needles to say, I was so wound up after this fiasco, with my blood pressure through the roof, that I wasn't able to sleep that night. I was able to speak to an assistant manager the next day and she took Nathan's side, unwilling to acknowledge any wrong doing on their side. I will never stay at this hotel again and I am considering never staying at any Hilton property in the future. I have been an Honors member since 2000 and this is the worst customer service I have ever encountered. read more

I stayed here with my son on 11/15/24 on the last night of our week long road trip. The check-in was easy enough, the room was clean, but my complaint is what happened after. Traveling with a 9year old with serious health condition is stressful and I accidentally left my Kindle behind after check out. I realized this at 9pm when I arrived home in Los Angeles. My first thought was "no big deal, I'll call and they will mail it to me". I called and the night front desk was super sweet he let me know he literally just checked someone into my room, but would look in the lost and found for it. I left my number, but something felt off. Low and behold I had $100s of dollars in charges to the point where my Amazon account was frozen starting at 8pm. I called back stating as much and was given a managers email and told to call in the morning. I just got off the phone with the front desk after being told the manager isn't in and the owner "just stepped out of their office". I was advised to call the police to have them handle the situation, no apology, no acknowledgment that an employee of theirs stole not only my property but money from my account. Furious does not begin to cover where I am at right now. As a Hilton hotel I expected more and will now raise absolute hell. read more

I stay here once a month for 7-10 days. In September I would have stayed her 15 days. The front desk never answers the phone. I requested room 232 and it was on my reservation. They gave the room to someone who hadn't checked in yet. After I waited on the phone several times. Then when I complained Jocelyn canceled my reservation. She said she could refuse service. I like to start with the good... The hotel was overall very clean. The front desk receptionist Ivan was very friendly and courteous and assisted us when we were having issues. The reason for my low star review was how unimpressed we were overall with this hotel, I typically stay at Hampton inns, and this was the worst one I've stayed at. The breakfast was sub-par. Pillows uncomfortable and the beds left my back hurting due to how incredibly firm they are, it was like sleeping on a pile of bricks. Our bathroom door would not fully unlock when we would open it, and we kept getting locked out. I had to call front desk twice to come open the door for us. You'd be better off staying somewhere nicer for the cost. For $240/night I'd expect at least a comfortable bed. read more

Car broken into in the hotel parking lot within the first and only night of staying there. We parked directly under a light post and in view of three of the hotel's security cameras, only to find out later that the cameras are only live feed and I guess the feed isn't monitored. Seemed like a less than great location pulling up to the hotel but it was a quick stay so we thought it'd be fine. I recommend staying elsewhere. We camped multiple nights prior to the hotel stay and our stuff was safer out there than back in town. read more

The hotel was a pretty nice place to stay, nice rooms, pretty friendly staff. The check-in process was pretty painless, couple questions, swipe a credit card, and they give you a room. I did notice the walls where kind of thin though, I could hear almost every door open down the hallway. Something interesting I found with the room specifically was that you needed your keycard to turn on the lights. I actually thought that was a pretty good idea, I've never seen that before. I tried to watch TV while I was here, but for some reason the TV wouldn't give me the names of the shows I was watching, or the channels. It took me about 30 minutes to find a show I liked. Quaint, clean, & comfortable. It's a historical site and has done a great job at tying to preserve a good part of Eureka. There are a number of great painted pictures of historical figures. It is centrally located and you can get to downtown eureka and bars and restaurants. Staff was friendly and helpful. read more

I ended up here because I miss booked my reservation next door at comfort in. It ended up being $414 for 1 night and the room is comparable to comfort inn and in some ways not as good ( comfort inn is $150 a night) The coffee and ice bucket are in the bathroom. The bathroom door locks and when the lady came up to unlock it she said all the rooms do it and I should put the trash can in front of the door so it doesn't close. The house keeper thought I was crazy for asking for a trash bag for the trash cans so I guess that's not a normal thing. Because of what I mentioned above this would have been only 2 stars. But the gym is amazing for a hotel gym and they have tea and coffee available all day in the lobby. I am disappointed that breakfast is still grab and go but that's the world we are living in read more

Our room was filthy. There were large stains on the benches at the ends of the beds and when we opened the pullout bed in the sofa, it looked like someone spilled hot chocolate or something all over it. (See the attached photos.) I asked the desk staff for another room and was told I would have to pay for 2 rooms because I opened the door of the dirty room and broke the seal that indicated they had supposedly cleaned it. I would definitely not recommend this hotel. It's dated and not worth the price they charge. read more

Save your money and go elsewhere. When we arrived at the Hampton Inn two days ago, we noticed that multiple other hotels around the location had gated parking lots. The Hampton Inn does not and we immediately became concerned. After checking in, we discovered construction scaffolding set up outside of our window. We promptly checked with the front desk and were assured that no constuction would be happening during our stay. The next morning a worker was standing outside of our window jackhammering so loud that we could not talk to each other. We shared our concerns again with the front desk staff, who were extremely rude. As a result we had to check out and cut our trip short. read more

Check in staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast staff worked hard and kept the area clean. However, this hotel is dated, and starting to look run down. Our room appeared clean on the surface, but there was a musty smell you could immediately detect from outside the room the moment you opened the door. After a few minutes of walking on the carpet, your feet change color with the dirt from the carpet. And one last thing, the food at the BBQ place next door, don't waste your time and money. read more

Way overpriced considering it is small town. 5 star is due to fact they no longer put shampoos and conditioners and the likes in a small disposable plastic container which is thrown out after single stay. The third star is for our mistake...we didn't notice that there was no refrigerator or microwave. Otherwise, the room was fine. The major annoyance was that the elevator was out for our two day stay and they put us on the third floor! THEY HAVE BED BUGS SEE PHOTOS ATTACHED. I already had a bad feeling about the place between the junkies and crackheads outside and the complete garbage busted mattresses where I could feel EVERY single metal spring. And the bathroom which is dingy and muggy because it has no AC. Gross. When asked about a mattress pad or a different room were denied and told we could have an "extra comforter." Cool. But the real kicker was waking up the next morning WITh BED BUGS IN MY BED. I want to vomit writing this review. We called the desk and asked to speak to the manager, told manager theres bed bugs and the reply was "Oh, do you want a different room?" Which our reply was "Absolutely not your hotel has bed bugs." Then they said "Oh, so you want to check out?" WOW are your last two brain cells firing? DUH WE WANT TO CHECK OUT. They said someone would be up shortly. Waited 1 hour, no one arrived, called the desk again "Oh, we have scheduled an exterminator." We said "So no management is coming up here and we have had our time wasted for an hour??" AWESOME! We brought the desk a bedbug in a paper cup. Which of course they denied all possibility of their hotel being infested saying that an exterminator will determine if its a bed bug. IF YOU GOT 2 EYES AND GOOGLE YOU WILL KNOW ITS A F*CKING BED BUG. No reimbursement for the hundreds of dollars of drying cleaning we now have to do, the suitcases we probably need to trash, and the insane inconvenience of trying to find another hotel ASAP. Our 1 night was refunded. Bravo. If you want your once a year 5 days vacation ruined by blood sucking parasites and crackheads with a $180/night sh*thole, make sure you book with Hampton Inn in Arcata! Internet problems. If you'd like to connect to the internet without going through grief and having to call their tech support number, go somewhere else. Apparently, this is a problem they have with Apple computers. Also, they have this weird thing where you have to put your room card in a special place if you want to turn on your lights. That is, you can't just put your room card in your pocket. As a result, it's more likely that you'll leave your room without your key card. Our room is clean and neat, but there's an annoying hum that sounds like a ceiling fan. Another reviewer mentioned that the sound couldn't be turned up on the TV. I can confirm that. Set the volume to max, and you have to stand right next to it to hear it. read more

Old, tired, worn out, not clean. We looked at two rooms and the were the same. Definitely NOT sanitized. Told the desk clerk we couldn't stay because of the above we were told we would be billed anyway. We were we asked to speak to the manager and she was not in and we would have to call in the next day. She refused to give us a credit. We complained to Hilton Honors. They told us they would talk to the manager and the manager would call us in no more than a day. She never called. We called back to Hilton Customer Service and got nowhere (except for a 5,000 point addition in their program - which is worth about $25). Spent over 2 house on calls to Hilton customer service because of wait times, dropped, calls and incorrect information. The fact they don't do a digital key should have told me the motel was way out of date. read more
