Bring back our friendly neighborhood grocery store! After going to work I went to Ralphs in San Marcos on Tuesday evening, 12/19/23 to pick up some stocking stuffers for my family, and while I was at the self checkout, I noticed one of the items I was about to purchase was defective. I pointed this out to the store worker that was in attendance, but I said I still wanted to buy the same item, just a different one. He then said I can get a new one myself. However, I was too tired to walk back to get a new one plus I had my hands full with the groceries I was buying and the drink I was holding, so I asked for help. The guy said who turned out to be the store manager said he couldn't leave his post nor does he have anyone to help me quoting, "Just like everywhere else, we are understaffed." And when I asked to speak to the manager he replied, "The problem is I am the manager!" I then proceeded to speak to him and asked him politely what would be the solution to this issue, and he responded, "I don't have the solution." I left the store and won't be coming back there for a while. I found the store manager to be unhelpful, dismissive and as if he has given up improving the customer service experience at his store. I had been a shopper here for a long time, and there was a time when store workers would even ask you if you needed help to load your groceries in your car. Buyer beware: the prices advertised are not what you're charged, it's usually higher. I've had such bad experiences with Ralph's. Their marketing is deceptive and prices marked are not what show up on your receipt. Here are three recent examples: Price of strawberries is marked on a big sign as $1.99, at the checkout it's marked as $3.49. Organic blackberries marked as $1.99 rings up as $4. But one get one free Foster farms' chicken doesn't ring up for second package as free. Spent over ten minutes only to be told by the manager that my packages were over the weight limit. I am done with Ralph's bait and switch tactics. read more

I have been going to this store since they first opened. I have watched this store circle the drain over the past two years. Poorly managed. Who ever thought of implementing extra-wide carts and clog the isles and more stack-outs, along the back main isle, so that customers struggle to get around each other is a poor excuse for leadership. I stop by this location occasionally because it's on my way home from work and it's a pretty standard grocery store. Recently, I came in for some tri-tip, which was advertised as trimmed. When I got home and took it out of the packaging, I found about a half inch layer of fat on the bottom part that was hidden by the packaging. If this was the first time this happened, I'd just chalk it up to an honest mistake. However, since I experienced the same issue last year at this location, it seems like a common practice. When half a pound of a 3 pound "trimmed" tri-tip is fat, it's pretty sketchy to advertise it as trimmed, especially since you're charging more for trimming it. read more

Dreadful experience on recent visits. Yesterday I needed ten items... half weren't in stock. No carts available, so I had to wrestle one off the edge of the landscaping kerb.... not easy or safe. The place seems very neglected and run down... nothing like my expectations given their price and adverts. The manager here should be embarrassed. read more

I used to frequent this location but moved out of the area. Upon moving back, all 3 of my interactions at this ralphs have unfortunately been difficult and have required atleast a 20 minute wait. I love this Ralphs. The employees are nicer than most of the other grocery chain stores. It's a 3 minute drive from work. The prices are pretty good. The fruits are fresh and they have a good variety of items. The times I have shopped here the store has been clean. The check out lines are not as long. I can do my grocery shopping during my lunch break and still make it back to work on time. Any store that makes it easy for me to wear my "super-mom" cape during a work day is at least 4-stars in my Yelp book. read more

Love love love my grocery store! Veggies are fresh, variety from all ethnic foods, random items you won't find at any other general grocery store, alcohol choices are spot on,....and there's even a kitchen appliance section. Staff is friendly and very comforting! PS...sushi is great too! read more

Had a sandwich here yesterday. Haven't been here for over a year, but since I hitched a ride with a co-worker and she came to Ralph's, I decided to have this instead of walking to Subway. Hmmm, won't be doing that again. While I had liked them years ago, I was trying to figure out why. Maybe because they were $4-5 back in the day, but these were now $6.99. I don't mind paying for a good sandwich, but sadly a $5 foot long is much better than this deli sub. The wheat tasted like a $0.69 loaf that you buy when you are short on cash and it expires the next day. That set the tone, as I couldn't really taste the chicken. The veggies didn't taste right, and I did notice that the green peppers were old. I was really surprised to see that they would actually serve that, since it looked visually unappealing. Should have said something, but, oh well. The deli employee was very nice and generous with the veggies, but I won't be doing that again. read more

Lots of parking, fresh produce and Sriracha Lay's; what more can a girl ask for? Their veggie prices can't compare to a Hispanic or Asian grocery store, but their dairy and juices make up for the difference. Their checkout lines move quickly so it's possible to be in and out in a jiffy. read more

So I just moved to San Diego and I have to say, I had to kiss a LOT of supermarket frogs before finding this prince of produce. Firstly, my hometown roots originate from the south where Ralphs is called Kroger. That was a pleasant slice of familiarity in a strange land of perfect weather and hilly roads. We are not in Kansas anymore, Toto! Anyway, Ralphs is wonderful. Amazing parmesan foccacia and crusty, rustic breads. They even have Swiss Vogels brand that I thought only happened in England! Ralphs has a whole huge line of ice-cream! A whole aisle that is like 20 of me stretched out! I mean there is a small part of it which is devoted to popsicles and other frozen nonsense, but mostly ice cream. It has like 5 types of Blackstrap Molasses which is quite the selection given that other places have a grand total of none. Great apples - I didn't even know apples could be 'great'? I always though apples are either just 'good' or 'okay'. They seem to do a good job of discounting stuff that's about to expire. Always a tick mark in my book as it wastes less food! Also Ralphs just has a lot of cool random stuff like dried squid in a clear plastic package. And they have two kinds of Mochi (6 pack of small sized ones) for like $1.50. WHAT EVEN IS THAT? Amazing. Ralphs has literally everything I need in such a gorgeously arranged space which is always busy and always full of amazing food and great deals. read more

This store's service of shopping for those who must closely observe COVID restrictions is such a godsend. Two employees do the shopping and bring your groceries to your car. The service is so appreciated. If you are using it be kind if they call to ask you to come a bit later than your pickup time. Just two of them are doing everything and union rules do not allow tips so the service is free. Kudos to Ralphs for offering this and thanks so much to the always cheerful employees whose work is keeping us safer. read more

I am incredibly irritated by this grocery store. Its very big, very clean, its close to my house, big selections...only one thing is lacking...but its a big thing. THE SERVICE IS TERRIBLE! Especially in the deli, I swear to god one of these days I am going to lose it. Its a bunch of old grouchy ladies with big stinks on their faces who act like I am such a bother when I come to get my lunch meat. They try to get you out of their face as fast as possible and dont say hello, dont say thank you, dont say have a nice day. I really despise coming here. Yesterday I was even lucky enough to walk over to hear them yelling at each other! And its been like this for years...heres a thought...fire the old grouches! they clearly dont care about their jobs anyway... The checkers arent much better...the other departments people are ok. In the area, its one of the nicer stores with a bakery, salad bar, sushi bar and deli. You can use EBT on any of these items, and they all taste decent and fresh. I would not go here for my everyday shopping but it is one of my regular stops for a good lunch! read more

I'm going to let you in on a secret. This Ralph has the best tasting fruits at the best everyday price (loss leaders are another matter). For instance, their Fuji apples are $.99/lb and tastes terrific. Bosc pears cannot be found cheaper than here. And their Hass avocados are very good (but only buy when on sale price). I go out of my way to buy their fruits because it tastes better than the other store close to me (that would be Sprouts..this makes me quite disappointed at Sprouts) read more

Today is Christmas Eve... I was dreading the store a friend told me about order online and pick up in store. I thought I would give it a try, I was more than impressed with my experience. I pulled up and there was a phone number I would call to get my groceries ( I went inside bc I needed my Starbucks) I was treated by Tina who was amazing, friendly and more than helpful. She reviewed my items with me put them in my cart and I was out the door. I got home put my groceries away and everything looked great (I was worried about produce). Thanks Tina! Good for most items, large selection of routine packaged stuff and produce. Have found most prices are LOWER than Albertsons/Vons unless their sales are running. Plenty of free parking accessible in/out from main road. Friendly, helpful staff including checkout. Nice branch of US Bank in-store. Liquor selection and pricing OK for those who imbibe. Carts readily available. Shell gas discounts with loyalty card. Small, really insignificant contribution to favorite charity also that way. But getting to it is becoming painful as more and more delaying and sometimes dead traffic lights are put in every 2-5 hundred feet on the main roads that access it. As travel time has more than doubled from my house I find it is easier and faster to shop Vons in Escondido which carries packaged salads not in Ralphs needed for my nutrition. Non-perishable home health and beauty aids are much less using e-commerce sites, you know the ones. read more

Great produce, meat, and bakery. Nice selection of housewares and cookware. New clean store, nice change from some of the other supermarkets in Escondido/San Marcos. For some reason I have a hard time finding things here, tho. Please don't make your customers wait a long time. I needed something from the front desk but pretty much ALL the staff just ignored me. No acknowledgement that I even existed. Others customers were also waiting but eventually left for the lack of attention. Please do your jobs properly and acknowledge the presence of your customers. Idiot stuffs. Their shopping carts are so big and heavy. I asked why not enough smaller carts available, they said customers don't like it. That's bs. I had to shop with that bulky cart and they put a lot of items in the middle of aisle. Making customers difficult to shop, move and block the road. I had to leave that big cart somewhere so I can shop and put items back into cart. After an hour of shopping, I was looking for cheese as my last item, where a lot of people around, so I left my cart in another place nearby not to block others. After 5 minutes, they took my cart away and removed my stuffs I shopped for 1 hour. I had my personal stuffs on the cart too. It's really WTF, get more smaller carts for customers or don't block the aisle with useless items in the middle that won't sell. I had to put this bulky heavy cart somewhere else so I don't block other customers. Then you guys removed my cart? Seriously? read more

i would never give a bad review but i felt the need to today. the sushi chef is so sweet! but then i got to self checkout and i tried to use apple pay. the lady working there approached me and rudely said "we don't take apple pay!" and walked away, making me feel attacked. her name was maria. i've been in customer service since i was a baby so i understand we all have our off days but the approach she gave me was unacceptable. there are better ways to treat a customer. read more

I selected flowers to be put into a beautiful arrangement for a gift...was probably the worst arrangement ever! Compared to the in-store deli at Von's (Rancho Santa Fe Rd, La Costa) the roast beef sandwich while made of Boars Head meat, was fairly tasteless with a doughy, spongy bun, a very meager slice of cheese and almost green tomato. And it's a dollar more than the good bun, good meat, adequate cheese sandwich we routinely get at the Von's Deli. Won't be trying the Ralph's made-to-order sands again. read more

Went here today and was not impressed. They had no red onions except for 4 rotten ones and also they didn't have any sunflowers and I went to check out and the checker-Naima scanned my items and everything got shoved to the end of the belt and she just tossed all my items in bags without being gentle. Customer service is everything and once those items go across that scanner, those items should be treated right because they are no longer the stores, but the customers. read more

Front and service needs major overhaul just last night no carts available to clean or dirty no basket clean or dirty not to mention no wipes! Walked in and looked, to find the same. That's the floral associate she said walk to the other end I said no way call a manager young young man showed up and I noticed that arrived several minutes before and I speaking with employees Currently not working with patrons before he walked up only to say, "what do you expect?" Held my tongue asked if you were the manager why not answer but that he would bring a manager forward long drive it is I just grabbed the cart ask one of the cashiers for some sanitation wipes and went about my shopping. Not the first time I've had issues at the store short lines, yet plenty of cashiers... and, God forbid, if you ask an item unable to find is carried... Each time you just simply get an eye roll, even for some thing as simple as a stroganoff seasoning packet... never an offer for a box boy run and grab/double check item not available... read more

I purchased Disneyland passes at Ralph's and when I arrived at Disneyland they wouldn't accept them. Disneyland said Ralph's did not activate the cards. This took me 45min at Disneyland. Now I'm trying to return them and Ralph's is telling me they are non-refundable and were activated. DON'T BUY Disneyland tickets from Ralps!!! I'm out $800.00!!! read more
